Charlotte Rae and Al Lewis had me LOL! There was another raucous comedienne who reminded me of Charlotte Rae - Jo Anne Worley (from Laugh-In) I've been bingeing on Car 54 for the past few days. The great comedy and even the opening and closing music has been cheering me up and helping me recover from an illness.

Guess what? I saw Charlotte Rae live on the Broadway stage in the mid sixties when I was a teenager living in New York City. The play was called The Beauty Part. It starred the great Burt Lahr playing 6 different characters. Charlotte Rae also played several parts in the play. I remember it is clear as day. She delivered a certain line in her inimitable way. It was "Don't touch me, you measal!" I adored her. And these Car 54 Episodes are the best. Thanks for sharing.

"Bently" is performed by none other than the notorious Charles Nelson Reilly! The one crooked publisher (Daniels) was performed by Dave Doyle. Doyle would later achieve moderate fame as detective "John Bosley", the boss of the "Angels" in the "Charlie's Angels" series.

I thought it was funny when Charles Nelson Reilly kept teasing Brett Summers and she kept teasing him on the game show "Match Game" in the 1970s. I loved watching David Doyle in "Charlie's Angels." Of course, Charlie in "Charlie's Angels" was played by John Forsyth (sp?) who was in "Dynasty."

I was in the acting business for a while between NYC and LA. If I could turn back the clock I'd love to be on this show. Little did I know that during my career in the Bronx that I rolled by the land that had Biograph Studio located on it a million times. To me, that location is sacred ground to the TV and movie business as a ton of classic stuff was shot there.

Oh yes, Charlotte Rae as Sylvia was wonderful. She was CRAZY! Her and Al Lewis were a great couple. The Courtship of Sylvia is really something. Sitting in the bed hollering "I wanna get married" like a boss nut! I agree, her episodes were really funny. BUT CHECK OUT LARRY STORCH IN "HERE COMES CHARLIE" the drunk, OMG. Best series ever. Listen Kevin or somebody, WHO IS THE OTHER CROOKED PUBLISHER with Joe DeSantis. He isn't listed in any published, yet he is quite familiar. Thought it was a young Tom Bosley, but no. MANY OF THE CREDITS (OR LIST OF GUESTS) WERE SOMEHOW ALL LISTED AT THE END OF "SOMETHING SPECIAL FOR SOL". People from other episodes. Don't know what was going on with the lack of space for credits back then. We certainly lost a good person in Nat Hiken. Track most of his stars, the industry paid Nat good tribute by casting most them in other shows, even the guys from McHales Navy, and I am so happy that he featured MOLLY PICON 3 times. She was one great Jewish Grandmother - check out her career, she was something and good looking too!

Funny that Leo says Sylvia doesn't do cooking & cleaning but in one episode she made for dinner pot roast, potato pancakes & gravy for Leo. And Lordy it sounds so delicious. She is indeed a good housewife just as Gunther's wife is - they're wacky personalities were great, but they were indeed dedicated to keeping home & hearth together for their men. And widowed mother of Muldoon was portrayed the same way, dedicated to her family. So many sitcoms were written around family & community back then. That was also the theme of The Munsters AND The Addams family. Yes, families are complicated & not a walk in the park but shows like that gave encouragement. After years of family DRAMAS the next great show of a dedicated family that dealt with all kinds of issues but reflected love regardless was The Waltons in the 70s. After that it seems Hollywood went downhill pushing selfishness & radicalism as the way everyone functions. All In The Family dealt with all of the ideological problems too, but did it with 2 sides being shown & didn't push one over the other. And it was really funny too. ❤
