The difference between 24 and 28 are huge IMO. It’s not just f2 vs. f2.8…there is a reason why the industry moved away from what was the pro standard of 28-70 to 24-70…so I think that comparing the 24-70 f2.8 to the 28-70 f2 is misleading. Now I can even export JPGs to my iPhone directly(yes Canon made a usable app!) and edit in auto mode, so my wife doesn't bother me for weeks to edit some photos :D And in RAWs colors do not fell apart after heavy corrections. Maybe a dumb question but how can the Sony and Canon equivalent be the same if the latter has both a larger diameter at the lens and the camera. Doesn't that mean it lets in more light and hence allows for either lower shutter speed or ISO? Or am I missing something? Appreciate this comes at the cost of weight, but that's irrelevant for the question posed.
@adamadamisАй бұрын
They both get the light to the same size sensor, so in essence the diameter needs to be matching the sensor. If it is unnecessarily bigger, there's no benefit.
@JK-of4dr29 күн бұрын
Thanks but your reply makes no sense. Both cameras have the same sensor size but Canon has a larger diameter at the camera and also at the lens in question. This must mean that the Canon captures more light....
@adamadamis29 күн бұрын
@JK-of4dr No, it doesn't capture more light. The aperture blades inside the lens regulate how much light goes through. The mount at the rear can be as big as you want, but it won't improve it. A good way to visualise this is using water as an analogy. You have a certain size of glass that can hold a specific amount of water (that'sthe aperture F number). If you pour that into a bucket, you'll still have the same amount of water. The thing is, you don't need a bucket at the other end.
@JK-of4dr29 күн бұрын
@@adamadamis understood That's now a different question but what is then the benefit for Canon's larger diameter?
@adamadamis29 күн бұрын
@JK-of4dr I can't think of any benefit. If you have a larger mount, then you can place the sensor further back inside the camera body. That was important with DSLRs, as you had the mirror assembly in front of the sensor. But with mirrorless, you don't need that, the sensor can be close to the mount. Nikon's film and DSLR mount was a bit restricted back then; they didn't get it right. They now have a supersized mount for their mirrorless. It doesn't hurt, but will limit how small the cameras can get.

1.4L and 1.4GM hybrids are new 1.8 pro standard and F2 zooms are new F2.8 pro ZooM standard yet with the choice of 2.8 zooms for those cant handle weight n cant giveup that 4mm wide which is a significant 8°❤ I wouldnt be surprised if they launch a 70-150 F2 ZooM

IMO Sony could have had a home run with a 24-70 f2. Doing a 28-70 f2 instead is a relatively weaker positioning play because it’s clear that Sony’s implied message to the consumer base for some time has been that whatever Canon can do, we can do better. IMO unless Canon has a second gen 28-70 f2 ready for release within a year, the move is to let Sony have this one and focus instead taking the flagship game to Sony. The A1 II is very much an incremental update (likely leaving room for a global shutter gen 3), the R1 very much a R3II. A variant of the R1 that would supersede the A1 II and hold its own compared to a Z9 II would be a good move to stabilise the brand by putting a stake in the ground. Then next look into a LF camera for the C series because IMO a Sony MF/LF line is an eventual thing. Fuji IMO has gone for some first mover lead by teasing the GFX Eterna despite the slow sensor readout. IMO it doesn’t seem likely that can be dramatically improved, otherwise they would have advertised so because that’s the first question and doubt everyone has. Then let the LF C series trickle down to a MF mirrorless model. Combine the LF/MF line with the stereo lens R&D to really cement a strong hold on the market for producing stills/video for VR headsets

One should absolutely switch from Canon to Sony if you’re using this lens because this lens’s job is to reduce weight of carrying multiple primes. With 550 gms less, this allows for more efficiency and productivity! 😊

Personally, if I need to purchase similar lens at such a price point, I would go for canon 24-105 f2.8

I would switch from Canon to Nikon and get the Sony E -> Nikon Z adapter for this lens. If I wasn't poor that is. I think I am still making payments on my R5/RF 28-70 f/2.

Why would anyone switch camps every time one of the big three releases a good lense or body? That'd be insane 😅 The differences are so minor these days anyways. I sold all my EF glass and switched to RF when the R6mII came out because it offered a hell of a lot of improvements over my old gear. However, I stayed with Canon because I'm used to the menus and button layout, I really wanted the 100-500, and most important of all to me, I always love how the pictures look out of camera with a Canon body. If THAT changed at some point, it'd be time for me to look elsewhere for new gear, but not a day sooner.

I love that Canon is innovating and forcing other manufacturers to compete with lenses like the 28-70. I hope tons of Sony shooters pick this lens up and experience how awesome it is and shoot incredible images with it, having owned the canon for 3 years now it’s basically become my workhorse over 24-70 and was a big reason why I went with canon when I switched systems from Nikon DSLRs.

Remember the reason for 28 as the widest possible on these lenses: no distortion like you get when you go wider. Maximum quality, beautiful glass 28-70f2 is… i use it like 90% of the time… cant go wrong with this lens

That Jareth character was wearing a dark contact lens on his left eye to mimic Daid Bowie's permanently dilated pupil. Talk about attention to detail! The falcon image shows significant blue fringing, FWIW but you're likely to get that shooting wide open.

@@simonmaduxx6777 There is a Samyang version of the 35 - 150 available for L Mount. I just got an S5IIX very recently, and that is certainly one of my dream lenses. Would be perfect for gigs & events. Sure most reviews seem to suggest the Tamron version has better build quality and autofocus, but at least we still have an option.
