Captain Sir Tom Moore, who became a symbol of resilience by raising tens of millions of pounds for the NHS, has died after testing positive for Covid-19. He was 100. (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News...)
His family said the last year of his life had been "nothing short of remarkable"; a time when he had managed to experience things he had only dreamed of.
The Queen, who knighted Sir Tom in a special ceremony in the summer, has sent a private message of condolence to his family.
And 10 Downing Street has lowered the flag to half mast in a sign of respect.

@EU Skipper I agree for instance Lewis Hamilton wanting 50 million a year plus 10% tv rights pays no tax as tax exile not picking on him personally but there's thousands like him who wouldn't miss a few million but they'd rather spend it on another house or car or plane they don't need come on a million quid is enough for anyone.A couple in Sheffield won 7 million they kept a million and gave the other away so there are folks like him

if everyone was that selfless than 1 percent of the population would own 99 percent of the money, think before you speak, the world cant have a millions or billions of selfless people, but the ones we can and do have are even better for being that selfless, RIP

It is well known that Sir Tom Moore was hospitalised a few days ago with pneumonia and died of old age and illness, God bless him. but day before his death, the NHS declared him a Covid-19 patient. How long will the NHS and its officials continue to lie that people have died because of Covid-19 ?

R I P Tom , how many people through their lives will be able to say they made a difference ?. This man made a difference twice, 1939--1945 and 2020--2021 . I will remember Tom for how he made a nation feel during dark times and made me feel proud we have had people like this who truly understand hardship and loss . The money he raised was just a small part of the inspiration that Tom gave to me . Thanks Tom , You have done your bit now rest mate . 👍❤

A hero may have passed into that dark night... But a legend was born...to light the path for the rest of us... “world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but can never forget what they did here. It is for us, the living, rather to be dedicated to the great task remaining before us-that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they here gave the last full measure of devotion …” ― Jeff Shaara

I took a look at how television reported Sir Tom's passing - which was very respectful - but I was amazed at just how crass and downright weird the comments were. Then I look at our coverage (BBC, ITV etc.) and all I see are comments which are wonderfully written and full of humanity. Despite my sadness at this great man's passing I am heartened and warmed by our reaction.

@notapieceofsushi4219

@@belkentens Good question. While the vaccine (at least the astra zeneca one) uses a protein that is imitating the structure of the covid virus to build up the immune response and is therefore a lot more harmless, it still puts a strain on the body and the immune system. This is the reason why sometimes your arm hurts after the injection, or you feel a bit weak for the days after the injection. While a simple cold at the same time is no big problem for healthy people, Captain Tom was battling a pneumonia (according to some sources) or at least a heavy lung infection at the time. Vaccinating him would have actually been a big health risk. But keep in mind that I am by no means a medical expert, so please do your own research:)
