I have just started to use manual settings on the CGO3+ and have read to try and keep SS a multiple of 2 times FPS, and to use ND filters. To get tp this ratio to prevent jitteriness in movies. Your SS especially greater than . 1/60th. Seem they would. Be subject to to jitteriness. By the way the videos are terrific!
@CAPTAINDRONE7988 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The jitter that you see here is thanks to KZbin. My videos are rendered in 4K and then compressed so that they can be uploaded to KZbin in under 20 minutes. This means the bitrate is reduced so data is gone. Then KZbin converts the video into a streaming format which again reduces the quality further and tossing out more data. This means some scenes are lossing frames, thus you get jitter. Reference the Shutter Speed vs Frame Rate issue.... A long time ago in the world of DJI Phantom drones, people with some photography knowledge would talk about the Shutter Speed vs Frame Rate and since then, everyone has gone a bit crazy believing that is how you get good video, which is very far from the truth. The problem is that the Shutter Speed vs Frame Rate began in the days of film (not digital). So today, everyone is rushing out to buy ND filters and is trying their best to get a low shutter speed on a sunny day without much success. If you wish to create "motion blur" then you need to set your Shutter Speed to twice your Frame Rate, which requires an ND 16 filter on most sunny days. The only benefit from this is that objects moving past the camera frame will appear blurred. If you track a moving object in the center of the fram then it will appear clear, while the ground around will appear blurred. Unfortunately today, too many people think ND filters are the way to go. They have a purpose but must be used only when the scene your shooting requires it.

what cameras settings would you recommend for sunset and sunrise photos, i strictly use this drone for photography only
@CAPTAINDRONE7986 жыл бұрын
Gorgeous mode, WB at SUNRISE/SUNSET, and ensure you use manual exposure.... face the sun and then manually set the exposure to a lower setting (slow down the shutter speed until everything looks magical).
@brother_Tennessee6 жыл бұрын
CAPTAIN DRONE well I meant settings would you use in number, such as iso 400 and exposure settings and so forth, because in the video your settings for daytime and afternoon really worked
@CAPTAINDRONE7986 жыл бұрын
ISO 100 to 400 range depending on how much noise you want in the image surrounding the sun/sky. Unless I do it myself for any given sunset, I really can't give you exact numbers. I can say that all sunset photos will always look good even if the camera is on auto.

How can you make your footage look so good without ND filters. I was pretty sure you'd get Twitchy footage if you shot without a filter at high shutter speed. Am I off base?
@CAPTAINDRONE7987 жыл бұрын
ND filters do not make your footage look better. I hear people say that but I'm not sure where that came from. An ND filter is just a filter, it filters light. You see most cameras on drones have a fixed aperture so the only way to control light is with shutter speed. On bright sunny days when flying in the direction of the sun, you may get weird strobe effects happening in your film because the shutter speed is very fast and capturing the light going through the props. To slow this down you use an ND Filter, or tilt your camera more downward. Some people use an ND 32 filter to bring the shutter speed to twice the frame rate. This will make any movement look blurred which you either love or hate. The only filter that will improve your video on a bright sunny day, in all situations, is a Polorized Filter. Colors will be brighter with such a filter and blacks will stand out nicely.

Hi Captain Drone Love your work! Keep it up. I thought you might be on to a problem that I was having but alas no joy. The problem I am having is in the 360° pan. When I pan, camera off, smooth as a babies bum, when I do the same with the camera on it gets the jitters at certain points. I tried your idea of locking wb, no joy, thinking it might be trying to auto adjust to the light changes. Changed from 4096x2160F25, 4096x2160F24 and 3840x2160F30. The jittering on the monitor screen is the same as what is recorded. Micro Card is a Scandisk EXtreme Pro 64G 3. Just thought you may have come upon this problem. John Richardson
@CAPTAINDRONE7988 жыл бұрын
My only guess is that it is your computer perhaps... processor & graphic card having difficult with the codec. Jitters on the screen of the ST16 is usually an issue with poor reception, or in the case of a previous Firmware update the problem was the Firmware (it caused jitters in the ST16 screen when in picture mode. Video mode worked fine though).
@johnrichardson92638 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that Cptn, I will start with he card first and see how that goes, I would not think poor reception would have been an issue as I was about 30m away and at 20m altitude, everything fully charged. Firmware V03.01.b27 H V3.01 Gym 1.25 Auto 1.30 Cam 3.2.26 as far as I can tell that is the latest. I do appretiate your input and very nice vedeos.

Why don't you use ND filters
@CAPTAINDRONE7988 жыл бұрын
ND Filters are great for when you wish to introduce motion blur. They do not improve your image. So if you have no requirement to cause motion blur (which can make your overall image look less sharp) then there is no need for them. You see most drone cameras have a fixed aperture so you can't open or close it to allow more or less light into the camera. For this reason the shutter on a drone camera is very fast on bright days. A fast shutter speed results in a sharp image with lots of detail... sometimes too much. You can't slow down the shutter speed unless you first reduce the amount of light coming in, so with ND filters you can do that. For some reason people think a drone camera will give Hollywood style cinema. Hollywood movies have very few frames per second and plenty of motion blur. With ND filters you can try and force this, but honestly it's a camera on a drone with a fixed aperture and no depth of field, so it's difficult to accomplish much. All of the above to say I only use ND filters if I wish to introduce motion blur (reduce camera flicker & smooth out images).
@kronjaa8 жыл бұрын
Well, having shutter speed at such high values will give you shitty video experience in many cases (not always). Simplest rule - recording video you want to keep shutter speed roughly 1/2xFPS (say, if you are shooting 1080p60 then you might want to have shutter speed somewhere around 1/100-1/150, or if it's 25FPS then 1/50). It's not something that is specific to Typhoon or drones, it's just rule of thumb for videomakers - little read here, for example: www.red.com/learn/red-101/shutter-angle-tutorial The difference may not be obvious when you are filming slow and relaxed objects like in your example videos, but as soon as you're getting to something more speedy you will immediately see the difference. For example, if you're tracking car or bicycle and focusing on that one fast moving object it will stay sharp all the time (because it is not moving within the frame), while background will be a bit (or not "a bit", depending on your speed) blurred, giving that great "speed" look. If you would use high shutter speed background would also stay sharp and that will give you experience far from enjoyable (the feeling would be as if playback is a bit stuttering).. So the way to keep your shutter speed low? ND filters. It's used on cheap, expensive, good and bad cameras exactly for the reason above - to keep shutter speed around desired values.
@CAPTAINDRONE7988 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting! Wow, two shutter speed/ND filter comments on this video already... and I expect more to come. The jitter in the video you see is due to KZbin compression and not a shutter speed issue. At my end the video is butter smooth. So if the original video is smooth, then it has to be a compressing issue. I film in 4K & produce a completed video in 4K (massive size file when it's over 5 minutes in length). Then upload to KZbin which normally takes 10 minutes per 1 Gig of data. However, I compress the file at my end into a streaming format which massively reduces the bit rate. Whenever you compress a file your tossing away data. Then upload it to KZbin, and then KZbin again will compress it removing more data, into a super tiny file ready for streaming. Watch the video again... some parts are smooth and others have a touch of a frame or two missing now and then. So many people get a bit confused on the Shutter Speed vs Frame Rate issue believing that it equals great video (I provided a bit of an explanation to another comment on this topic), that I may just have to do a future video on it to debunk the myths. ND filters have a purpose, but need to be used only when the scene you're shooting calls for it.
@kronjaa8 жыл бұрын
Well I explicitly wrote "difference may not be obvious when you are filming slow and relaxed objects like in your example videos". And I brought very specific example, when high shutter speed is "bad for ya". But saying that as a rule of thumb high shutter speed is "okay" is just wrong. If you want your footage to look more natural - follow some general rules, that's not the place you necessarily have to "invent" anything. I learned through my own mistakes: vimeo.com/104499233 - opening shot (flight over tree) was filmed using wrong shutter speed (1/125 at 25fps) and even after professional post-production it looks crappy to me.
@CAPTAINDRONE7988 жыл бұрын
On my end your video looked fine (opening shot). Great video by the way!

Yes please! I was going to post a question, asking you to produce a video on this very subject. I am a long-time still photographer, and have dabbled in video, but never had a camera which allowed frame rates to be changed. Many reviewers throw out these numbers of rate/shutter speed, with no explanation. Your style of explaining would help a lot of us, I am sure!
