I don't understand all the hate for Mission to Mars. Reminds of something on SFSGSW, while the chorus riff sounds like something off CTE. Excellent job with the tone. This new album was a great marriage between early era Megadeth and modern production. For making albums for 40 years, it was an amazing achievement!
@kurzackd2 жыл бұрын
well, where is that "hate" exactly? I have only read and heard extreme praise for the song. And why should it be otherwise, considering how badass it is? :) The only thing I've seen that comes close to "disapproval" (although it's NOT really...) is people expressing wonder at what exactly makes it so likable to them. btw, here's what the song should REALLY remind you of: The verse riff is an almost direct ripoff of the verse riff of The Offspring's song Smash (from the same-titled album). And, man, what a badass song that one is also! :) The intro jingles are an allusion to Another Way to Die -- the main Soundtrack song to the 007 film from 2008 -- Quantum of Solace. The frantic outro riffage is, of course, a reference to Metallica's One. Hope that clears it up! :)

I had high hopes for the album when We'll Be Back was released, and boy did it not disappoint! It's one of if not the best Megadeth album imo and my personal favourite. With the guitar tone I also don't believe it's Dave's normal set up let alone a Marshall. While I think the tone is a little "stale" sounding, it's probably Dave's best tone imo. It combines so many of my favourite aspects of his older tones and it just makes it so much more enjoyable to listen to. Some people like to shit talk about Mission To Mars saying it's "cheesy" and "weak" but I personally love the song. It may not be as strong as the other songs on the album, but it definitely has a character to it and as a sci-fi and astronomy fan it's very entertaining to listen to.

His tone around 2008 with the jvm 410h is pretty hard to beat
@RafaelCDet Жыл бұрын
the tone is likely from a neural dsp quad cortex. Kiko got Dave acquainted with those. And imo i don't find the tone stale at all, i particularly enjoy how it sounds relatively modern and crunchy but still very distinct from the generic boosted 5150/jcm 800 tone that has dominated every big budget metal and hardcore record since 1993.

Great job as always, Mr. LambChopper! :) I've come to explain *WHY* Mission to Mars sounds so amazingly catchy and FUN to everyone's ears: 1) The intro jingles are an allusion to Another Way to Die -- the main Soundtrack song to the 007 film from 2008 -- Quantum of Solace. (Disturbed did something similar in their eponymous song (Another Way to Die) back in 2010) 2) The verse riff is an almost direct ripoff of the verse riff of The Offspring's *song* Smash (from the same-titled album). And, man, what a badass song that one is also! :) (By the way, Mustaine has said in the past that he's a fan of The Offspring, so please don't accuse me of imagining things. It's clear as day this is an homage!) 3) The frantic outro riffage is, of course, a reference to Metallica's One. 4) The singing style, lyrics, and of course just the overall story narrative is just SO. DAMN. *COOL.* . (like LambChopper said, the spoken-word interplays are really great! :) ) So there you have it! I hope that at least contextualizes things for you and makes it easier to understand WHY. :)

Choppers delivers yet again with another KILLER instruction vid on how to nail a respective tone down! :) However, despite his amazing job at that, I would suggest that he rather refer to *TABS* when learning the riffs, as his current method of playing them demonstrates that his by-ear learning technique is not exactly on-point! :P (also, there are some timing issues...)
