I've been wanting to try actually scripting a video in advance, and to try and do some actual interesting video editing, so this video was the guinea pig. I spent my weekend trying to figure out how to capture raging brachydios, and so now you've got to suffer alongside me. In the end I was successful, not using pitfall or shock traps, but using the flashfly cage trap via my palico. I ended up getting additional capture rewards, but the quest counted as a failure. Amongst the rewards was an immortal reactor, so I'm not complaining ;)
Capturing Raging Brachydios is actually a bit of a complicated affair, there's a few moving parts and it's easy to forget some of them. This ended up taking me something like 20 attempts in total between figuring out/testing what might work, and actually executing the capture. I got a nice selection of his parts at the end though (iirc I even got an obliterator, though no warhead, from capture rewards, but this sample size of 1 is pretty much meaningless). Unfortunately the capture does NOT appear in the hunters notes, nor does the brachy appear in Seliana's captured monster area :(

Spreadsheet info:
I have a spreadsheet which collects all sorts of data on Monster Hunter World Iceborne that people ask about a lot - things like the materials needed to upgrade the best charms (e.g. handicraft, expert etc), a list of all the guiding land monster drops and gathering nodes (plus it's searchable), what materials you need for every possible augment (attack, affinity, defence, health, slot, element/status) in the game, etc:

It also includes things like a list of ALL the 4 slot decorations (including even the rare 12 ones which ONLY drop from sealed feystones) so you know the best deco's to aim for when farming. It even has detailed images for the guiding land gathering nodes (the one's that drop materials like the guiding dragonbones/crystals etc) which you need for custom weapon upgrades/augments!
My list of guiding land drops can be sorted either by drop type (so it finds the monster to fight for a particular part) or you can use it to just find the parts belonging to any monster (no more pulling your hair out over how to get those Enchanting Finehide/Trancehide for your health augments!). This goes up to and includes the tempered elders (speaking of which, check out my 5 slot tempered investigation farming macro if you haven't already!)
It also has a Safi'Jiiva relic checklist to easily monitor which awakened weapons you're missing from the new siege!

The cat trap is funny: my cat loves to cancel topples and wall slams with it, so I avoid it, but when it works you feel carried by the cat, haha. On a sidenote: use tranq ammo, man. You can just prep the capture (you probably know that, but forget to use it just like I do, but well, it's better). I'm loving your content, keep on!

I too have been trying to capture and I learned a method that works regardless of team size. Very easy to patch so I'm going to enjoy it for now. As a hint, most low hanging exploits are tied to the slinger. I must admit that having a Palico trap already prepped was clever and would make it easier.

If your cat has been spamming traps before the final phase and the monster has been triggering them, they build up a resistance to it and the duration gets shorter each time, which is probably why your trap only lasts a second in the final stage. You could use another gadget first and swap to trap before the final phase But, all this is pointless since you would fail

This is a good video. I didnt even know it was possible to capture raging brachy, and you explained how your method works and why, one step at a time. Very helpful and interesting. I just wish you wouldn't hate on your own video and style so much during the video. It really pulls me out of it and just makes me sigh or feel annoyed. Just an FYI, you can do good wakeup hits with stickies, just shoot the ground near their head instead of shooting them directly, Stickies do splash damage and will get that sweet double damage if you hit the ground near them. Much better than doubling the 1-2 damage initial hit.

First palico gadget I leveled up in Iceborne was the trap one specifically because I wanted to level everything for the sake of it and I knew I wasn't going to use it in endgame, so might as well get it over with. But you know what? I like the boombug cage a lot, actually. It staggers and trips the monster like crazy and unlike the regular traps the monster doesn't build a resistance to it. If you could somehow get rid of the flashfly cage and shock trap thingies and *just* have the boombug cage I might actually use that palico gadget...

The Flashfly Cage is my most used Palico Gadget nowadays, that bomb net is a guaranteed Flinch, and a Guaranteed Knockdown on its second hit, it also works on Elder Dragons. I just wish I could disable the actual flashfly part (or at least change the AI) because my cat puts them down right in front of me whenever I get a knockdown and fucks that up because flashes stand a monster up. The cat will also occasionally place a Thunderbug Cage right on the monster when I go for a Flinch Shot, which because of the badly tuned Claw mechanics guarantees they'll be angry when they stand back up (and I lose the wall damage) But despite all the complaints I have none of the other gadgets feel like they do anything anymore

A couple of things I’d like to add here: 1. They’re patching this next week with the release of Alatreon :-( 2. I just did this myself. Raging Brachy doesn’t have a model in Astera or Seliana if captured, but it’s technically still there? The researcher commends you for capturing it if you speak with him. He acknowledges that there’s a captured monster there, even though there isn’t 😂

Hello cons, thank you for making this video. I was actually going to try what you did. Fortunately, there was somone crazier than me. I also wanted to say that some rare rewards can be obtained as long as you fulfill the condition for it even if you don't capture the monster. You can get the reactor by breaking the head and cutting the tail but it's not guaranteed. It just increases your chances. So, if you break the head and return from quest there's a small chance you might get it. In that case, why not stack all the possible ways to increase your chances by using lucky cat head break and tail cut carves

I never understood why capcom felt the need to hide the tranq threshold of a monster like is that in it self suppose to make quests more tedious then they need to be? Because before we assumed that when you see the skulls that that's all the signal you need but you don't even always need to see skulls for it to tell you that it's still possible to be captured. pretty annoying imo.

Its similar to there not being a health bar. In theory its so that you have to try and work stuff out from instinct and monster behaviour, but in practise people just ignore and fight till skull/limp. I agree its probably time to give a proper indicator, maybe even just a monster health bar. maybe the next game will add something like that as a QoL change

You just need to grab tracks when you first meet a monster, then your next runs you literally grab one track at any point in the hunt and it'll give you the Skull indicator. I've honestly never had an issue with getting the skull indicator.

just gonna say have you not seen rage gaming's vid where he trap locks a deviljo for the entire hunt? although this technique requires a 4 man and alot of resources you simply have 3 people placing traps continuously then running back to the camp to restock while fourth person just sit's there and whale's on the monster it would be pretty easy to do in the first area too as it's so close to camp

I have not seen the video, but this is a pretty standard thing and even gets used to grind up levels in the GL. I knew with a synced up 4 player team it would be easy to just trapspam and cc lock, but alas i lack the skill and friends 😂

That only worked because that camp in particular was so close to where the pickle got trap spammed. Any other location either has crawl spaces or climbs to deal with and keeps a team from being able to properly keeps traps permanently flowing.

Is it possible to kill raging brachy without him ever reaching the final Zone? Like in a 4 hunter Party and you just Constantly stagger, stun, paralyze, mount, flinch shot etc him in the previous area that he is always stopped from leaving and eventually Deal enough damage while he is locked down that he dies before the last area?

Another way to get traps (if unlikely in this context) is through pawswap. There are a few items that you can pawswap to each tribe, and they use the intermittently if you have them with you on a quest. As well as large bombs, the four powders (not dust of life), and both traps. Don't think they'd place them here, though?

Ive actually never tried pawswap so i cannot confirm, would be difficult to get the cat to time the trap tho right?

@@ConsOA I was skeptical when I read the reddit post about it, but can confirm it works. They use the items somewhat randomly, you certainly have little control over it. The bombs they place when you place bombs, like with palicos and the Molotov gadget. Traps/powders are more random, although they have helped in a pinch before!

Maybe try guard up, Lvl 5 guard skill, and offensive guard, with blast resistance and perhaps blight resistance, and health boost and max stamina up. I think it's feasible to have all those skills at once. Perhaps use a lance for max defense and tank everything you can.

Heeeeyyyyyy................ uhh, so I don’t mean to burst anyone’s bubbles here, but there’s a much easier way to do this even before brachy gets phase 3... Using the trap cycle method with 4 players having rapid fire sleep and para ammo on their lbg (if they don’t have aquashot the Shara one is probably best) it’s really easy to keep Brachy pinned down while whittling away it’s health while it’s immobilized.

I wanted to try with 4 players but i dont know anyone and have no skill x_x I knew that with good enough teamwork, this should be possible, but it was still cool to talk about the trap mechanics, palicos and stuff

I like cat traps. just random traps and stuns here and there. and knock down. also if you pre-tranq even after several uses ((making them last half a sec)) can still be used to cap

One thing that may help with capturing is flash pod. It stops The animation for some seconds

Fun fact you can tranq a monster with 2 tranq bombs or ammo and then put the trap down and once it hits that trap it goes to sleep Me: not patient enough to watch one more second to see him explain that to his viewers oops
