I may very well have been scared the first time I saw the bad ending when I was younger. I had no idea what was even happening to Siegfried, and the screaming was a bit much back then. Also, the whole idea of bad endings was new to me, because I'd only seen Tekken endings before that, and they seemed more like good endings at the time (the ones I could understand, anyway.)

So if anyone wants an in depth explanation of Siegfried first ending, which is canon, here it is. When Sophitia, and Taki fatally defeated Cervantes (with one of his swords destroyed in the battle), Siegfried happened to arrive on the scene. Lying next beside the dead pirate was the powerful sword, Soul Edge, the same sword he was searching for. As Siegfried attempted to grab Soul Edge, the spirit of the demonic sword, known in-game as Soul Edge, or in later games, Inferno, attacked him! With only half of it’s power left, the spirit was weaker, and Siegfried would end up being victorious in this fight. Seeing how unstable, and troubled Siegfried was, the spirit of Soul Edge decided he was a wonderful host to help it’s own wicked goals. It spoke to Siegfried, and made a “deal”; it sinisterly told Siegfried if he collected souls, and helped restore it’s own power, then it would resurrect his father. Siegfried agreed, and as Siegfried finally got the chance to wield Soul Edge for himself, it clamped onto his hand, possessed him, and released the Evil Seed (that explosion and beam in the sky. It was caused by Inferno’s own unbalanced rage after the other half of Soul Edge was destroyed and Cervantes was killed) The Evil Seed would cause destruction, chaos, and devastation around the world unlike anything before it! For the next couple in-game years, Soul Edge used Siegfried (now under the persona, “Nightmare”) as a puppet to harvest souls and complete it’s other sinister objectives. With Siegfried’s incredible talent in swordsmanship, and the help of several followers, Soul Edge was slowly becoming more, and more powerful, again! 2024 and Nightmare/Siegfried is still one of my favorite video game characters, period!

Siegfried's first ending was canon.. Soul Edge had sensed the bloodlust in Siegfried and how he killed his own father and bonded with him like a symbiote. Peace had returned to the regions of Prussia/Germany everyday life sang at night never knowing that Siegfried now Nightmare was lurking nearby.

The first ending is the only really canonical thing that happened in this game. Sophitia defeated Cervantes but was heavily wounded. Siegfried stumbles on Cervantes’ body, which is reanimated by Soul Edge. Siegfried fights and beats it and then claims Soul Edge and is possessed by it, turning into Nightmare.

Cervantes wasn't defeated by Sophitia. She broke the smaller soul edge with her holy sword, yet she was about to be killed by the pirate, but was saved by Taki, whom finished Cervantes, taking advantage of his weakened state.

There are other pieces of canon in the endings, sorry if that's what you meant by "the only really canon thing". For example, Mitsurugi's bad ending is partly canon - he didn't find and destroy Soul Edge, but he did challenge a gunman to a duel and get shot, so his ending is partly canon.

Siegfried is the unluckiest guy in Soul Calibur. He forms a group to help out the commoners, ends up killing his dad. He goes searching for a legendary sword to bring him back, ends up getting possessed by it. He frees himself from the cursed sword, it makes a clone of his body and continues to kill people. He searches for a holy sword to beat the cursed one, turns out its actually another piece of the cursed sword and it possesses him too. Dude cant catch a break.

It also possesses its wielder, though towards spreading Order instead of Chaos, which in this case means eventually covering the world in crystals. This happens in Siegfrieds non-canon SC4 ending, and is the main twist conflict of SC5

At the very moment Siegfried grasped Soul Edge, Soul Edge warped his mind, and spread the destructive “Evil Seed” across the world (that big beam of explosive light). Soul Edge promised if Siegfried collected souls for itself, it would resurrect his father. Siegfried excepted, took the identity as “Nightmare” and in the next game, he would get several followers to collect more souls.

@@Neogears1312 That's not at all what happened. Siegfried fell into a bad crowd with his Father's absence, and that group of friends basically became a bandit gang. Said gang decided to hunt deserters from the Italian Wars because they would be easy prey carrying valuable equipment and the authorities wouldn't care if the deserters died. Siegfried's gang attacked one group of deserters at night and overcame them thanks to their element of surprise and the fatigue of the deserters. Siegfried murdered his Father without either knowing who the other was, and it was only after the fact that Siegfried had his psychotic break and kicked off the events of this game.

i remember playing the game one time as Siegfried. In the fight, I honestly lost my sword and he fought like a Tekken character. When I won he did sort of a standing pray and arms out pose and said "That battle costed me my finger, but so costed your life."

All the alternative endings in the game are activated by inputting certain buttons when the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen disappear during the cutscenes. In Siegfried’s case, this occurs when he is slowly walking towards soul edge; pressing the B button will cause him to destroy the sword instead of grabbing it.
