Doug's the sort of guy that doesn't take his videos too seriously. His main schtick is to just locate rare or obscure vehicles and point out all the "quirks and features." The reason he knows values so well is because he owns his own car auction web site that specifically caters to car enthusiasts. I'm sure if your paycheck was tied directly to the state of the used car market you'd be very well informed, too.

I knew it was the Saab. It's a classic. Here's what I remember about my cousins. Back then, it was pretty fast. When the turbo kicked in, it was like a 2-stroke motorcycle power curve; it came in one huge sudden rush. The turbos were better; they didn't destroy themselves, like most other turbos of the day. The top didn't leak again like other cars. It cornered great, and having the turbo kick in as you exited gave me goosebumps. It was a driver's car. You had to know the car to get the most out of it. It didn't have many gremlins especially compared to other turbos. The look was odd/cool/different and perfect for the era. Rust was a problem if it was kept outdoors, but since this one was clean without rust, it would be expensive. Good memories.

The SAAB 900 turbo is an iconic car in multiple aspects. It was the first car with a turbo available to the average person. Before that turbos were exclusive to expensive supercars like 911s and lambos. Obviously having a turbo made it way faster than anything else around its price point. The performance was also accompanied by a very cozy and well built interior. But the biggest reason this SAAB and SAAB 900 turbos in general are selling for a lot is because of the cult behind them. SAAB has surprisingly a lot of fans and what all those fans know and hate to admit is that the 900 turbo is the only SAAB that matters and the only truly great car the company ever made. Everything before and after made by SAAB was a way worse product. It’s SAABs only big hit and it was indeed a revolutionary car. I’m not saying this to spite SAAB fans, I own a 9-3 Aero myself, but the truth is that no matter how much effort SAAB poured into making great cars out of the GM chassis they were given it was not enough.

My stepfather bought that exact SAAB, pre-covid, here in Perth Australia. Mint condition, always garaged, 1 owner, black metallic paint, 5sp manual. Never had a fender bender... not even a stone chip. He drove past it almost daily. Oh and approx 24k (so 15,000 miles). Asking price was only 15k but he wouldn't budge. He sold it to mike, only because he knew how well he kept his cars & triumph classic bike, for. Wait for it........ 8,000 cash!!! In the last 6yrs he's averaged 1,000k per year. In the DRY only for mostly car meets. And been through full services & inspections yearly. I have no idea what this little piece of gold is worth, but suffice to say... it must be a boat load!
