As a British child of the 2000s... You either grew up being terrified of animals thanks to deadly 60, or much more fascinated by them. Luckily I was the latter, but I still wouldn't really want to wrestle with this. Massive respect for Steve. Ashame he doesn't do this more extreme stuff any more.

When catching wasps it's usually best to lift up the net by the tip, since it's the wasp's natural instinct to crawl up. That way they don't crawl under the edges of the net.

He calls the wasp's behaviour 'grotesque' but there are a whole world of predators out there who will eat their prey alive or cause intense suffering - Clostridium tetani is a single cell - be careful in applying human emotion to the natural world, it sounds rather asinine.
@geist8844
@geist8844 4 жыл бұрын
That may be so, however the wasp paralyses its victim, drags it back to its burrow, and lays a single egg on it. The larvae will then eat the victim from the inside out starting with organs less required for its survival so it stays alive as long as possible. Did i mention the prey has no ability to move or do anything?
@DrTWG
@DrTWG 4 жыл бұрын
@@geist8844E.g Jewel wasp . It's not a simple case of paralysis - it's more subtle than that . It's about behavioural control . The wasp leads the roach , it doesn't drag it , it's legs still work .The larva doesn't start eating from the inside . It matters not for he calls it grotesque as it brings out our worst fears . It's simply elegant ! Nature has no time or need for emotions or morality.
@Captain_Neckbeard
