I have several drones including the Air 2s. There is something about flying my Phantom 4 pro that keeps me coming back to it. Sort of like driving an old Corvette. It is an iconic drone that remains quite capable even by todays standards. I would love to see a Phantom 5. Thanks for the great video!

Thank you so much for the history lesson!! An old friend of mine got me into drones back in 2016/2017 and he had a Phantom 4 Pro and I was amazed by it… my very first drone was a Phantom 3 Gold but later I got the Mavic Pro Platinum I would tell him…. “The Mavic is the future for DJI, ill be surprised if they ever make another Phantom” and we would go back and forth on it him loving his Phantom and me Loving my Mavic…it seems my vision was right and even now in late 2023 there is not a Phantom 5. But I still fly my Mavic Pro Platinum and DJI Spark he bought for me all those years ago. If a Phantom 5 ever comes to light he will never see one, so a tribute and a Thanks to you Michael E K. May you rest in peace.

Still flying my Phantom 3 Pro. It was a gamechanger, the whole package in one box. Now flying it over the sea several times a week. Got 2.5miles at max range. I think there's room in the market for a p5. Have utility camera options. Base model with a 4k 60fps camera. Options for a 4/3rds camera and even a LIDAR/IR Camera. Ps: give me your p4 Pro 😃

I bought two different off brand drones to practice with as I was a beginner years ago and although I bought one years after the other, neither one worked as well at all… especially the second drone which resembled a Maverick, the first one resembled the Phantom. Needless to say I’m still a beginner but I hope that all changes for me in 2024 as I plan on buying a good used drone and searching KZbin to learn more. O Captain! My Captain! This was an super rundown. My first drone was a Phantom 2 Vision+ and I used it to launch my mapping business. I later transitioned to the 3 and 4 models as they came out and finally to the P4 RTK which I still use today as it is simply reliable. I still have my P4P V2 as I often use it with the Goggles RE for site inspections and exploring. While I have a wide variety of drones, I still come back to the Phantom because of its reliabilty and its simply a great bird to fly. Stay Awesome!

Sir, I am just starting to become interested in getting a drone. My brother got the Phantom 4 when it came out, so this video caught my attention. I really enjoyed your video. It was very informative. Thanks for sharing. This got me thinking about a really cool drone idea. Maybe it could be for the mythical Phantom 5 pro. Let's keep your features for the non pro version. It could have a wireless charging system, with a small stripped down endurance tanker or wingman drone that Flys out first to the halfway point and you could land it or hover. Then send the main drone. This wingman would have a small lightweight camera and minimal features but a huge battery and a wireless charger for the main drone and it would act as a repeater. It could extend flight distance greatly and recharge both to and from trips at the halfway point.

Hi Steve, great video as always, I had a P4P in 2017 and used it for the odd job and for fun however by last year it developed a fault and would give me warning about out of range and it was only 50 metres away so I bought a brand new P4P 2.0 from DJI, I researched the Mavic 2 Pro at the time but for the small jobs I do its all about the camera so I stayed with the Phantom, It was also handy to as I had heaps of batteries, ND filters and other accessories from my first drone to re-use.

One of the interesting things that was available for the latter Pro models was the ability to record in RAW mode, which the cinematographers would like a lot. Great history lesson! Always wanted a Phantom, but when I did finally dip my toes into the hobby, I went straight into FPV and racing mini quads. Sometimes I still wonder how cool it would have been to fly a Phantom....

When did the rtk come out was it after 2018? Hmm yeah it was late 2018, so it's only like 5-6 years old right now, I would have thought older.

This is a great video I really appreciate it. I really miss my phantom three Pro and I know that the drones today have a much higher level of technology but man at the time that drone just did everything I needed it to do. The range was incredible for me. Now I will say I didn’t have duel IMUs and other redundancy and I did have a fly away in couple of times with my Mavic pro I got it back, but the funny thing is today we don’t ever hear about flyaways. KZbin used to be full of videos with drones flying away you never hear about it anymore and that’s probably because of the redundancy they have in the hardware.

My very first drone was a cheapie Parrot ... that crashed after about three flights ... as I did not know what I was doing. It was fragile and unrepairable. I waited a year and got a Phantom 2 Standard. About three months into using this model, it flew away over a bog area never to be seen again. I waited another year ... the technology was obviously a "work-in-progress." Somewhere in there I doubled down and bought a Phantom 3 and the rest is history. I've had a Mavic. Then moved to Autel to avoid DJI's nanny geofencing, then moved to a Skydio 2 and recently added a Skydio 2+ to the "fleet." I have had a Part 107 certificate since 2019. But, it was the Phantom 2 where I learned the basics of drone piloting and got totally enthused with this possibilities this added to my photography.

Hi Steve I think a lot of us learnt to fly on a phantom, I actually only sold my phantom 3 pro around six months ago from lack of use due to the size of it.

Good video Steve. Good history of the Phantom. But why would anyone want a drone nowadays, that doesn't fold up? Just too big to lug around. In some ways, the Mavic 3 is the Phantom 5. Just a slightly different package. I have no trouble understanding why there's no phantom 5.

Great video Steve. It was fascinating to see the progression of drone consumer/prosumer technology over just 10 years building & culminating to what we have today with my Air2S & Mavic 3 Pro. I wish I could improve at the same rate ha ha.

I absolutely love this video! It was so satisfying to hear about the phantom's history. Makes me want to fix my 3 standard that I smashed against a tree in 2018. It's been collecting dust ever since. Might be cheaper to just buy another at this point.

Alway's enjoyed my Captain video's. Thank you for being a bright light in this hobby. In my opinion your unbiased reviews are priceless. I have some family and friends getting interested in the fpv hobby. I'm super excited to possibly have someone to fly with. Dji fpv drone is what I'm thinking about starting them on after they master the mavic mini. Do you think it would be a better idea to forgo the dji products and grab a couple rtf whoops? I hear people say camera drones to fpv is a confusing transition. What's the captains thoughts on this?

If you are currently in the camera drone hobby then jumping to the FPV hobby is like learning to drive blindfolded on the opposite side of the road. Essentially you have to retrain your brain which has become lazy. Starting with flight sims and ready to fly kits is a good idea.
