A quick note to anyone interested in the light bowgun. The mine is NOT a trip mine. It goes off when attacked. This can be triggered by both monster attacks AND hunter attacks, meaning you should be shooting the mine anytime the monster is standing on it. You can also lodge the mine into a monsters body using a certain wire if skill, meaning any attack on the monster is likely to trigger the mine until it wears off.

(Ex)Hammer main here! The main differences between blue guard and yellow guard is that the blue is generally better for hit and run due to it having faster attacks and yellow is better for when the monster is KO'd, or paralyzed due to it having a long combo at full charge while moving forward. Generally speaking Charge Mode: Strength (blue) has slightly longer charge times, forces you to move a bit more, and a bit more power but also more commitment/endlag and generally speaking fewer combo opportunities. Performing a charge switch from Strength will automatically put you into LV3 Standard, which will be amazing for some silkbinds or quick LV3 charges. The standard charge mode, on the other hand, has generally shorter charge times, a bit less damage and movement, but more combo opportunity - the spin attack ending with a golf swing, for example, if you get off the strongest swing, you can tap A to do a bonk that you can follow up into the Strength Charge LV3 without having to switch.

For SnS users: Forward+a is shield bash. Up to 3 hits that can stun. You can use it after any X combo. You can press x+a during or after any combo to do a round slash. It does good damage if done at the end of a combo and can aim it at your side to help you reposition yourself mid combo. Also, down+a while guarding or during a combo does a backstep into your charge attack, in which you can let it go after fully charge for a charge slash, which will send you into the air, X for air attack, A for Shield dunk. If you press X during the charge attack, you’ll do a series of attacks, in which you need to time your X presses for max damage. After a shield uppercut, A for round slash, X for sword thrust that’ll send you to the air if connected. You can do the same as in the charge slash, but only here you can press x+a for a downwards multi hit thrust.

Hunting Horn has a useful wirebug special move. If you time it right when a monster attacks, you can armor through the hit. Good for getting out of tricky situations AND getting damage in at the same time. You can even use it to get INTO tricky situations and usually come out on top, but it takes a bit of timing. It's pretty nice, though. It does some nice damage and let's you hit more aggressive enemies like Nargacuga and Diablos more reliably while they are enraged, which, monsters like Nargacuga and Diablos are pretty much ALWAYS enraged, until you beat their face in a lil bit.

The sword and shield also got pretty good upgrades. In worlds, the infinite light and heavy slash combos required you to move in the opposite direction to restart the combo. In Rise, after a X X A A combo you can press XA to do a round slash to restart the combo, allowing you to continue attacking in the same direction. The perfect rush in worlds required you to roll sideways to restart the combo. In Rise, simply tap A before the final stab to do a round slash, and you can immediately pull back the left stick and hold A to perform another charged slash into perfect rush.

Switch axe has a neat thing you can do, you can morph out of wildswing with a circular sweeping attack instead of the slam. A,..., ZR, ZR/X. The second ZR will put you into sword mode, but if you press X instead, you'll go back into axe attacks. You can press A just the once, or multiple times, as long as it starts the wild swing and not the fade slash. It's pretty useful for if you started to wildswing, but then the monster moves a bit, or if you don't have time to pull off the full slam combo. It's better than the pseudo-slam you do if you haven't swung enough in my opinion. Just don't do it near somebody else. It covers a pretty large area, and you move forward while spinning. You shouldn't wildswing right next to somebody normally anyway, but be extra careful with this.

@@josephspearman-oxx9404 Not sure about rise or world (mostly because I haven't played with anyone other than my friend) But it and horn have been the weakest weapons throughout the series. Gunlance does less damage in exchange for the shelling, which sounds good until you remember shelling does set damage, so its not that effective late game. Also it has the 2nd slowest movement speed a while unsheathed, next to greatsword which unlike gunlance, has more benefits when constantly sheathing. TL:DR You move slow and do low damage, Just remembered, in Rise speed can be patched with a skill you can unlock called Blast Dash. This is mostly based on OLD GEN information btw, as in before Monster Hunter World, I don't know how they've changed shelling for the new games.
@TreyDobe3 жыл бұрын
@@orange7153 Low damage what? On World I could dish put heavy damage in a span of a few seconds, what was even better was when you embed the monster with huge wyvern stake damn near doubling your shelling damage on that spot. For people want to try charge blade: everything changes once you get the switch skill, and then it basically becomes "try to stay alive while wielding axe all the time" (instead of charging the sword you can charge the axe making every swing have multiple hits when you hold the buttons and you don't need the powered up shield to do it but it goes away whenever you go out of axe mode also the axe can charge phials by itself and over a 1 minute period in the training area damage output was about 20-25% higher using the spinny axe instead of the glowy sword and yes this weapon is really not that hard)
@rositchi58892 жыл бұрын
I miss having access to both sides at the same time from World though. Not a huge fan of switch skills. Feels like they tried to nerf many or all weapons at the same time.
@yasgamer2 жыл бұрын
@@rositchi5889 To be honest, I barely touched MH since writing this comment. I recently came back to it and it does definitely feel nerfed. It's still my weapon of choice, because I prefer complex controls (also goes for other games). But damn it's so easy to achieve the same damage output using a more basic weapon like long sword. Even switch axe seems like it's gotten more love than CB. Maybe that's also because while useful, CB's silkbind attacks are kinda lame... Maybe I need to unlock axe hopper tho

Bow is the best melee weapon in the game. One of the switch abilities makes it so you can do an attack dodge during a combo. But dodging counts as a combo. The dash attack applies the coatings doing often 2-4 times the damage of shooting. So you can infinitely dash attack WITH whatever element coating you got. The coatings never deplete if you only melee. PLUS you never have to worry about losing sharpness. And you can still shoot winged monsters out of the sky. Bow is best weapon this game prove me wrong.

Watching footage of Monster Hunter without context, it looks like a generic action RPG. The game is incredibly in-depth and there's A LOT more going on than what the visuals will tell you. Most AAA games will make sure the visuals and interface is telling you the entire story, so that the game is easier to pick-up and play. Monster Hunter has evolved over the years to be more accesible (like the on-screen weapon actions in Worlds) and more expletive (like the damage numbers and monster status icons [top right]), but there's still a lot of nuance that doesn't translate well to footage, and you only get to experience playing it.

SnS has a few more toys that I consider vital. For starters, the charging x+a attack (or draw your weapon while moving) gives you about 5 seconds of flinch free, so utilizing it often helps a ton in multiplayer, and I believe both options after the backhop also get this armor. Speaking of which, holding back + A during a combo will make you hop back. If held you charge into an attack where you leap at them, do a rising attack, and can then do a falling attack with your sword with x or shield with a. If instead you release a and hit x instead you'll do the perfect rush combo, where you have to time the next x hit with when you turn red. It does a lot of damage, has a multiplier to do even more elemental/status damage, and is finishes with the scaling slash from the charge version. Also you can get into it by "parrying" an attack with zr+a. Using both are fairly important to a stress free multiplayer experience. I try to backhop often to keep myself from getting tripped, and either do perfect rush if I feel I can land the full combo, or the charge if I feel I cannot.

Your bread and butter combo changes depending on the Gunlance used. A weapon like Lagomberator (Lagombi weapon with Wide Shelling) only has two shots, so your bread and butter combo should be poke, boom, poke, boom and if you have time, quick reload at the end. For a weapon that has a lot of shots in it, like the Princess Panolpy (Rathian weapon with Normal Shelling), using the overhead swing (X+A) into the downward swing (X) then hit A to execute the Full Burst is your bread and butter combo. Keep in mind that with normal shelling, nothing is preventing you from using the poke, boom, poke, boom combo if you feel you can't execute the overhead swing combo safely. Wide Shelling generally shouldn't use the overhead swing combo, since poke, boom, poke, boom does the same amount of damage and is safer overall. You can check to see what type of shelling your Gunlance has by looking at it's stats. In simple terms, more shots means Full Burst does more damage. Also please dear god use your back/side step. It's a good repositioning tool, and you can evade monster attacks with it in a pinch. Sincerely: A Gunlance main since Freedom Unite

For lance rather than a>a>a>hop a>a>a>zr+a quickly is better since it doesnt move you and keeps you in position to continue the combo. Hopping cam and up messing your positioning so not the best to do, also takes more time.

The A button attack for dual blades is a distance closer move, good for when the enemy keeps backing away. In demon mode, you go twice as far (attacking the entire time). Something to keep in mind; the X+A combo ONLY works in demon mode and arc demon mode (though it lasts longer in demon mode). DO NOT SPAM THIS MOVE! It locks you in place for an extended amount of time, leaving you open for attacks.

A tip for anyone using Switch Axe: If the monster isn’t knocked down or tired and moving around, try to get into the Amped state using Wild Swing when using your Elemental Discharge. This way, you’ll attach yourself to the monster and won’t risk missing the attack. If a monster is down, however, just go for a normal Elemental Discharge, as the extra time spent trying to get into the Amped state might give the monster enough time to get up and attack or run away.
