I worked for Nissan in the late 1980/early 1990s and it was great company, their quality was almost as good as Honda and Toyota. After I left the company their senior management in Japan changed and it started to head down the toilet. Its connection to Renault certainly did not help it. I have occasionally considered buying one of their products in recent years, but they are no better than Kia or Hyundai now, hopefully their connection to Honda might help them out.

Sorry, but I don't think you have driven the Honda Civic Hybrid, before commenting on it. And you will be shocked at how much rear seat room is present in the Honda. Merry Christmas !

@@Flying-Fox19 I am not talking about some minor knick-knacks like a small feature here or there. I am talking about the total car, which is vastly superior to the Camry, in terms of driving dynamics. You drive both products back-to-back, and you will be shocked at how much more nimbler and planted is the Civic, vis-a-vis the Camry. Remember, the new generation Civic is based on the same platform as the larger Accord, unlike in the previous generations where they were 2 distinctly different platforms. That platform fusion, also bought with it additional refinement into the Civics, along with far more interior room than prior generations. PS: I don't own either of these. Just driven them, since I like to see what is out there. I personally have a 2022 Mercedes E450 All-Terrain Wagon and a 2024 Mercedes GLE450, along with a 2019 Honda Fit with a Stick-shift.

@@OBrandt-i5c I understand fully man, Civics do drive great with it's handling abilities. I have driven only the 2019 one and I am someone who drives cars like a race car. However there are people that just want to get from A to B and trust Toyota more also. Not many average drivers really care for driving dynamics so it wouldn't matter. They might see rear vents being more important for their kids to those hot summers. You put Max Verstappen in a lesser car with similar hp vs an average driver. Now, I can't imagine adding Honda (and don't forget Honda's links with General Motors) will solve anything. Oh - and how did it work for Stellantis?

Carlos Ghosn is what ruined Nissan. He turned Nissan into unreliable junk and the public finally caught on to his shenanigans. Before Carlos, Nissan was reliable but needed financial help. After Ghosn, Nissan was UNRELIABLE and still needs financial help.

The thing is apprehension regarding powertrain reliability. Generally people will choose torque converter over cvt in terms of reliability. The only way to address the same would be by providing lifetime powertrain warranty or provide resonable replacement cost . Honda being honda ,will never buckle into changing onto something other than cvt. So nissan joining Honda will make no difference.

Honda will have a positive influence on Nissan. Put Honda engines and transmissions into Nissan vehicles. The engineers at Honda can influence the mechanical parts to be quality parts. Not the cheap stuff Nissan is using. Use good quality steel treated with zinc for rustproofing. Nissan /Infiniti suffered from the Ghosn years of cost-cutting. Plus change the attitude of Nissan to stand behind their vehicle, not an attitude of you bought it your problem. For example, the Nissan Rogue is a nice-looking vehicle, a good size it is the engine and transmission issues that prevent smart consumers from buying it.

Honda/Toyota/Nissan/Mazda/Mitsubishi - few people realize that Japan has a totalitarian economic system where the government is heavily involved in the industries. It was why it was (in my opinion) very unfair for people buying cars from those countries to be so self righteous that GM-Ford-Chrysler (domestics in the day) were all so bad for relying on government to get them through hard times. Honda - old story - was told they could not make cars by in practice their government; and was why early on they relied heavily on exporting cars as they had very limited domestic access - isn't that hard to believe. As AI says, "When Honda first started making cars, the Japanese government imposed strict regulations on domestic sales to protect local industries and manage resources; as a result, Honda developed a strong international presence and reputation for quality and reliability. This is exactly what is going on now, the government (really) is forcing these companies to combine or "redeploy" and what you see from Honda is that history of being an outlier coming through a bit with not playing nice with government in making cars all those years ago.

Nissan GTR, Nissan Frontier, Nissan Z and Nissan Sentra…all these are coming with deep reliability and solidly built driveline….sure Nissan has many failed driveline on other models but not as disastrous as Hondas failed Turbos and V6 engines. Honda don’t even have a ladder frame, rear wheel drive platform. Lastly, Toyota Camry Hybrid is twice the better car and value compared to Honda Civic Hybrid. The quality of the materials (Plastics, door locks, door handles, electric windows system...) is really bad, but the 1.8 QG18DE petrol engine is bulletproof and capable of very high mileage and its a 100% Japanese design from the late 90´s, not the French Renault crap Nissan has been putting in their newer models. From what I have viewed on auto reviews, Nissan’s CVT transmissions were a problem area. I remember in the 90s, Kia was in trouble and the Korean government forced Hyundai to take them over. This isn’t exactly free market capitalism is it? The private sector isn’t interfered with. Has America been victimized by this? Is our manufacturing 7:28 segment at a disadvantage?
