I'd go as far as to say he is the only one of the cast that had a chance to actually experiment with Rob Zombie's creative vision RZ (probably?) had when making this-Spaulding is a horror character and could fly off the handle at any minute, but he has that humorous, almost winking quality to him, which Haig captured really well and thus stands out despite him being saddled with pathetic screentime. The rest of the characters you could just put in the middle of the typical slasher movie and be done with it, since they're so unremarkably written in this unremarkable movie that was supposedly meant to be a comedic tribute to the genre.

The story was basically sidelined in exchange for pure style and shock, which isn't enough to make a good movie. The audience has to know wtf is going on, or else they're just confused. Like those flashbacks(?) for example. What was with the black guy with all the signs? Or the old woman who said Dr. Satan "had his way with my person" or whatever? And she somehow survived and lived to tell, but then didn't? The revelation of Spaulding's relationship with the family seemed kind of forced as well, especially since he really didn't want the main characters to go there. It makes no sense.
