An excellent video, thank you. This shows that some of the bulbs are ok, but it's the reflectors that must be designed around the LED bulb. A generic LED bulb with its different design styles, different focus points, will not work correctly in just 'any' reflector. They must be designed together. This holds true for the HID conversion kits as well.

Congratulations!!... this is a very good video and demonstrate that the LED bulbs for headlamps that not have glass projector is not a good idea for the security and traffic in the streets. Thanks. The aftermarket automotive LED it must improve the design of the bulbs and make exhaustive tests so that they reflect correctly inside the headlight to comply with the global regulations on traffic and automotive safety.

Thanks for this video! It is rare to see a comparison of this type of product and done correctly. I have Phillips 12953BWX2 H4's in my car, they seem to do a decent job, good cutout line and absolutely no glare. The only issues I had are the heatsink that doesn't fit inside the headlight and the headlights covered under heavy snow (snow doesn't melt).
@TheAussieStig308 жыл бұрын
Wow, at last someone does a proper comparison, rather than shooting a video in the daytime with headlights on and forming the conclusion the LED's are whiter. I have just bought a new car and will be upgrading headlights, I use H4 and H7, and have previously used HID which are brilliant, however, I think LED may be the better way to go now. I'm going to buy a new pair of headlights and convert over to projector lights as well, chick should make a large difference and I may not need such a bright light to get such a good result. The first gen LED's were just terrible, and a lot of them are wired incorrectly as well, which is likely the issue you are having. Thanks for the review.
@denniskwok76138 жыл бұрын
Great vid and very informative. It should be noted however, that LED bulbs like this aren't really suitable for reflector type headlights which are designed for use with halogen bulbs. LED headlight bulbs are really only suitable for housings which have a fully-enclosed compartment for the bulb and send the light through a projector lens to focus the beam.
@theminicooper8 жыл бұрын
Nice Video! Thank you! but I do believe the bulbs aren't in right. We can see at 11:13 that the bulb is separated vertically... Usually bulbs are separated horizontally... Shinning the upper portion for low beam and the lower portion of the reflector for high beam. I believe if it could be adjusted to be horizontally, you would have a much better cutoff.
@arnoldanderson15018 жыл бұрын
To add to this , a complete headlight system isn't cheap, over $600. US, but the result is better than some HID systems, but instant on as well.

Great video. I was in the market for a new bulbs and wasn't sure about the whole LED thing. Now I have a little more information when considering what type of bulbs to install in my Jeep. I want maximum light but I still want to be considerate to other drivers.

I didn't have this problem with my LED headlights, maybe the difference is my headlight lenses, my low beam is quite cut off and sits low. I do find that they don't handle long distance very well though.
@otharavarkan8 жыл бұрын
The third LED is mounted wrongly, low beam should be facing upper side of the reflector and high beam should be looking downwards. that way you would have a better lines on the door but as good as the halogen bulbs. This is mainly because of the bulb styles and since these bulbs are more powerful they will bounce more rays from the reflector and that causes the bottom side of the reflector get illuminated more. For HID's and for LED's you should have a lens to be able to have focus the beam or to have same effect as halogen bulbs. One more note, is that the LED and HID lenses are different.

It looks like you have the bulb the wrong way in at 11:10 - 11:15. it's supposed to sit horizontally in the reflector, so that the low-beam led lights up the top half of the reflector, and high-beam lights the bottom half. This bulb sits vertically and effectively turns the spread pattern 90° counter - clockwise in this case.

Good to see someone testing a variety of Leds.. one thing I strongly disagree with this video is the car you chose to test the led lamps. the majority of H4 headlamps in cars out there have extra reflectors that cover the globe inside the light itself. had you used a car with that setup it would have reduced the glare being thrown up into oncoming traffic. So viewers, don't be turned off by leds :) cheers

If you are going to use an LED headlight bulb, you must use the proper LED reflector, otherwise as shown, the light beam scatters every where. I bought a complete headlight system and the cutoff pattern is perfect.

I agree with some comments. The orientation of bulb 3-4 is incorrect. U must fit it so the light faces up on low beams and bottom is high beam. Other than that, best review video on internet. On this note, has anyone here any experience with H7? The are mostly independent on orientation because you have 2 separate reflectors. Anyone?

Hello I have a question regarding the Led H4 headlights. I have installed some Led headlights in my Toyota. The headlights seems to point to much upwards and doesn't light up the road at all. The wierd thing is that there is no problem, when I install some normal H4 Halogen in the Toyota. So my question is: Have you had the same problems with the LED lights that you bought? Why is it that Halogen lights work fine, but the LED lights doesn't? Can you maybe send a link to the H4 LED you have bought. The ones I have is 60/50 Watt, Hig/Low, 6000 Lumen, and think its around 6200Kelvin. I also have another problem because the led lights I bought have a cooling element attached to the rear and a fan to cool it down. The problem is however that the rubber membrane which is installed "after" the headlights doesn't fit, because the "hole" in the membrane is to small. Do you know any LED headlights which takes this to account? Hope you can help ;-)

At 11:53 you can see that the bulb is oriented wrongly. Dipped beam side should be up so it reflects down onto the road, but it appears there to be aligned to the left and right. Did all of the bulbs get installed 90° out, or only that one? Also, since the bulbs are keyed to only go in one way, perhaps they weren't installed all the way? This will mess up the reflection too, as the 'filament' will be in the wrong place for the reflector
@JasonSobell8 жыл бұрын
Oh, and I would say that despite this, this is an excellent video. Thanks you, very good work, and great not to see some useless view of the front of a car. It's a shame the garage door was not a matt colour to show the spread better :)

Yeah I noticed that too, I was writing a comment but then I saw yours. I guess they got it wrong while manufacturing because normally H4 sockets only fit how they're supposed to fit in. I've seen cheap (well not that cheap but accessible to most people) and well manufactured LEDs in a similar configuration and I can say they worked well and did not blear as much as fitting HID bulbs into normal reflectors (btw I hate people who use those that way, you can see nothing if raining).

These LED bulbs, are only fog-light or daylight bulbs, and will not work as headlights low-beam. And in that reflector you need a H4 LED bulb with low-beam cutoff. This tester are testing wrong type bulbs in the headlights!!!!!! The new best test bulbs of 2018 works better, but you have to buy the right bulbs for your lamp. Some work in reflector lamp headlights, other not. and Fog light bulbs only in fog-light or daylight lamps.

I think qasqdk simply ignored that he could remove the H4 mounting plate from the bulb. You need to do that in order to be able to remount the dust cover of the light so I suppose the operators in the factory did not care about the orientation of the leds in relation with the mounting plate. I link the first video I found where it is shown simply and clearly: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpithWuwl7plpqM When inserting the bulb on the installed plate the leds that are on with headlight on must point upward. High beam uses also the other led that points downward.

I did see that other people Mount their LEDs with the low beam facing down I wonder if that would fix your scattering problem. your first high power LED was mounted vertical with the low beam on the left high beam on the right when it should be horizontal with the low beam on the bottom in the high beam on the top this would mimic more of the halogen pattern with low beam facing out and down and high beam would be 360 degrees. this is a failed demonstration
