Wow. I have been struggling with this all summer. I thought it was the condenser was bad. Maybe the plug was broken. Nope it had too much air. It was overfilled. I took the gauge that had the trigger, held it down till it went from red down to low (it was warm air and freon) replaced with a can of ez chill ....bam! Done. I'm literally writing myself directions in case I have to do this again in the future. This is literally the only video on KZbin that suggests letting some of the air out. I did fix my A/C yesterday, And works much colder than I bought 8 years ago. I never had adequate cold flow to a satisfactory level before. Dumb me not going on KZbin and fix it in 5 minutes. It stopped blowing cold air since last year. I thought maybe the car getting older and that’s what I get! I was wrong . All I had to do was to hook up the pressure gauge. The low showed too high on the red. I released pressure down to blue line and started working again like it’s new. Buying the pressure gauge was all I needed 👌
@kenlgraham4 жыл бұрын
Ken Graham If overcharged put charge can in ice water wait a couple minutes for it to cool, stop engine to increase pressure, open valve coolant, gauge should drop as high pressure migrates to cool low pressure but will start raising again. Shut gauge quickly give time for ice water to cool new hot gas in can, repeat. Start car check pressure if still to high repeat, if too low remove from ice water let warm up and while running add a bit, wait and let that cold refrigerant equalize as comes up to temp of motor refrigerant. This worked for me on a R410a 1 ton air conditioner, I see no reason it won't work for you with a empty or near empty can. This would legally fix your issue as you are not releasing it to environment, and you have refrigerant for future use for that vehicle. If this works for you as well please up-vote to move it up list.

Seems how something so simple would work!! I thought for dammed sure by getting "greedy" with the cold, it was going to cost me a lot of money to have it "professionally" done. Now the back story that could help some..... The air was already pretty cool but the PSI was only showing mid 20's and when the compressor kicked in for a few seconds, maybe 45 (which isn't the reading you're looking for). After "filling" (maybe 5 oz's)..... It read 40 and 60.... However, it was only 70 outside. Next time I turned it on, it was less cool so I went to look at it and the Compressor clutch kept cycling and screwing with my RPM.... on top of the seemingly warmer air..... THAT WAS IT..... and I came here.... Thanks for the simple fix my man..... My tip would be, if you don't need a whole lot, don't turn the can upside down when topping off...... Rather put a little in at a time through different heat conditions and don't go for MAX cold, you'll just end up wasting it

I haven't read all the comments but, I made the mistake of not watching the AC compressor while it was running .....I had the pressure of the low side spiking when the compressor cycled OFF. Professional hvac advice I received was that at 90 degrees the low side pressure could be in and around 55psi. Note that while compressor was running pressure was 39 psi which is near optimal. Watch the gauge reading in relation to compressor on/off state before adding or removing. The pressure of your on cycle should be what to focus on.

Thanks my man! I just charged my car yesterday, and the pressure and AC were fine. Today it's extra hot, and AC was blowing warm air. If it's a bottle Gage and the bottle is empty you can slowly unscre the bottle and while wearing gloves and the bottom where the bottle goes pointing it away from you with the engine/compressor running, let some of the gas off. Don't let too much out at a time. When you hear your compressor kick back on the Gage will indicate the pressure in the system.

I used a/c pro to recharge my system in my 2009 Lincoln MKS. I did it once a few years ago and it was perfect. Cold air, no issues. The AC started to blow warm again in June 2022, so I figured I'd recharge it again. This time, not so good. While charging, I noticed my engine stuttered and the a/c pro gauge jumped back and forth. When I got into the car, the air was warmer than before. Thinking it just might need some time to recycle, I drove home. The AC never got cool, the engine was rough, and the RPM gauge in my car jumped wildly. I ran the ac when I got home for about 25 minutes, and nothing changed. Now I think I have an issue and will need to go to the dealer (likely $200-$300 to check, evacuate, and recharge). Before I made that call, I thought I'd check once again on how I might fix this, and saw this video. I watched it a few times thinking it couldn't be this easy. I read a hundred or so comments. Many thanks and good results, so I thought I'd try before making the dealer appointment. I put on my gloves, grabbed a towel, and before I turned the car on, I attached the A/C Pro gauge without a can and pulled the trigger. IT WORKED! It only took a few short squeezes. I started the car, turned the AC to full blast, AND IT WAS COOL!. I went back to the gauge to check the reading while the AC and Car were on, and made a few more short squeezes until the gauge got into the green and settled in the green at 25. Removed the cord/unplugged, recapped the low-pressure input, closed the hood, and enjoyed cool air inside the car for 25 minutes. I turned the car off, waited a few minutes, restarted, and turned on the AC. It still worked. The whole thing took under 10 minutes. I'm so happy. Saved me $200-$300, and a day at the repair shop. I know you're not supposed to release the contents of the system into the air, but it was so little I don't feel bad at all. Thank you @Yourself for this most helpful video.

It should be in the blue (on this gauge) all the time when the car is running a little above idle with a/c on. Running at 15 when the clutch is engaged is too low. it says so right on the gauge. If you hook up the gauge and it is high and the a/c compressor is cycling on and off quickly, you don't have enough freon. As you add freon, the pressure should go down, and you should hear the compressor running longer and longer. My compressor is loud. Your's might be quiet...you'll know it's kicking on/off because it will click and bring the engine idle down when engaged/running, then click and idle will go back up. If the compressor is not turning on, several things could be wrong like a relay, nearly no freon, bad clutch, etc. If you add a can of freon and the pressure does not go down or compressor cycle, something is wrong. One of my cars is 15yrs old. I have to add a can every year. You know you must add it if the a/c works when it's cool outside, but doesn't work when it is hot (above 80?). With the a/c on max, the clutch was cycling/engaging for about 2 sec, then off for about 5 over and over, and the air coming out of the vents was warm.

Thank you. Worked like a charm. My car A/C reacted exactly like yours did. Pressure was too high and compressor wouldn't run for more than a second. Let some R134 out and it started to run, then the pressure built back up and it stopped, so I let some out until it runs as it should.

Thanks for the video. My AC was working in the morning and late evening but right at 3PM when it's super hot the AC was just blowing hot air just like your issue. I could hear the compressor kick in and out so I know there's Freon in the system and system is working. I release some pressure out a few times and now my AC is cold once again. Previous owner probably did some work on the system and either overcharge it or not enough Freon. Thanks!

Those are typical symptoms of someone not pulling a vacuum before initial service what the refrigerant. If you have the same situation you're never going to save it need to evacuate the system pull a vacuum then service it then it will work above 85 and 95 degrees like it's supposed to.

Thanks this video helped out. In my case, I had too much Freon and had to release the pressure. It sure sounds like either you have too much pressure or too little pressure and the compressor therefore turn on and off. If you just recharged it I would imagine that your pressure is too high. And if you haven't recharged it, it probably means your freon is running low. At least that's my opinion.

i just put a can in yesterday, it does get cold now but it does go from cold to not very cold, back and forth. then today i checked with the same gauge the video has and it keeps going from the bottom of the green to the top of the yellow. and i hear the click everytime it goes up or down. is this the same problem?

I drove myself nuts with this today. Make sure the air conditioning is on high speed, Max cold and that the fan is set to high..... If the compressor is NOT running, or has temporarily cycled off, you may get an overcharged Red Zone reading..... if the air conditioner compressor is cycling on and off and clicking, the only correct reading will be when the air conditioning compressor is on. When it clicks or cycles off, it may jump to overcharged, even if you have close to the correct amount of refrigerant in the system. In summary, the ONLY correct reading will be when the air conditioning system is on and the compressor is actually running and not temporarily cycled off!! When the compressor stops cycling on and off, you will get a more accurate reading and can fine-tune the adjustment, by either adding or removing refrigerant.

@AltonRowell-gb1lb5 жыл бұрын
That's the high pressure switch making it cycle the compressor. While your letting out that freon if it's being sucked into your cars engine is being turned into fosgine gas. That will kill you.

Releasing coolant is illegal...but who really cares? I once brought an air conditioner with coolant to a recycling center where the person who was supposed to take the coolant section for a fee told me to take it off myself and toss it out saving me the money. He didn't want to bother. Some great system.

This really saved me a LOT. Worked perfectly. I used a plastic bag and just threw the end that would be expelling the gas to keep it more contained instead of possibly getting in my eyes!

FINALLY! I thought it was the relay plug, it wouldn’t quit stopping and starting. Endless cycle. I just found out it i put too much pressure in, and it showed on the gauge there was too much pressure once the car had been running for a while. Let your car run with the gauge connected, and once the car has say for about 5ish minutes you’ll tell if there is too much pressure.

so you use the same hose and gage that came with the refrigerant can? do you just unscrew the refrigerant can off the hose and then hook the hose up to the low pressure line?

When it fluctuates you need to keep adding freon because its too low until the needle stays steady. Instead of removing freon how you were doing you needed to keep adding freon until your compressor stops turning on and off..
