I know two people that have had RAV4’s and both ended up with transmission problems. The reason for the 4 in the name is because it’s all wheel drive all the time. When you need a transmission repair in that, it’s like $4000-$5000+!!! Keep that in mind. Most Toyotas are awesome, but personally because of that, I would steer clear of the RAV4.

I only buy a car with a key. They have never failed me or cost me $300 for a battery replacement. Or have never not shut down because the push button doesn't work. The less bells and whistles to fail, like the slow foot operated rear hatch. Basic and reliable, thank you.

I've had THREE Kia's. I'll never go back. Even with a long warranty I've never had any issues. My middle of the road Sorento cost less than the base model of the Toyota equivalent with less options. People still think of Kia's as cheap, but if you actually do the research, they are better rated for safety.

Maddie, you should hold off on purchasing a new car. Wait until the dealerships get their inventory back up so they don’t try to price gouge. Get a Toyota hybrid. It will last a long time, low maintenance and the hybrid system will save you so much gas in the long run.

One thing to keep in mind about leather seats, is when your car is in the sunlight, your seats will get burning hot... Also, for the pricing of used cars, it's the same thing here in Canada, slightly used cars will cost more because you have the luxury of getting it right away instead of waiting 6 months or whatever the wait time is for a new order to arrive. Love your videos Maddy, keep up the good work!

Wow! You are a great sales woman...your car video descriptions are way better than other youtubers! Yes...the Toyota rav 4 is luxurious and after 3-5 years you can trade it in or sell for a lot more money! I bought the Kia Sportage to save a lot of money...I've had it for 16 years and it looks showroom new and is in excellent shape! Always change oil and filter every 2500 miles and transmission oil and filter every 20,000 no matter what! Then your car will last for a long time! Polish at least once a year with a good wax / cleaner!!! Yes, Kia is not as good as Toyota, and parts take longer to get! Only buy original parts! After market sometimes dont fit or dont work as well! Also learn to change a flat tire or pay for a roadside yearly service! It is worth it!!!! Awesome videos!!!!!

Hello Maddie. Like your videos. I used to drive for Uber in San Francisco, California. During that time, logged just under 150,000 miles in a Subaru Forester. Forester has a higher ceiling than the model you were looking at in video. Extra height made it easier to stack luggage high which came in handy during airport runs. To this day engine/transmission work fine. Still change engine oil every 5000 to 6000 miles using ONLY synthetic which is really slippery. Also, Subaru's high ground clearance helps avoid scraping on steep driveways and prevents bottoming-out when driving down a severe San Francisco hill. I've driven the Forester in Baja California and ground clearance helps when confronting potholes or those crazy steel ball speed bumps. On the negative side, I did have to replace the front axles at least twice and the rear axles once. But hey, after 150,000 miles of heavy-duty use carrying up to four adults, some being a bit portly, and their luggage up and down San Francisco streets, what can you expect. Also, being a bit porky myself, the right side of my knee rubs against the side of the center console making it necessary to adjust my seating position often. All other aspects of the car (hardware, paint, electronics, etc.) have been 99% flawless. Hope this helps. My best to you.

Another thing to look for in your new rav 4 is where it’s assembled. Look at the vin number outside at the bottom of the windshield on the drivers side. Hopefully the vin number starts with a J. That shows it’s assembled in Japan. Much better quality. People have complained about the transmission on your comments. The first year they had this body style in 2019 they had some problems with shifting judder. That has been corrected. Another car that’s also nice is the Corolla hatchback. It’s smaller easier to control and is cheaper and gets better gas mileage. My brother in law has one of these and gets 41 mpg on the highway and it’s fun to drive. Good luck

Maddie pleeease be super careful when you buy your car, especially if it's brand new. I recommend you have a group of good male friends keep a look out the entire time. My uncle was carjacked at gunpoint in Guadalajara by cartel members minutes after driving his new car off the lot (and he ended up having a nervous breakdown as a result). The gang members were watching him and my aunt buy the car and waited for them to drive off before it happened. The car dealership gave my uncle an insane deal on another car because they were so afraid of retaliation.
@L.Spencer Жыл бұрын
These things need to be taken into consideration. As I just commented, I wouldn't drive a newer, nice car in Mexico. You gotta be careful. But I don't have money, like nothing, so it wasn't an option for us. Of course, to an extent, you have to live and can't worry about everything that could happen.

I bought a 2015 RAV4, coming off a lease, in 2018 with about 25k miles on it and a full one year warranty. Had a minor transmission issue that was fixed by the dealer with no problems. Car now has 77K miles....I don't drive alot anymore, retired. No problems at all, will never buy anything other than Honda/Toyota forward, and both of my sons have picked up Toyotas as well for daily drivers. I would have bought the 2021 used and got them to extend the warranty another year or 2 if possible. Happy and safe driving.

I love Subie's up here in the snow where I live but I'd say in Mexico stick with Toyota. They are common and easier to get serviced. One more thing, given the roads of Mexico stick with smaller wheels with bigger tires. In other words you want more sidewall. If you hit a bump or pothole you have a good chance of denting the rim on the small sidewall tires.
@mjc42701 Жыл бұрын
Subaru's with awd are great for the desert, rough terrain and sand, I hope they bring the Baja back, that is my dream car/truck, I have a Toyota currently but owned a Legacy prior, I think Subaru is a notch above but when it comes to price you can get a Toyota for less and they are both great vehicles.

Maddie. Congrats on the new car. I will say your math on the hybrid vs. non is what most people do but it's a missing this point. Assuming you are going to eventually trade in your car - a hybrid will retain a higher value so paying more at first is basically a wash over the whole cycle of ownership. Hopefully this makes sense.

We bought a brand new Ford Ranger pickup 2 years ago. Similar situation except after we put the deposit down, 2 months later the exact truck we wanted arrived in the Yucatan(we are in Baja). In order for us to get the truck from the Yucatan, we had to wire the entire amount of the truck to the dealer. it took another 2 months to get the truck then when we got it the DMV was out of physical license plates. All in all it was definetly a different car buying experience. The cost savings was great and knowing that I am following the laws as a PR and not driving a US plated car is worth it.

excelent video, the car buying experience is crazy for the last 2 years. Make sure to shore up your warranties on drivertrain. Mexico has harsh roads and they will tax the drivetrain on the car. Test drive before you take delivery and plan a whole day to inspect the vehicle, look for PDI checklist and if you know a mechanic or someone mechanically inclined take them and treat for lunch.. From a toyota fan to another, Yotas are known for great reliability but will often cheap out on details like seat fabrics and interior plastics. Good luck

You made the right decision buying the regular RAV4 rather than the hybrid. Besides the obvious that you never get the money back for the extra price, what about maintaining and repairing what ever fails on the hybrid system? I bought new 2017 RAV4 XLE, in the Chicago area in March of 2017. At the time there was a $3500 rebate from Toyota and I paid $24,500. The car has 75,000 miles and so far, I have repaired nothing. We're shopping now for a Tacoma as "the last vehicle we'll ever buy" and we're experiencing the same price/availability issues you are with your purchase. Very smart getting a non hybrid. Your right it takes a long time to get the numbers to work out. Make sure you get one that has both sides 6way power seats. The passenger seat on the older rav 4 didn’t go up and down only back and forth and the ceiling height is low and it’s easy to hit your head on it. I was buying a 2021 rav 4 limited but backed out when I couldn’t sit on the passenger side. I’m only 5’9” and my head was right on the roof. I ended up getting a Honda crv they gave more headroom. The new rav 4’s have changed on the higher end ones to have both 6 way sests on both sides. Good luck. Toyotas are great.

They are the cheapest - price-wise, and they have a really great warranty (if they still have that). They are the most comfortable and easy to drive cars I’ve ever had. I know they don’t have the “luxury options” of the others, but that’s what my budget can stand. I’ve had pretty much NO mechanical problems (or any other problems)with my two cars, which I’ve had for a total of twenty years. If I get another car, I’ll undoubtedly get another KIA. Hi Maddie, I had a 2020 Rav4 Hybrid and it was a good vehicle. One issue that came up in my vehicle and my friend's Highlander was glitchy head units (stereo/gps system). Toyota may have JBL doing their speakers in many models. But the actual hardware is cheaply made. I sold my Rav4 at a premium price (due to the shortage of stock) and bought an EV that I'm very happy with. I notice the salesman keeps saying the gas is 'the same' NO its NOT! You'll spend a lot more on gas. You're doing the right thing shopping hybrid again. And I'd seriously put your name in for a Prime model Toyota and just wait until your number is up. Even if you buy another car in the meantime, you'll be able to make a profit selling the Toyota privately. Also make sure they sell you a VIN that starts with JP (made in Japan!). Thanks for the content as always!

I noticed a gold car at the Subaru dealership, and since your last car was tangerine (for Tangerine Travels). I vote for the gold Subaru model, for MaddieGold

Toyota is definitely the way to go, I have Toyota Tacoma with 300,000 miles and it’s still going strong.

You can never go wrong with a toyota. Nice car hope you get it fast, btw I also dislike digital speedometer but that's where most cars seem to be going.

I'm glad you picked Toyota you won't have issues for a long time.

I have and love my Hyundai Sonata hybrid limited, it has all the bells and whistles as you say, in those cold mornings I can heat up my seats and steering wheel lol, the sun roof goes all the way back, great gas mileage, a full tank will last about 2 weeks, on a full tank I can get over 560 miles, love it, you should checkem out

I know you have been looking for quite a while. My suggestion, (I live in Ecuador) is to check out what models taxis and successful tourism companies are using because I love Chev but my favourite taxi driver loves KIA because of the accessibility of parts and quick repairs.

And to add to that, when you are looking for vehicles, like accomadations, find what suits you. The back seat is a plus for room.

I asked many, many taxi drivers in Mexico City what car they would recommend. They always asked, "for work or for my personal car?" For work it was always a cheap one with very low gas milage that they wouldn't mind getting banged up on a regular basis.

Over 5 years ago I was thinking about buying a Prius but like you I also did the math and to come even for a gas version it would be almost 11 years. Right now I own a 2015 Honda Fit Sport and I'm extremely happy with it. I'm getting 44pmg in the highway and 38/40 city and this car is extremely reliable. 🙂

I love my 2021 rav4 hybrid..runs like a champ..zero issues rattles or squeaks. They were so much in demand I had to put a deposit and wait 2 months. Good luck on your search.

What I like about buying a vehicle in Mexico is that's the price, no games.

I think I like the highest end RAV4 the best too in Cherry Red! 2nd would be a Subaru. The Kias just looked so cheap like you pull the door handles few times and it falls off cheap. You seems like the type of person who takes care of their car too.

Just remember she was comparing a 17k car to a 37k car. And since I've sold Toyotas and Kias the build quality is comparable.

Hey Maddie, I think any of the Toyota, Mazda, Subaru are all good brands. Just one word of advice on the push to start. These cars are extremely easy to steal. All you need is a software to initiate and the car will start automatically without the key fob. I live in Canada and there's an average of 10 to 20 of these cars being stolen every single night. I know all of the bells and whistles are so sexy but I would stay away from push start to start. Just Google what I'm writting about push-to-start and you'll see what I am trying to help you be aware of. All the best with your car shopping!

I love cars, since I was 3 years old, but BUYING a car can be so aggravating. A friendly salesman makes a difference.
@brianyori5753 Жыл бұрын
Think about where your car will be repaired. How close is that place to your home. Your monthly cost with gas, insurance. Plus how easy is it to steal your car. .

Great in depth review of cars and features. I had same issues with my car buying experience in NY. Wanted 2022 Hyundai Tuscon but 3 month waiting period and put a deposit down on a car I couldn't even test drive. I went to a Mazda dealership test drove a CX-5 had the car bought same day and after almost 1 year I'm happy with my purchase. It's tough to decide but Toyota is one of the preferred cars by Uber drivers in NYC.

Girl...keep checking...❤❤ as they come in some people can't Finance the rest or they cancel the order and you get a car... But keep checking every couple days..... and don't buy the used one they're taking advantage of people by doing that... They're capitalizing on people's needs. On my way to Starbucks on Saturday I stopped at a Toyota dealer and found a gray one that someone canceled, I was looking for silver or dark grey but I can live with this gray and I got a blow MSRP!

I will never put down a deposit on a car I have never seen or had checked out & especially not when told you will possibly lose your deposit if you don't take the car. For goodness sakes, YOU are the customer--you make the demands, not them!!! And you don't even get to dictate the color??? Forget it!! These dealers are monsters.
