I loved this series! While I enjoyed the first book, I didn't quite become emotionally invested just with that one, but the second and third books reeeaaally put me on an emotional rollercoaster, especially the third one, which I flew through.

the second and third books honestly wrecked me. they were emotionally all the things i want and am weak for in books *sigh * i really need Book Depository to run a sale on the paperbacks so i can buy them because i need to do a reread DESPERATLY

So agree! I love how we as readers have only Damen perspective, so the tension and the mystery that Laurent is is stronger, and we go guessing and analyzing his words and reactions to understand him and what he does... wonderful.

yaaaaaas, like you have such a limited view of whats happening and you KNOW theres more to the picture and the way everything unfolds in books 2 & 3 is just devastating in the best way xD

Good review. Finished yesterday the trilogy and it was better that I tought that would be... Really liked the two main characters, and the character's dynamics overall It wasn't as "rape-ish" as that I tough, when I read the blurb on the Goodreads site. (Take 'Marista E. Hansem' "My Master's Nightmare" or 'Rachel Haimowitz''s "The Flesh Cartel" as examples, those book's series were brutal, really horrific and graphic...) This trilogy even if it's leading with slavery, it was a lighter reading than I tought that it would be.

yes the characters are truly something special. i genuinely went into them expecting something like Ann Rice's Beauty books and was sort of braced for that but was so pleasantly surprised when they turned out to be actually political-character driven stories instead.

not that i've read personally. back in the day when i was more fannish i definitely read a lot of fanfic that had similar tropes, but since this series is kind of edgy and dramatic (in a greek tragedy kind of way xD) ive found it hard to find something on par from traditional publishers. sorry wish i could be more help :( its still one of my fav series after all these years tho, id still rec it if the plot and relationship sound interesting.

not really the same kind of story, but i did found the f/f relationship in Gideon the Ninth/Harrow the Ninth as compulsively additctive to read (and it does share some over the top tropey edgy elements to it)

yay! hello fellow Captive Prince fanatic XD i have not read the single issue short stories, but i have read the short story that was included in the Penguin re-issue of the first book. i really want to read them but i'm on a book buying ban so i've been holding off buying them =/ i've been desperate to reread the trilogy pretty much since i finished it but im keeping that for something to do in 2018 so i might pick up the shorts then when i do my reread.

What was the short story included in the first book ? I read them in my native language which is not english so I don't have the penguins ones Okay okay ! Yaaaaaaayy definitly do ! I highly recommend them ! I only read two, still need to buy the other one, but what I read was amazing ! The Summer Palace is like a nice epilogue and it's all cute and The Adventures of Charls, the Veretian Cloth Merchant is the funniest thing I've ever read !

i think it was called..The Training of Erasmus. it was more like a bonus chapter i guess but it gave a complete little backstory on that character which also showed a lot of world building for Damon's kingdom which il iked. i'm definitely going to pick up the official shorts eventually! and YESSSS the Charles one sounded SO FUNNY. i loved his character XD

This book REALLY reminded me of the Farseer Trilogy. It’s very similar to the political machinations of that book.
