My first gliders were the Gentle Lady and QB1400. The Lady was such a pleasure. The thermals in summertime around Johannesburg meant loooong flights. On more than one occasion, a friend walked past and mentioned 'check your radio batteries '. Luckily, the Futaba radios had excellent battery usage. The good old days of having to build before flying.

Thats how I started , my first glider was a wonderer it came as a box of balsa wood after a few weeks of building on plans and installation of a basic two channel radio and a 049 cox engine it was ready to fly.

How I learnt back when 4 channels was about it, a glider can't remember which, a long gentle hill and away we go. No instructors, no buddy box, no SAFE. Dropped out for a few years and when I joined the local club, "You taught yourself to fly?". Will also test fly my own whereas most will ask the club "expert" to test it.

Gliders tend to be trainers, or lower performance models. Sailplanes then to be higher performance models with better lift to drag ratios (and typically use more advanced materials). Good comparison is sports-car vs mini-van. Both are vehicles, one just more preferred by seasoned drivers. Gliders is appropriate in this case. Nice demos. BTW: sailplane is one word. (title, desc is correct)
@CAPTAINDRONE7986 ай бұрын
I believe you may be the first human to actually have placed gliders and sailplanes in categories. The Conscendo line are PERFORMANCE planes (super fast & highly 3D)
@AerialWaviator6 ай бұрын
If want to get technical, these are motor-gliders. Sailplanes don't have motors. Performance really depends on context. These gliders are not likely to place high in a FAI soaring event. However they likely would out preform any planes at a typical RC field.

@@AerialWaviator Can't agree, try rolling say you average plane and then a glider, an Immelmann etc.

Hi Steve, question please: in the last few months didn't you review a hard case for the DJI Mini 4 Pro? I finally bought that drone and would like to find the hard case you reviewed for it. Thanks
@CAPTAINDRONE7986 ай бұрын
Nope, no hard case reviews for the DJI Mini 4 Pro. You probably see me with a hard case as I have a hard case for pretty much every DJI drone. For the MINI drones, I just make my own hard case by usually repurposing a small hard case that was designed for something else or buying an AMAZON BASICS hard case and cutting out the foam to my desired liking.

Fly in wind, yeh righto what do you call wind? I'll stick with my balsa models based on 80s type pattern planes, reasonable wing loading, symmetrical airfoils that can cut through the wind. And yes, I do have two foam gliders for those lazy hazy summer days.

My experience with Amazon, prices typically higher than over the counter or online elsewhere. I'm in Oz and retail stores $415/450, not available on Amazon here.

Gliders are fab, but to days foamies are day light robbery, as they are so fragile and cost a mint for spares, my old Balsa ,s are still flying and some ae 30 years old now, , good flying

The bonus with FOAMIES is that they are so easily reparable compared to balsa
