I love renting this lens. I’ve been using for events I get hired for. I rented it again for an event tomorrow but I’m definitely going to take it to a high school basketball game tonight!! Thanks for this 📷

I love my copy, the AF is quite fast, not silent and instant like the new 24-105 f/2.8, but fast enough. The 85mm f/1.2 DS is a little bit more of a noisy AF and a bit slower but images are amazing from it. A lot of my colleagues just use the 24-105 f/4 for everything and are very happy. So don't feel any pressure to run out and pick this thing up. It does replace a 35mm, 50mm and 85mm for a number of my colleagues too. In fact for weddings they use this lens and the 135mm for 95%, and then the 15-35mm for the 5%. And rare occasion pull the 85mm f/1.2 in the lowest of light situations.

I have the 24-105 f4 at work and I’m not a fan at all. But it’s being a f4 isn’t the greatest in low light but yeah. No pressure on me to get this lens really. Was very fun to use though. Thanks for watching and giving me your thoughts!

@@DLivingston Yeah the 24-105 f/4 is not a lens that is like "wow" by any means, but they use it for pretty much everything, including corporate events, school portraits, high end corporate headshots, family portraits, studio portraits, senior portraits, sports, general parties and events and it just holds up even in low light the R5 does okay at ISO 8000 and up with that lens and on camera flash. Are the more expensive ones better, heck yeah, but the 24-105 f/4 is light in comparison and does just about everything well enough that it really is a practical lens for general photography...and yes, most could literally run their entire photography business with just that lens. The other one they use extensively is the 70-200 f/2.8. Sorry not trying to be contrary as I have invested in the expensive lenses, but have clearly seen that those f/4's do just fine in most of the work we do. I just recently sold my 24-105 f/4 and got the 24-105 f/2.8, because I also shoot a lot of video and wanted the hybrid capability, and don't really feel comfortable hanging the 28-70 f/2 in front while on a tripod (turns out canon rep said most the damage to that lens was folks trying to balance that sucker on a tripod), you need heavy duty gear to hold it up (like real video tripods).

I understand where you are coming from. I use the 24-104 for all my corporate and government work. Not saying it’s a bad lens. I just prefer the 2.8

The weight normally never bothers me for the 28-70…except for basketball. Raising the camera + lens vertically, you’ll be feeling that weight in no time. I reverted back to the 85 because of it.

I can def tell that going vertical would add up quick. I do love an 85 prime as well. I would probably go that rough vs selling or trading in for this over the 24-70. Thanks for watching!

Doesn’t the 85 weight about the same?
@danidah
@danidah 17 күн бұрын
@@davidmpoliveira1 I think it’s the extra weight plus the length making it “heavier” (center of gravity I think) trying to go vertical quickly and you don’t have your sides help support. It’s definitely more difficult for me. I’m fine with the 28-70 in normal events, etc

@@danidah Oh okay, I understand. I own the 28-70, but not the 85, and I’ve never tried the RF 85 L specifically👍

My 85 f2 is much lighter. I’m sure the 85 L are heavy as well.

This lens was my Xmas present to myself. So far I have used it for volleyball and ice skating, and I am so used to shooting with primes indoor that I am struggling a little with using the zoom ring effectively. But it is a very nice (and heavy!) lens, and all the fears I had about its AF speed are gone.

Heck of a self gift, I love it! Luckily this zoom isn't much so shouldn't take long to get used to. I used to be all prime as well but over time found that the zooms come in handy in many situations.

It is cool lens. How was your hit rate compared to a normal 24-70 f2.8 IS L?
@DLivingston
@DLivingston 19 күн бұрын
Pretty much the same but the 24-70 is a great lens so it would be hard to miss a shot with either.
