I drove an Aerostar for a while. Thermostat went bad, blew out the coolant line to the heating coil in the back, and ended up destroying the engine block. By the way, the Aerostars that have rear heaters use Ford specific connectors for the coolant lines that NO ONE makes replacements for. I had to get replacements from a junkyard.

Here's the method we used for tuning up a chevette back in the day: 1: Check all fluids and top off as needed. 2: Start car, take it on a back road and beat the living shit out of it. 3. Recheck all fluids and tire pressures, repeat step 2 if needed. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

I looked for a chevette 11 years ago and didn't see any on Craigslist or anywhere around. Unless you live in a really good area you can forget it. Why don't they put stuff on the net where you can search it? I wanted a small rwd vehicle. Ended up getting something almost if not more rare a stanza wagon 4wd. It can become a nightmare trying to get the right clutch and brake master cylinder

@@extremedrivr If you think you can do better then why not go there and apply for a job. The vehicles sit out in the yard for so long for people to get parts off of them. If they parted vehicles out then it would take up too much room in their building. There would have to be a high demand for the parts for them to part them out otherwise it's just a waste of time to part out the vehicles.

That's how I used a junk car, well my parents got a Volkswagen Rabbit (I believe the date was the late 1980's).. they got it for parts or something.. but eventually it was dragged down into the woods where I destroyed it with an ax a sledge hammer and anything I could get my hands on, I just went to town on it and smashed it.. I was a kid after all.. plus we had a junkyard until the state forced us to get rid of it all.. the Rabbit stayed because it was hidden away.. over the years I filled it with trash.. eventually someone tried taking it out of the woods for scrap metal but couldn't move it because the wheels seized up on it.. so they left it there.. then someone tried to roll it over so they could drag it out of the woods and bring it up to my sisters old garage so it would be taken away.. but he failed at it and left it there.. most of the metal stuff I had there was brought up to the dumpster (The guy brought most of it up to get rid of it for free) But there was an old bumper down there that was part of a good size vehicle and at least 7 tires... there was an old wheel down there with wooden spokes too.. I miss having that little spot.. it was my haven.. I had a nature trail but since I lived in Florida at the time, my trails were taken over by nature.. trees that snapped over and fell across the trails.. That's all childhood memories and that car was one of my favorite memories.

Your story brought back a memory. Back in the 80s a friend of mine bought a Fiat 128 for $500. Talk about bad luck, just as he got it home the timing belt broke and destroyed the engine. The car was otherwise in great shape. After a couple of weeks of trying to find some way to fix the car for a reasonable price he finally gave in and decided to junk it. However, since it didn't run and the wrecking yards would have to come out and get it, none of them were willing to pay him anything for it. The policy back then was 100 bucks if you drive it in $0 if we have to tow it. Since he never titled it in his name and the previous owner did not know his name, one evening after a few beers we decided to at least have some fun and destroy it in the parking lot of his apartment. Some guy came out and tried to stop us, but we said that there was no law in destroying your own car he walked back inside. Anyway, we bashed on it for about an hour literally destroying everything, it's amazing how much damage three guys in their early 20s can do given a sledgehammer a knife and some boots. After that we were going to push it under a freeway overpass about a quarter mile away and light it on fire. We were not able to do that as I had already slashed the tires making it too hard to push, that was probably a good thing that that was not able to happen as I can imagine the bad things that may have happened had that fire got out of control. We ended up getting it about two blocks away from the apartment and left it there. After a few days the city towed it away. You probably can't get away with that anymore given the number of cameras everywhere. He figured the owner would at least have some explaining to do since the plate would still come back to him.
