@@LordDiscord If you're "guiltier than a cat in a gold fish bowl" then it's in your best interests to just plead guilty and take the lighter sentence. Pleading innocent opens you up to receiving a harsher sentence if you lose, which is obviously a bad idea if you're very clearly in the wrong guilty and unlikely to win the case because of it.
@LordDiscord2 ай бұрын
@@Sweld549 That only really applies if they actually have concrete and indisputable evidence that you did it. Given the confidence of the captain and the fact that testimony of one person would have been enough to atone him of his crimes, means the court likely only had speculative evidence at best and was hoping for a confession. Also most plea deals are usually done behind closed doors unless the persons crimes are not that severe, given the juries and audiences reaction, tells mean any sentence that wasn't him being immediately executed before the audience would not have been acceptable, meaning his best case would to plead not guilty

This scene's animation is great but it's a really weird idea. The orb is supposed to be pure evil but it disrupts a false testimony paid for with bribe money by a clearly evil guy.
@molemanninethousand3 ай бұрын
In the original version of the story, Sternn's plan was always for Hanover to go berserk like that, only to stop attacking him when they got away from everyone else, i.e. the attack was staged to disrupt the trial and let him escape, and that was what he was really paying Hanover for; he also doesn't kill Hanover in that version. This version indeed made the scenario more confusingly ambiguous for the sake of shoehorning in the main villain of the movie.
@Sweld5492 ай бұрын
The angle wasn't the false testimony, it was the rampage disrupting the trial and allowing him to escape during the chaos. The bribe money he mentioned is the same amount he pays out in the last scene, which implies that was always the plan. Doesn't explain why he waits to vent the other guy out of an airlock until AFTER handing over the 35k though.
@fitzclaircharron35022 ай бұрын
@@Sweld549 So if the guy was gonna go berserk anyway, then the orb didn't matter, so why would they show us this entire thing? The orb is irrelevent here. Nah, the angle is he has a guy he bribed tell everyone he's a stand up guy. The orb disrupted the trial, and the captain distracted him with the money because he had nowhere else to run. It actually worked and the guy shrank. Otherwise why is the captain like "lost 'im"? Why does he look worried? It's just a weirdly written scene that shoulda had another draft is all.
@Sweld5492 ай бұрын
@@fitzclaircharron3502 Presumably because they wanted to fake-out the viewer and end on a twist, and didn't care about the fact it doesn't make much sense when you think about it for more than two seconds. Heavy Metal in general is just a bunch of loosely associated shorts more concerned with being raunchy than having a coherent framing plot. I wouldn't exactly hold the film to conventional standards, all things considered.

Why does anybody care what he has to say? He could have *not* suddenly mutated into a brute and stern still probably would have been run up the river.
@molemanninethousand2 ай бұрын
He *wanted* him to mutate and attack him like that; that *was* his plan to escape the trial. Fiste didn't really want to kill Sternn; the attack was staged. At least, that was what was clearly going on in the original comic; the way the movie incorporates the Loc-Nar here, portraying it as the source of Fiste's mutation, and having Sternn drop him into space at the end as if something actually went wrong according to his plan, which didn't happen in the comic, makes things confusingly ambiguous for this version.
