This design, originally conceived by Josh Bixler and marketed by Hobby Kıng, has morphed into other brands and/or names. The Bixler 1.0, which is still manufactured and marketed along with the newer and larger 2.0, is what I successfully trained & learned on. Great alrcraft ! Added note: l always flew my Bixler 1.0 with a 3S 2200mAh LiPo battery and nothing less than that. ... So I was surprised when you showed that 2S LiPo. Never heard that this aircraft uses a 2S battery.

Swap esc to anything BUT original & use 3s-1500. Minwax the bottom of the fuselage, & NO more hand tosses! Not only will it land on grass, it will also leave the grass too! (I had a couple.🤷♂️😁)

I dipped my feet into RC planes with a Rage RC Tempest 600, which is basically a scaled down version of this. No ailerons, only rudder, but at least it is under 250g so I can fly it at my local park inside a control zone. Glides wonderfully and the gyro lets a small aircraft fly on windy days which makes for fun reverse gliding in the wind and it's nearly indestructable because it's so light and a pusher. These glider types are really fun and relaxing.
@theoztreecrasher26477 ай бұрын
The Rage RC Tempest 600 is a rebrand of the Volantex V761-2 Ranger 600. There is a new version of the Volantex Ranger 600 out now that had been upgraded to 4-channel with ailerons. All the Volantex V761 series planes are great little sub-250gms toys.

The wing profile is beautiful. I'd love to have the same on a full-size plane when learning. My only criticism of most belly-landers is the lack of reinforcement for the polystyrene at the belly. Not all grasses are soft. A simple 3 or 4 mil plastic tape along the bottom would vastly improve longevity.
@CAPTAINDRONE7987 ай бұрын
I put a couple strips of fiberglass tape on my belly land planes & the planes remain in like new condition for many years.

Great video Steve, it reminds me alot of the aeroscout but without wheels. The aeroscout is very floaty aswell. Thanks to your videos I have started to learn rc planes, so far I have the umx twin otter, the umx timber evolution, the aeroscout 1.1 and my most recent purchase the eflite cirrus sr22t (the red one) I'm still using the spektrum dxs transmitter that came with the scout for all the planes. I would love some. Advice on an upgrade, liking the radio master tx16s for its multi protocol, not sure about the spektrum dx8, seems very expensive for not as many features. Keep up the great work captain 👍👍👍
@CAPTAINDRONE7987 ай бұрын
For RC Planes I stick with Spektrum, only because I can setup a radio and bind a receiver in seconds with such a radio, so I’ve stuck with it.
@theoztreecrasher26477 ай бұрын
Your choice of radio system will depend on your own circumstances. Us older folks generally like to stick with what we know regardless of the cost. There is no doubt that Spektrum/E-flite make their products to operate seamlessly and have a good support network. But as the consumer you pay a greatly inflated price for a proprietary system that is designed to grab you by the short and curlies and keep you in their financial clutches. As you say the Open-source Radiomaster TX16S is a far more capable unit at a way better bang-for-buck ratio. You just have to decide if you want to learn how to use it to set-up and fly both your Spektrum planes and a whole raft of other equally competent (but WAY cheaper) brands. Your Avatar suggests that you should be young enough to not be stuck in a hole like us. As an aside the Aeroscout you mention is another good beginner's pusher type plane (like this unit and other Bixler-type planes) but note that it is just a re-branded Chinese-made E-sky EYAS (Eagles) with an added Spektrum receiver.

Looks like smaller version of my Bixler 2 . I like a slow plane. When building my Bixler I way over powered it so takes off so far away before you gather your orientation and it changes direction too easily
@cyberherbalist7 ай бұрын
Wow, this is exciting! I have no interest in RC plane flying (I'm a quadcopter guy), but I love watching you fly this plane and seeing what it can do! On the other hand, I wonder if one could stick a decent camera on it in order to get some good footage? Eh, probably not. I checked the specs online and they do not say anything about transmission range -- how far away can one fly and still be able to control the aircraft?
@CAPTAINDRONE7987 ай бұрын
Range is always an unobstructed mile with these remotes/receivers. But honestly, 99% of pilots always keep planes in visual line of sight.
@cyberherbalist7 ай бұрын
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Well, without a camera that makes perfect sense. What I was worried about was how if could run out of range while still being in sight! My very first drone, a stock Hubsan H501S, had a fairly short range, and could go out of range while still in VLOS. Until I replaced its antennas, and then it could fly about 1.5km away from me.

This is about the same size as my Conscendo which I really like. But it doesn't come with a transmitter and it has a front propeller which isn't quite so noisy.

Could you put telemetry in this? I would like a vario at least. Although it might be too heavy for that activity. Probably would need a completely different setup inside and out.

Is that a full range radio system? The park flyers have very limited range I flew r/c planes for 14 years and when I was teaching my grandson to fly as soon as he got it almost to the end of the park and starting to turn it was out of range. I took the transmitter a ran toward the plane, I never gained control and watched it hit the ground. They are good trainers but not with limited range radios.
@olabergvall31547 ай бұрын
Nice! Do you happen to know the transmission range? Thinking as an FPV plattform. The website doesn't specify, nor does the user manual.

Hello Steve. Great video. You are very good at explaining everything. The loud sound is because the propeller sits so close to the trailing edge of the wing. This will be like the sirens they used during World War II. as they swung around. the faster the louder the sound. If you could move the engine a few cm further back, the sound would be better.
