Very cool: work in progress at Barstow AND Revy! I had never seen a bar undercutter and had to turn to Google to find out what this one was doing. What an amazing, time- and labor-saving piece of machinery! Loved the "coyote" and the real canid (a big fox maybe?) and the musical segment at La Plata. Another great one!

That MOW Ballast Saw at Revelstoke was cool to watch. Sometimes I could use something like that on my HO Layout. I just checked-out Barstow on Maps, to see just where the Bridge decommission is taking place (N. 1st Ave at the Yard East-end) It's interesting to see how the road has been re-routed.

Good time to dig out old ballast and ties since train crews in Canada are on strike (a deal was reached on the 26th) 10:29 what was this guy thinking?! 11:38 CSX MOW and hoppers train on the rarely used Defiance-Toledo track of the Deshler junction. This is led by CSX 8882 14:11 a dangerous shortcut back to your car via the tracks. I am amazed to see so many people walk over the crossing 15:53 solo leader warbonnet passing another freight train and an Amtrak 18:37 Metro north M8 train. The 7th car is a weird center car placed between two inward-facing cab-end cars. Followed by a train with New York Central heritage unit 211 at the rear 19:36 NS 8099 leading 19:50 NS 1072 leading 20:08 setting up an inflatable animal to wave at the Auto Train 20:52 military train with small fuel tanktainers at the front and empty flatbeds at the rear 21:47 wind turbine blade train at the same location a couple hours earlier 24:02 MOW train of articulated gondolas and a dedicated MOW locomotive. The reason such special locomotives exist is so that non-union workers can operate them 26:39 removing the smaller spans of the old 1st street bridge in Barstow. Scrapping of the other large span begins.

It looks like that spot is a "mud pumper", so probably replacing the entire sub-bed with fresh ballast to improve drainage.

Signals were red over red at the signal bridge near the west end of the platform. If the engineer passes the absolute signal without dispatcher authority both the engineer and conductor of the Amtrak will be relived on the spot and decertified
