I am seriously considering moving from Lightroom to Capture 1. Really enjoy this video and am looking forward to more on Capture 1 Pro Basics.

I switched a few months ago but am still getting acquainted . The Catalog/Sessions thing seemed very confusing but finally got that worked out. Changed because I use Fuji and Cap1 seems to do a better job of processing Fuji sensor images.

Jeff- What an EXCELLENT intro tutorial that I really wish I had watched when I purchased Capture One Pro (v22). Like so many others' comments in this video, I too have struggled with importing and exporting using Sessions while trying to make sense of it all. I even considered switching to Lightroom out of frustration. So, thank you for your work here! Can't wait to watch your follow-through videos in this series. Cheers!

I've just bought C1v21 (Nikon) and just made the switch from Lightroom. Initially I had a real problem understanding the Catalogue/Session methodology (Lightroom is, I think, much simpler to use when storing and cataloguing pictures). Took me a little time to understand it all, but after much trial and error, testing and multiple imports from Lightroom to see what happened I'm now more at ease with the whole process. I'm still playing and learning the various tools but I'm impressed with the system and really glad I made the move. I've found it better to use my Canon (ImagePro 300) Professional Print & Layout app for printing which gives me much better print control over the print outpit compared with the native C1 Print commands which, frankly, is really limited and needs extensive re-programming to bring it up to the necessary capability that C1 deserves. The personalization capability, keyboard commands, screen/tool positioning, floating tools and the ability to save my two screen setup or a Lightroom (lookalike) - or whatever I want - are just superb.

It can do a lot for sure! Some prefer LR, some C1Pro - some print out of LR, some C1Pro - I prefer to print out of Photoshop but that's only because I take 100% of my images to Photoshop before output anyhow, no sense in my process to send it backwards in the pipeline to print when I can get a great print from PS. Everyone has their workflow that works best for them. Glad you are enjoying C1Pro!

I am an armature photographer and have been serious for last 4 years. I use Lr (and occasionally dip into Ps) and I do like the catalogue / library set up. I have dipped into other programs but the more I have used Lr / Ps the more I have learned in post processing. I also do like the PRINT module and the BOOK module )BLURB). I had a quick view of Capture One the other day and now I am curious?? I have just subscribed here with updates reminders too. VERY interesting indeed and will ponder as your videos evolve on how to use Capture One… thank you [very well presented] Really logically described / produced. You have said that you will cover Capture One over time (which is fine thank you); but is there a print option ~ in Lr you have a fair amount of control over printing eg paper ICC profile, using computer or printer profile.

I am not particularly keen on Capture One (nor on Lightroom). The reason I use Lightroom is for its catalog capabilities. Everything else I do in Photoshop. Conversely, the only reason I use C1 is because I have a Phase One IQ4. As a RAW developer for the Phase it is better than LR, and some features like double exposure won’t be recognized by LR. But once the image is developed I go to PS. So i use both just because… If I could do everything in PS i would not use either.

Great video ! I have a question though, how do you export multiple images to photoshop in multiple layers in order to do a focus stacking ? I can't do it... It opens in several windows, not layers, in photoshop... What a bummer for a landscape photographer...
@forestchaput3 жыл бұрын
I would process the files out normally in C1Pro through the Process window, then in Photoshop: File> Scripts> Load Files into Stack. Then, select all layers and choose Edit > Auto-Blend Layers > Stack Images. There is not a native way to send it to a single multi-layer document from C1Pro directly to PS, but it's 4 clicks or so in PS to load them into a stack and then blend them.

Looking to switch from LR after 11 years. My question is I'm a Nikon user and I noticed the Capture one has all these version based upon a camera, fuji, nikon,sony any reason and any difference ?
@forestchaput3 жыл бұрын
Capture One Pro "all cameras" will handle all the cameras listed as their supported cameras. This is ideal if you either own multiple systems, or for digital techs who work for a variety of photographers and need to interface with a lot of different cameras. But, if you have a specific system, it may be better to get the camera-specific version. To my knowledge, the programs are the same otherwise.

question, in lightroom when tethering, there are no images written to the memory card, correct?. Is this the same when tethering in Capture one?
@forestchaput3 жыл бұрын
Most cameras will only record to the computer and not the card when tethering. There are a few Fuji cameras and Sony cameras that are capable of sending images to the card and the computer at the same time.

@@forestchaput Canon can also do this via it's own (free) software EOS Utility. I showet live in EOS Utility and import them straight to LR so I have them there after1-2 seconds. I consider switching to C1 but and am very concerned about not being able to capture image both on computer and SD cards. If I am out at a location and not able to bring a back up storage, that means the whole photoshoot is trusted on my old Mackbook Pro to not crash in any way. Any thoughts hon that?
