Getting some comments about the shutter dial not working correctly to switch the AF zones...if this is happening to you, go to the purple AF menu (page 4) and change the “AF method selection control” to the second option (“main dial” and not “M-Fn button”) - that should do the trick for you!

Personally, I set the shutter button for only metering. I set the back focus AF-ON button focus and track from the initial focus point. When letting go of the AF-ON button, focusing stops and becomes a locked single-shot focus until the button is pressed again to move to a new focus point. It's much faster to aim focus your point with the AF-ON back button, let go and shoot as many shots as you want until you refocus by pressing the AF ON button again. As long as the AF ON button is pressed (with tracking) AF is continuous until the button is released. Very simple.

With switching between single-point and face tracking, an even faster way to do it is to map face-tracking with continuous mode to your AF-On button
@BoodskiBro2 жыл бұрын
Also, my DOF preview button is mapped to toggle between servo and single-shot
@joshrexford2 жыл бұрын
Oh nice that’s a good idea. You can map face tracking WITH servo on to one button?
@BoodskiBro2 жыл бұрын
@@joshrexford Yeah that's right. When you go into the "Customize buttons" screen, select the AF-ON button, hit the Set button. Then choose "Metering and AF start". The icon is the Metering icon and the "AF" letters. Hit the "Info" button to "Detail set." You'll see a new screen with three options: "AF operation", "AF Method" and "Servo AF characteristics". Set "AF operation" to "SERVO" Set "AF method" to Face + tracking Set "AF characteristics" to "Maintain current setting" which is the hyphen icon. That should do it. Now when you are shooting, no matter what AF settings you have normally, when you hold down the AF-ON button, it will switch to face tracking servo. It's so handy for someone like me who is still used to move single-shot, but still wants to use face detect sometimes. If fact detect doesn't work, I can quickly go back to trusty old single-shot by letting go of the back button. Let me know how you go!

This is a great video. I love how everyone can make the R6 work best for them. I'm a back button focus guy. I use the AF-ON for focusing, and I have the AF Point Select button set to switch to face tracking -- super easy to swap back and forth between the two focusing modes I use the most. I am 1000% going to be utilizing that Recall Settings function, though. That is genius.

Thanks for sharing. I have quick question on "Register/Recall Shooting Function" - when I click assigned button for this "Register/Recall Shooting Function" , the recalled setting flashes a split second and turns back to the current setting, unless I press and hold the button. Is this the right way to use it? I'd like to set this to quickly turn to indoor shooting with flash, but holding button is kind of awkward. Thanks.
@joshrexford2 жыл бұрын
Great question - so this setting is really used to just temporarily recall a specific camera setup (shutter speed, aputure, ISO, etc) - basically just a quick, emergency push when you need a semi-auto mode for a frame or two…not to fully change all your settings over. If you’re looking to do that, I’d program some settings into the C1/C2/C3 dial so you can just rotate that top dial and have those settings ready for you!

Hi - I dont seem to have the camera icon (register / recall shooting function) on my new R6 or am I doing something wrong in trying to find it. Great video, thanks

Hmm that's strange...it SHOULD be under that "customize buttons" menu and then as an option once you select a button to customize (you'll have to select a button to customize FIRST and then the camera icon should be an option). You'll have to also click the little "INFO Detail Set" button to select the specific settings you want to customize...but obviously if you can't even get there that's not helpful hahaha. Such a helpful video for a fellow wedding photographer who has just ordered the r6. Quick question, does the recall option go back to the previous camera settings when you press it again, or do you have to change them manually if for example you moved back outside
@joshrexford11 ай бұрын
So glad it was helpful! And great question, the recall settings only are active while the button you select for that feature is being actively held down - once you release the button, the camera goes back to whatever settings you had it set to before you pressed the recall button.

Just got an R6 a few weeks ago, it is a great camera. I am learning how to properly set up the godox flash triggers to use with my ad200 and ad600 lights not much out there on setting this up but I think I have it now HSS and manual mode is all I really needed to set up.. I shot Nikon for the last 20 years and setting up the flash triggers was a breeze there compared to all the new menu dives you need to go through to set things up on canon..

So you'll need to hold that * button down and then click the shutter to apply those settings to your shot! It's a press-and-hold, not a one-tap set so once you release the * button, the settings will revert back to whatever you had set previously. Hope that helps!

@joshrexford2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! And great question. You’re going to want to make sure the setting you choose is the one called “AF point selection”…should be the second from the right on the top row and look like a rectangle with 5 af points in the shape of a + inside it. The other one you could pick is the first one on the second row called “Direct AF method selection” and that one won’t let you use the scroll to cycle between, you’ll have to tap the M-Fn button to switch between modes. Hopefully that helps? Let me know if it works!
@joshrexford2 жыл бұрын
OH AND ALSO, you’re going to need to change a setting in the main menu. Under the purple AF menu page 4, change “AF method selection control” to the second option “main dial” and not “M-Fn button” - that should do the trick for you!

Hello! Thanks for the info, quick question - I set up the recall/register function as you showed in the video. I entered the settings as you showed with one exception (the AF to face tracking instead of point) and hit the register settings button. When I use the button, it works but it choses it's own f stop and I can't figure out why it doesn't use 2.8 as I set it to. I have the Sigma 35mm 1.4 ef mount on the body with the canon ef adapter on. Any idea if there is another setting overriding the recall setting?

you do realise the toggle button if pressed re-centres the focus point. So you don't need to assign this to the set button. I have assigned the set button to the menu that way I can keep holding the camera to my eye and use my right thumb to hit set which goes into the menu without having to take the camera away from your eye.
