As a lineman for a power company my first question to the Incident commander is "who's Jackie Stewart?" Anytime a transformer is hit? It's big money. Especially now with supply chain issues. First priority is the safety for the crew, public & lineman. After the car is removed the next priority is restoration. Large commercial generators are brought in to power up the customers lost on the 167 kva transformer. That might feed several large buildings with electric heat as it looks to be condos? Third is safe removal/spill cleanup of the leaky unit. Splice in new cable in the transformer & replace bad unit. Restoring power after generation is removed. We don't get involved in the money aspect. The attorneys get involved with that. Hopefully the motorist is insured?

In my experience (many firefighters will probably argue with me though) narrow fog is far more effective than solid stream in dealing with class B fires in vehicles. Solid stream is particularly bad as far as pushing pooled liquids around. Fog won't do that, and it cools more effectively as well.

Is that a pad mounted transformer? If so, why is it placed so close to a public road? That is a code violation in my state, unless it has substantial protection from wayward traffic.

Good job fellas !!! How come everyone is on air, the guy with white helmet doesn’t need Scott pack?? Oh I forgot he is officer so smoke can’t hurt him!! Come on guys got be more careful only gave 1 set of lungs and we need you guys around for long time for your family!! Thanks for your service

I see this all too often! Worst offenders is FDNY hands down. My empathy level for firefighters contracting lung issues😂 is rapidly diminishing. It’s time for all departments to enforce mandatory use of SCBA’s! Start suspending them without pay for violating what should be a mandatory policy and they will start using them.

How do people manage to get themselves into these predicaments? It's not like this was a high-density/elevated speed traffic situation. 5 MPH would have been sufficient for that traffic circle in a parking lot. 🙄🙄🙄

Could have been multiple reasons it’s unaware to us. Texting, medical emergency just not paying attention not sure!

Oh my. That's going to be an expensive clean up and repair bill to the drivers insurance company.

The foam is usually stored on a tanker truck and not a “fire” truck. Usually tankers are brought in with a compound solution that only a needs to be mixed with water
@lordfezzik12 сағат бұрын
tNot true. Engines often carry five gallon containers that use an eductor to mix with the water line going through the pump.

How
@tomstuart265212 сағат бұрын
There are hazardous chemicals in a transformer. The car is already a total loss. There is no collateral exposure. They are treating it appropriately.

Wow they have all kinds of bling and horns on their trucks, but no foam? 😳

They have all necessary equipment--they want to make it a bigger problem!
