I still remember the first time I had a team of randoms and we pulled a perfect combo. It was Teostra, had a Hunting Horn giving us all buffs, Dual Blade guy did that beyblade spin down his spine, cut off the tail. Longsword started a combo which launched me and my insect glaive into the air, I had all three buffs on and did the spinning drop attack at the same time the longsword finished his combo for an absolutely beautiful kill. The point of all the weapons being in game hit me right about then.

He never really said it in the video but the light bowgun and heavy bowgun are really different. Light is made for a mostly support role, with its quick shots you can constantly heal/shield/damage boost allies or poison/paralyze/sleep/track the monster. It doesnt do much damage but thats because its mostly a support weapon. Heavy is a high damage weapon, (not only when your wryvern is up!) if you constantly use bullets effective against the monster type you WILL be one of the highest dps in your team, the bullets are slow so you cant prioritize supporting the team and sleep/paralyze bullets are kind of a waste due to your shot speed) but its high damage from range more then makes up for it. Also heavy bowgun in this game can equip a shield apparently so your not just a sitting target...

@javierrivera25397 жыл бұрын
Fred Mendenhall . As someone who has used all 14 weapons. 12 weapons from freedom series to 3u and 14 from 4u- generations, the info for these weapons are a little first of all bias and second of all the actual conditions for these weapons weren’t even discussed properly.basically the info you got out of this video is what you’ll get out of just watching the trailer and that’s extremely misleading. He talks about the weapons on a scale of which weapon type does more damage and if you played mh before information like that is extremely misleading. Basically if that chart was real every weapon would have the exact line going straight across because every weapon type is balanced out. Because every weapon type has a set motion value due to the size of each weapon some types have higher dps than others so their values may be smaller. If you want to know what type of weapon is good for you don’t look at the stats look at what it can do and find the techniques in them I suggest looking at gaijin hunters videos on the 14 weapons. He has covered actual tutorials on each weapon on different each game release
@fredmendenhall117 жыл бұрын
Actually that's exactly what I was using this video for. I am completely new to the series. I don't understand how the move sets and playstyle works with the weapons and I was curious about some of the way these move sets work and how they might have a similar style gameplay or move-set wise to a game that is outside the MH series that I might have a bit more experience with. Using that information helped me to look at two different weapons that I was thinking I might use in this game. The sword and shield because its the Noob friendly weapon and then I was looking at something maybe for Range...and I settled on the bow. After starting the game last night and trying a number of different weapons...the video was correct in helping me determine that my two play types are going to revolve around these weapons at first. I really enjoined the little bit I got to play last night before going to bed and I am looking forward to having the whole weekend with it after I get off work today.

Yes and no. I'm a hammer main veteran (been since mh3u) and if I could explain what the hammer's playstyle is, it's like baby's first greatsword. Both require a lot of knowledge of the monster and the ability to read that information to maximize the damage potential, but the hammer is a lot easier and forgiving (in some aspects) for that imo. But being able to read the monster and punishing it with a massive blow to the skull is oh so satisfying. 10/10 would bang again lmao.

I snorted at the support weapon comment. Granted when looking at it the HH is the most supportive weapon because of the songs. I love playing supports and I love HH but the dmg is not to be underestimated. Its an all around great weapon for teamplay and criminally underplayed, being the least played weapon in the entire game.

Okay... I use both Great Sword and Hunting Horn. While playing with the Horn I also feel that this weapon has a reaaaally high potential damage, however I like to play Horn more when in groups than while playing solo. With the GS, however, I only play solo. Because I really love to kill and humiliate the monster. kkkkk

I mained insect glaive all throughout mh4, I'm really happy with the changes they made because insect glaive for anything before highrank was almost unusable because of the kinsect evolve system. The insect glaive is focused all of the kinsect so if your struggling with the IG then try changing up your kinsect and see if you want a faster one, stronger one, longer range one, etc.

SnS isn't too bad for that either. The whole "Up ledges/off ledges" trick is very good in a lot of situations, and the new charging jump attack is consistently useful as well.

Other than that this video is hella awesome! I sent this to some newbie friends who are joining me later this week.

Thank you thank you thank you! This breakdown is awesome, I am brand new to this series I bought it for my Xbox One X on Friday. I started out with the charge blade and yeah like you said in the video that was a rookie mistake (attacks were bouncing off like you said lol). I switched to the sword and shield which was great and now I’m trying to perfect the insect glaive (love that weapon). I was a little worried at first in the beginning but 14 game hours later and I can already tell I’m being sucked into this game. It’s challenging yet rewarding and there’s such a wide variety of options that it seemingly never gets old. I will recommend this video for all new players and the game to every person I know!

Aaron Black I disagree. The flow of the video made no sense. It hopped around from one weapon to the next without any meaning. For example, he could've presented ranged weapons one after another, higher skill weapons presented at the end, or put support weapons together. Good info in the video, but poor organization.

spewaysealat I see your point, and I agree that those elements of organization could have made this even better. However I feel that these minor tweaks are unworthy of completely overshadowing the positive elements of the information presented in the video.

I am addicted to 3 weapons that are pretty different to each other. 1. Great sword - Just love the feel of this weapon, the damage, the force, and the fact you can stagger the monster with just one hit makes it feel amazing to me. I've also been a big fan of that, slow methodical playstyle. Being able to predict every move of your opponent and countering them with such heavy blows makes me love it even more. 2. Dual Blades - I've always liked of being the speed demon in the group (which some of you may find weird since I'm also in love with the slow GS). Being able to be highly aggressive, always in the front of the pack, dodging just in the nick of time and countering it accordingly thanks to the insane mobility this weapon offers makes it another favourite. 3. Bow - When it comes to ranged gameplay, I've always been the "in your face" type of guy when it comes to shooters, so naturally the bow is a great fit for me. There's also something so satisfying about finding the perfect spacing so the enemy's attacks land just in front of you, it just feels amazing to find that sweet spot.

For everyone picking this video apart for "misinformation", please realize that some people like myself have been playing some iteration of Monster Hunter for over a decade. While thats plenty of time to experiment and discover the MYRIAD of nuance, variation, and potential of these weapons, I believe this is a good starting point that will steer new players in a direction to which they will figure those things out for themselves. This is not the end all, be all weapon guide. Remember that learning and progressing your own abilities in this franchise is part of its appeal.

Found the charge blade to be the best beginner weapon; the mechanic of charging the vials can be confusing at first, but a bit of time on the training grounds will be a good way to find out how that works, plus the charge blade has many similarities to other weapons which allows for an easier flow into other weapons. The charge blade is easy to use, but hard to master, and it's such a rewarding weapon to use...

It's somewhat funny how you reference the charge blade as a beginner's trap weapon here, since in my first experience playing monster hunter 4 ultimate, that blade was my go to and my bread and butter. Feeling the diversity and separate yet connected playstyles of the transforming weapon was like giving a surprise to a little kid and seeing their eyes light up and what it could possibly be. In a way, it also holds some of the most potential of most weapons in the monster hunter series, alongside the switch axe. But unlike the axe, it also gives versatility in that playstyle, allowing you to play it safe and block attacks to charge up your blade, and unleashing it at just the right moment. It was perfect as a beginner to see the rewards reaped from perfect timing 😍
