When an engine management light comes on usually you need to reset the computer by either removing the battery terminals for at least 10 mins or putting it on a computer . Hope this helps You can also regenerate the dpf usually.

Top your water level to max, leave the cap off, get someone to turn the engine over and if the water fountains out of the top, you know your head has gone.

I had two blown head gaskets, first time around I had fixed for £1000 second one only 5 years and 38,000 miles later it went again. Though in some cars they are easier to fix than others. Good luck with your new car hunt, at least you can try and bare in mind your new camping hobby when buying another car.

Dough will be right mate, oil in your coolant more than likely means one thing, head gasket. Could be worth putting a new engine in, depends if you want the hassle of doing it yourself. Hopefully you get something sorted mate, once Christmas is over ill give you some money to try and get things started again. All the best, Paul

Seal a latex glove over the coolant bottle top and see if it immediately starts to inflate indicating combustion gas getting into cooling system. It will normally only inflate slowly due to the water heating up. All the best.

I hope youve been able to sort it by now. I had a couple of Scenics and a Grand Scenic and Espace ! All engines failed. Had one rebuilt and it lasted a year. 😐 Didnt make sense. Other manufacturers used the same 1.9 Dci with little problems. I turned to Peugeot 807's Massive space in the back, a real solid and economical car and so reliable. 😁

Fair play for Doug, my first car camp was in a tiny Cheverlot Spark, you couldn't lie flat but I slept better in that then my bigger car to date, with basic things. Only just got my newer car sorted now with a decent mattress. Hope Doug loved his first car camp, it is all about the experience and adapting. Sorry to hear your engine went, same issue I had and only recently upgraded if you remember, once I had money back from showroom. I got rid of my Cheverlot Spark when I had repair after repair. This might be a blessing the car situation, but in the moment it never feels like it.

I would have got an OBD reader on that and checked the error codes. May not have been head gasket failure, but something else that could have been solved cheaply.

@@BrendanExplores Exact same car, not the same issue, but Scenic’s are spotty for reporting issues. After I bought mine, I kept getting a check engine light, and a bunch of errors popping up. OBD couldn’t figure it out. Ended up going back to the dealership, and they swapped out a camshaft dephaser for me. I doubt you have the same problem, but if anti-pollution is coming on, then there’s a chance it’s the issue might a smaller thing that sets off the alarm. One thing to bare in mind, if you use CC/SL, the programming might get wiped if you replace a part of the engine. A trip to a Renault garage is the only way to fix that, as it needs reprogramming.

Hopefully it's not a major issue. It's normal to have a bit of dirt in the coolant reservoir as it's not sealed. It being empty can mean a leak or it naturally evaporates out the same way dirt gets in. Take it to a garage and get the system flushed and they can add a solution containing aluminum that will find any holes and fill them in.

Since filming this mate, the coolant reservoir has filled with gravy mix oil 😢. Tried putting gasket seal in but no luck I'm afraid. More updates to come 👍 thanks for the advice

Check for a cream mayonnaise type mixture in the oil cap (water/oil) or white smoke from exhaust. If it doesn't have those then it may not be the head gasket and could be something like the air-oil separator. I had an MX5 when I lived in Oxon Hall and that had head gasket failure and it was churning out plumes of white smoke from the exhaust. Yours was not doing that in the video and seemed to be running OK.

Ahh right, I had my filter changed not that long ago to be fair. Did you have any oil in your coolant?

@@BrendanExplores my citroen always had a greasy feel to the coolant, but it was definitely the fuel filter on mine. The fault can also be related to a throttle sensor which is cheap and easy to replace. Obviously the biggest worry would be a head gasket, you can get the system pressure tested fairly cheap. Hope you get it sorted, it's always gut wrenching when a vehicle plays up like this.

If you have oil in your water it follows you will have water in your oil. It's probably sorted one way or the other now but your dipstick would be high on fluid. Oil cap could have honey type sticky stuff under it. If it's not sorted drop the oil and drain the water. Obtain K Tech system seal, the best and most effective I've used. Not granular ( Rad Seal ! ). Add fresh oil and slowly top up the water and K Tech mix. Leave till hot. K Tech does state the limits of effectiveness in the product description before you buy. DPF ..use a high quality additive concentrated. Take the car on the motorway in third and boot it for about 30 mins or until the light goes out. You are not driving it hard enough basically 😂😂😂

Rubbish news about your car mate, I know it doesn't help you now but it's why I tend to avoid renaults as I've never not known anyone whos owned one not have a big problem with one! My sister included with a clio. Love your channel though and I hope to see you back on the road doing more videos very soon! Shame you can't go for a small van next with rear passenger seats in that you can remove when using it for camping weekends etc
