The biggest issue when buying a car from a dealership besides what your mention is the finance person. Can speak about Canada but in the US this person will often make an "honest mistake" when they calculate your payment. DOUBLE CHECK their math! The biggest thief in a dealership is not the salesperson, It's the FINANCE MANAGER!

When i buy my cars and they added these add ons "because most people want them" I just tell them that's their problem, not mine and I dont know a single person who wants this, so this feels scammy to me. Then I patiently wait for them to order me a car with no add ons or walk. I dont pay for delivery fees or admin fees or I walk. It usually takes me about 6 months to seal a deal, but i dont get ripped off and im never desperate to buy a car. I also double check the math in finance and make sure they didnt manage to sneak in the fees.

An unbelievable $5876 in junk fees. You should NEVER agree to pat junk fees. Remember that the DOC fee is also a junk fee.

doc fee may be a state law to charge either charge no one, or everyone. So may have to leave it listed and offset it out of car price or trade in value.

Another great video! Thank you. Dealers association should not be above the government. I always say these dealers pay for their license wear their suits and steal money from the consumer . So unethical of them. Never buy from the dealer! Get Car Help!

Admin fees, $499 to $999. How do dealerships get away with it? I saw a $300 license fee; what happened to $25 ON fee.

NEVER pay more than MSRP. A year ago some detroit dealers were adding "adjustment" lines to their invoice. I was lucky enough to put a hold on an incoming car but once the car is on the dealer lot they are free to do whatever they please.

So thankful for you and a US site that teaches us how to negotiate car buying. I was much more prepared buying than I was 10 yrs ago buying my previous car. I walked out of 3 dealerships on initial quotes who wouldn’t take off doc fees, etc. But in B.C. I never saw really outrageous add ons.

I bought a new car about a year and a half ago and did not have any issues with the dealer. Actually they were really great. They did not pushed or try to sell me anything extra. Many months later my car arrived from the other side of the planet. I paid in full and off I went with my day. I think there are dealers that are better than others. It’s good to shop around and get at least 3 quotes. That should weed out the bad players out there.

In the U.S. the invoice price is NOT the price that a dealership pays for the vehicle. The actual price is invoice cost MINUS the amount held back by the manufacturer, usually 3-4% of MSRP...depending on the vehicle brand.

Don't be afraid to walk out if the vehicle has any dealership add-ons that you don't want to pay for, or the pricing is higher than the MSRP on the brand's main regional OEM page vehicle builder tool. Don't finance any vehicle for longer than 72 months or for a monthly payment exceeding 8% of your gross monthly income. In short, don't be a fool.

Very disappointing to hear the Ontario government backed down on a cooling period for consumers. I hate the idea of dealing with the finance department and extended warranty sales pressure so much that I will just keep repairing my 11-year-old vehicle rather than going in to buy a new one.

If a dealer adds add-on costs to the vehicle that are not legitimate fees and taxes, I would not even deal with that dealership. Imagine how you will be treated afterward when the warranty runs out and you need service... $500 for oil changes, $100 for air pressure checks and refills, and $200 for air filter replacements... just stay away from these types of dealerships. Go on the web and find dealership revues at least 4.0 and above and then visit them to see how you are treated and if they try deceptive methods and pricing on you. If they do go to the next one.

I don’t understand, the manufacture invites you to build your own car online. When you’re done, they send your info to the closest dealer. Someone calls you and basically beg you to come and visit the dealer. When you get there, you get a different configured car with a totally different price. That’s shouldn’t be the case.

Several months ago was shopping around for a vehicle and looked at a new in-stock Lexus UX250H at local dealership. I asked sales mngr to email me the price breakdown. Since Lexus vehicles will take 1-1.5yr factory order wait, they had one in stock but had $6K of added unnecessary options and pkgs plus dealer fees etc. when I asked if those could be taken off, he said no they’re mandatory. I said: “ no thank you!”. My wife and I agreed, yes Lexus vehicles are nice but not at $6K nice! Ended up with a brand new in stock Touring CRV Hybrid paid at MSRP with $1K off Honda bonus! 😂

Disagree that the dealer is only making $2000 in your second example. There is the dealer holdback from the manufacturer. any dealer incentives and rebates from the manufacturer to consider. In my opinion the dealer is making a lot more than $2000 on this sale.

The government may not help un this regard. Else the auto insurance wouldn't have been so bad here in ontario. It's a big lobby..so the best way is we ourselves take them in the social media to spread awareness..I guess thats the least we can do as consumers..
