Just getting the telescope collumated will make a huge difference. Then experiment with shutter speed and use the absolute longest you can before you see streaking. And stay out of digital zoom. Also, don't forget to look through the eyepiece. Jupiter is beautiful. The moons are great, but wait until you see the cloud bands, maybe even the red spot. Maybe you'll even catch one of the moons in transit and see its shadow. Theres just something about seeing it through the eyepiece rather than on the screen on the back of the camera.
@starshipmechanic4 жыл бұрын
the problem is that the powerseeker 127 doesn't keep in collimation, just adjusting the focuser moves it out of collimation, even if the mirrors are perfect it doesn't matter because it has a lens in the focuser that is held in by a spring that moves when you adjust the focus

I had that exact issue with my 127eq, i got it completely fixed. I remade my center marking but more accurate by measuring from the sides (since they dont come with a marking). And when i put the mirror back in i put it as far back as it would go in the tube while still having about 1 turn left on the tightening screws when all collimated, the mirror came back about 12mm and that + the more accurate collimation made a huge difference for me with both focus and CA

Yes your telescope definitely needs collimating, If you have never done it befor don't worry it's not difficult, and there are lot's of tutorials on youtube showing you how to. Did you know ,you can collimate your telescope without having to buy anything, you do what is called a star test, again, a quick youtube search and there are plenty of tutorials. @@glhmedic it may not be a good telescope in comparison to everything that's out there. However as a beginner telescope, especially for someone who has no idea what they're doing I think I have found that it's been a great learning experience. No doubt, if I were to spend double the price of what the telescope is I'll probably get 5x better performance. But I would advise doing that only after one understands the basics of telescope use. The struggle is real pegging Jupiter with the 127EQ. It's gotta be collimated, lenses perfectly brand new clean, and then you're only 50% there due to how much the telescope zooms on a tiny area, so you're going to be twisting those cables like a madman looking for the planet. You'll probably see a moon or two first. Once you spot Jupiter the struggle becomes tracking it while you're trying to tell a family member to finally come outside and see. Have them on alert and your text message typed out and ready to send with one button. I managed to get Jupiter clear enough to see the 2 streak cloud systems just faintly. What I did was have the different lenses ready to go in my shirt pocket... and when I had Jupiter tracking halfway to the center of my view I quickly added the 2nd lens, so now I have stacked lenses... I do the same thing when I remove the top lense and add that little snubby Barlow lens, then it's hard to track but you get the best view possible in my opinion. The 127EQ shakes like a leaf on a windy day. Literally a car passing by will shake the telescope enough to make a difference when you're focused on such a tiny spot in the sky. It's quite nerve-wrecking but worth it.

The telescope you examine in our country is 7000 Turkish liras, this is our 2-month minimum wage, even though it is one of the things I want most in my life, it is almost impossible for me to get it.

Actually, you need to do the opposite with your camera. You need to shoot at faster shutter speeds. You might also want to stop the camera aperture down, like, to f/8, etc. That's because Jupiter, Mars and Moon are very bright. I mean they will look like solid bright spots without features. To pull out Jupiter's bands and get them on photos, the tripod should be rock-steady. Most likely, it's not about collimation of the scope but if it is, your scope needs collimation very badly. It's a severe case then. To me, it looks like your blur is a result of excessively bright settings in your camera, plus you rig is a bit wobbly. And no, going to a darker location won't help at all. It will only help for very dim objects, like galaxies and nebulae. As I said, it might be an extreme collimation problem. Anyway, you should still be able to see at least two bands on Jupiter. I would also suggest using planet and moon filters. Those filters help bring out the features of Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. As to the moon it is so bright, it makes me almost blind to look at it without a moon filter! A few more points: 1. You won't see Jupiter bands or shoot Jupiter bands through 200mm lens because that's not enough of magnification; 2. Digital zoom does nothing at all -- it basically crops the image, it doesn't affect the resolution at all, and it won't add any details to the photos whatsoever. 3. Video footage from a still camera is far worse or, to be more precise, far less detailed than actual photos from it. I'm afraid, you are gonna need at least a 70-80x of proper optical magnification (no digital zoomimg!) + plus proper focus + proper exposure (overexpose a little and your Jupiter will be a bright blob with no bands visible. Even the Moon will turn into a solid blob of light if exposure is too high!). 4. Shutter speed is also critical. You should use very low shutter speeds or the image will become way too blurry. Probably 1/300 second or faster! Unfortunately it won't help anyway with Jupiter. It needs too much magnification. You will need, like, 1000mm lens + very high res camera sensor + very precise focus or a telescope like the one you got, which might need collimation. That would be interesting if some 50 megapixel camera + 1000mm lens can pull off Jupiter bands but I believe that can only be possible with a tripod. Funnily I just googled it and found that it was pulled off with a 800mm lens (+2x teleconverter = 1600mm) but the guy used wrong shutter speeds (very slow), so his images are way too blurry: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJrIY5eIgdyiZ9k .Here is another guy who used the correct shutter speeds (and proper technique = shutter release cord to make the camera less shaky) and got similar/better images with only 600mm lens(!): kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3TCc5-jh9dleLc

Hi, I'm just writing to thank you for this amazing video and also to tell you about a mistake you made when using the telescope I say you made a mistake because I have that same model of telescope (Celestron Powerseequer 127EQ) and it happened to me the same as you. Basically, when I wanted to observe the moon or some planets, I would point my telescope as you do, screwing a screw until it goes up enough to observe the celestial body that I wanted to see. The point is that I broke that screw because this is NOT how to observe, to do it well and not damage your observation equipment, I recommend you look for videos on how to occupy an equatorial mount. Greetings from Chile, South America

@@w71c47 I commented with recommendations in another comment, on the low price end an Orion funscope is less powerful but much easier to use and far more likely to work properly for like $70-80. For a bit more than the powerseeker the Orion StarBlast or the AWB onesky (which is made by celestron, but to spec for an astronomy non-profit and sold as a fundraiser for a good cause) are both of similar power to the powerseeker, but easier to use and with far better optics for $200. I do not recommend the powerseeker, it is a bird jones type reflector, just type in bird jones telescope into google and read through the astronomy forums and you'd have trouble finding anyone speaking very highly of them. or if you want to go for it, I've always heard a 6 or 8 inch dobsonian is they way to go, but they are like $500 for a good one, and I have yet to pull the trigger on one so I can't really say what's good there.

Hi man, you made me laugh with that Telescope everything was out of focus. Here's some tips, Get yourself a decent Celestron telescope, Deluxe Edge HD series are great and take that Telescope to the Museum as it's had it's day. A whole new world wll open up for you, mark my words you will never look back!........only to the beauty of the Universe. Enjoyed the video, Thumbs up from me.

you cant shoot long exposure as the earth is spinning.. to shoot long exposure you need a motorised mount that tracks the planet etc.. you should looking into photo stacking for astro photography.

Here Italy, i have the passion for the astronomy from ever, i have the telescope "Skywatcher heritage 130/650" with parabolic mirror, from AMAZON only 188 Euros the price. Low price but high quality, with this telescope Jupiter,Saturn and Venus contrast images, Mars i do no. This summer year 2022 in the sky many planets in vision and in month Agost-settember Jupiter very near.
