Steve just mount a gopro on the end of a length of PVC pipe and scan the bottom without kicking up any silt. If you have an underwater light you could mount that as well.

I found it quite easy and quick to learn to control. Since our rivers are full of tannins and organics, the light is a necessity. The speeds and sensitivities were a bit too fast ( particularly descending ) to find a sweet spot high enough to avoid so much dirt and slow enough moving fwd to have the churn behind us. Tethering is a requirement I think for 2 reasons. 1) you can't fire wifi or other rc signals through water and 2) the drone is invisible below 5 feet or so ( in our case). Very easy to have it drift in currents or to lose situational awareness. Unlike a GPS drone it does not hover in place if you let go of the sticks. Fun trying it. No luck with errant glasses though....

Probably would be better with a camera on the underside so it can hover higher without creating turbulence on the bottom, a better chance of searching for objects below it

To be fair, we should have used the auto tilt and auto depth functions rather than hand flying it. Those features plus us moving forward would have changed the game..... and yes I'm planning to get the Captain back to the club

@@LISTEDGames There are cheaper ones, but with underwater drones, seemingly more that flayers, you lose important functionality, 4 motors in the bare min to function well and the lights are even weaker as you scale down price.

looks like the drone is massively buoyant and blasts a lot of water around when moving. makes it unisable wherever sediment is around. adding a bit of weight might help, if the power on the props can be dimmed. However, if its manoevring by mere pulses of full throttle, this thing is more of a mudblaster than of a drone.

The motors are proportional to stick deflection so it's more a case of user experience than drone itself:). Given teh drone for alonger time to play I would have done passes at a higher level rather than trying to drop and spin. This would allow us to see the ground in slices and had the disrupted matter behind us. Of course, we then would have have to somehow mark what we found.

@@nelsonprivateer7128 usually helps to place a long stick or chain on the bottom, check along that line & then move it by half a meter and then check again. only way to do it when diving in low viz water - recently tried getting a mobile phone back from 3m in a yacht port but had to give up due to a mere 30cm visibility…

It is a cool little drone, but its lights are weak, if you want to do down deep. With my new HDS Carbon 9 there are some really odd things on my downscan I would love to go explore, but with a stained lake I would nee probably 3k lumens per light to see at that depth (60ft).

It helps if you don't go all the way to the bottom and stir everything up the very first time. You should say about 2 to 3 ft off the bottom at a 45° angle

I never watched any underwater drones rov’s videos before this review. Just on tv. But this could be a lot of fun in the ocean. I noticed they have a newer model with EIS that should help a lot but they got to do something with that camera. Overall very nice review. Thanks Captain

Does the camera pan/tilt? If it did more like a drone and even one more LED right at the bottom. I can almost guarantee those glasses would of been seen. Great work Bud. Was in BC for 2 weeks. I don't like not succeeding so I've been scheming how to find those glasses (no they weren't mine.....I've sailed long enough to know the probability of being dropped is directly related to what I paid for something). So my revised plan will be to do passes at 2 meters depth without stopping to "hover" in place (which kicks up the dirt in a 360 donut). With this we'll have a slice and heading but not a distance from the dock. Then I'd rig up a bottom trawler rig with some weighted plastic water pipe, fine netting and a couple floats and drag the strip with the drone. Yeah.... I like solving problems as a hobby! :)

Not really. You'd have to really jam your finger up into the motor housing for something like that, and the motors would probably stop.

It was an iPhone 11. It worked great at my house so I think the drone was connecting to the phone through my home wifi and things got messed up.

If you snag the cable on something like a rock or tree stump, you normally can move around to free it. Unfortunately there is no technology available to consumers to send RC signals through water to an underwater drone. All require a teather her cable.

You are very late to the party… When this was filmed (long ago) the app had issues. The company then updated the apps for Android and IOS and all worked great. This is an old product and it now gets used daily in the Pacific Ocean by my brother-in-law.
