I owned the Street RS and upgraded to the Speed RS. You're 100% correct that the street had this just mindless zip around with no effort. The Speed took some getting used to. Once I got more comfortable with the weight and that little intent you have to give it, I'm the happiest person in the world when I'm on it. I've had mine for a little over a year and I'm shocked I haven't gotten into any trouble. It just begs you to ride like an ass. Haha.

Great review of the RS mine is the older, 16 reg S which I love. I replaced its twin cans with a low level GPR carbon single end can which vastly improves upon the stock exhaust note. It has more burble, pops and crackle-age and a very nice tone. While it is supposed to add an extra 1-2 bhp but more importantly it has saved 15kg as well as reducing its centre of gravity, making it more flick-able as well as more aurally pleasing. Get one!

I test rode the Speed Triple with quick shifter - very nice, and the QS was as good as that on my ‘17 s1000r. The Speed remains on my very short list for upgrade of the s1000r - short list is a newer s1000r, ST1050RS and KTM SD1290. Very hard to chose. If it came down to sound, and that is an important issue, the ST has that so very nice and angry triple whine across the range, the s1000r sounds like a tractor at idle but sublime when it has its legs stretched, and the SD just sounds mean. Thanks for the real world review
@graemearmstead92375 жыл бұрын
My son has a Superduke and we were surprised to find out that in roll on acceleration at highway speeds it's slower than my '16 S1000r.
@brianglendenning16325 жыл бұрын
The SD feels quicker because it is, dare I say, more rambunctious 😁 than the s1000r. I went for an extended test ride on a V4S, with full no cat Termi system, and while it was possibly the coolest sounding machine I have ridden and felt a lot quicker (more than it is, which it IS quicker) than my s1000r because it was lumpy. Upgrade to a AUD$44k bike? It is not twice a new s1000r nor is it 1.8 times a Speed Triple RS. I reckon the balance of sound and character would be a STRS or (as currently contemplating) modifying my current ride with Akro headers, SC SP can, replace the front plastic bits with a Motodemic or similar single round LED headlight and strip back some of the fairing.

Great review as I own a 05 speed triple which I love. However is it still a license loser say if you dropped it into road mode , be good to know your thoughts 👍
@CaptainRambunctious5 жыл бұрын
Even in road mode, although the throttle isn't as twitchy, you still have that power and that infectious noise when you rev... If 1st gear red lines at 72mph, and you love the noise it makes at the higher gears, you're always going to be in the illegal zone... Same with your old one I suppose! It's down to the rider.... Used sensibly, you could easily keep your licence. But I'm not sensible enough! :-) Thanks for watching and for the comment and ride safely... TBH!

I own a brand new out going 2017 speed triple S - The only thing I’m bothered by on mine is 1st to 2nd is so...how do i put this...i wanna say not short and easy? when it goes into 2nd gear its such a loud clunk...like violent almost? its not as buttery smooth as I’d like or thought it would be? The rest of the gears ok.. is that what you were getting at in the end of the video? Nice review!
@CaptainRambunctious5 жыл бұрын
I think that you've hit that on the head. The 1200 classics have a wonderful 'snick' to the gears, whereas on the sportier triples there's a more mechanical 'clunk' into gear... Although a quick shifter makes all the difference...
@HJM19745 жыл бұрын
I have a 19 Speed S with the optional quick shifter. The quick shifter works fantastically well and really should come as standard :)
@Barabassx5 жыл бұрын
Got a RS too, i'd say the blipper works fantastically but the "up" side works fine, no more. If you test the BMW or KTM and you will see the Triumph one works just "fine", no more :) But i agree it should come as standard on a bike so complete and picey !

Keyless ignition. I have never had it in any vehicle. I actively don't want it. Bikes and cars are stealable enough without such security holes. I have never felt the hardship of putting a key into an ignition switch.
@Barabassx5 жыл бұрын
i was quite sceptical too...never had that in 21 years of motorcycling but honestly it's a really nice feature i now appreciate a lot. Not sure it's a security hole, once they've broken the normal ignition, they are gone. On keyless, once they've stolen the bike, they can't ride more than few hundred meters and then the engine stops if they don't have the key or a special scanner thieves use. The bad point with feature is the stock alarm (from Datatool) which is a pain in the a** but well, insurance wanted it...

Black bikes, especially matt black, are just so camouflaged. On the new 2019 Street Twin Triumph have a colour they call "iron stone" that looks like a Ministry of Defence camouflaged dark olive green colour. I prefer bright colours so the borderline Stevie Wonder non bike drivers might see me. Hence my Speed Twin will be in red!
