Unfortunately, stealerships are still up-charging for service/repairs on cars. I needed to have my alternator replace, and the dealership wanted $1,800. I found a repair manual online and found out that it isn't that hard to do it myself. I bought a remanufactured alternator for $350 and did it myself. Dealership prices on everything is literal pure bullshit.
@AK.__ Жыл бұрын
Each contractor, mechanic or any other specialist will try to charge top dollar for their services. Doubtfully that you'd agree to work for low rate. Same dealerships. Try to estimate real time of alternator replacement plus a cost of brand new part plus fees here and there and you will receive more or less asked by them price. They might upsell though or do unnecessary work (extra money), but if you'll find the honest ones, you will not need to do car repairs by yourself any more.
@michigan_supercars6569 Жыл бұрын
@@AK.__ Your answer is the dumbest thing I've heard in a long time. So I guess you're just ok with a dealership charging $500+ over for a part just in the name of "tOp dOlLaR!" and "sErViCe". And no dip sherlock, I did calculate the time and effort of installing the alternator and it doesn't make sense. All of the places I called said it was a 2.5 hr job and the pay for that actually does make a lot more sense than the bullshit price they charge for their parts. You answer just shows your lack of knowledge of anything about this and it's really sad and pathetic to be honest.

W H A T? 1800? I recently changed my clutch and starter which is honestly a lot of work (lifting the engine, pulling out the starter, then the gearbox and the clutch) and it cost me 700€ (~780$). How the fuck did they come up with 1800
@AK.__ Жыл бұрын
@@deBussyLicker It very depends on specific cases, mechanic and overall dealership rules and atmosphere. I was quoted $1000 (!!!) for cosmetic work as grill replacement and part. Part costs $300, the rest of the work I can do myself in 1.5 hours. But dealer says "no, it very complex, we have to send the car to our body shop"....... I've done the work in the other dealer for $400 overall.

I feel a huge problem we have as a society now is partially clout culture seeping into mainstream culture, but also having an impulsive buyers market. Since we had a "Car Shortage" people felt inclined to purchase now because it might not be available later. It felt very real when PS5's came out and you saw all those people scalping the prices on ebay. Thing is people were paying those prices no matter the fact everyone online said not to buy it. Impulse purchases were very prevalent in 2020 and 2021. The issue I'm seeing is that mentality is still there even though the availability is going up. The demand never went down when the supply started going up.

As far as I know, CarGurus doesn't "project" prices. They use the prices dealers are putting on them, to create a "trend line" using Price vs Mileage for each model year. This creates a function that can predict the value. But it is crucial to understand that the price drops are initiated by the dealers. May sound counter intuitive, but if a dealer can sell a car faster by showing them as "Great Value" and unlock their capital to get more inventory, they'll drop the price.

Still get slightly irked about the fact i couldve bought an RX-8 for 2,500 at a dealership as the AVERAGE price in the vicinity 2 years ago. They're still above 7,000 in my area, but thank god they're finally below 5 figure price tags

Sold our 991.2 Carrera S for $94k 2 weeks ago. Prices are going down fast and was surprised they offered that much when our next highest offer is $89K. Heck, I seen a used 992 Carrera S going for ~115k.

I do regret buying my c5 in 2021 during peak prices (paid 17k), but i have put 20k miles on it since and thoroughly loved every second of it. I could probably get at most 14k for it now, which isn't terrible.

Been looking to pick up a car that's light on my tank for daily use. Definitely waiting a year for things to fully drop so I can buy a hybrid and nearly quadruple my gas mileage. I'll def miss the Northstar under the hood but I can't be blowing near $100 a week on gas.

This is true with everything, even housing, there has been a steady decline of housing pricing over the past few months, its not much but its noticeable. Just hold out for a few more months as long as nothing catastrophic happens and things will be priced in a fashion it makes sense again.

I've really wanted to get my hands on a 2011-2014 mustang with a 3.7 v6 and a manual, since I'm under 25 a 5.0 or 4.6 would be absurdly expensive to insure, but a 3.7 still makes 300hp and would only cost $300 a month to insure and it gets good mileage. Except I can't actually get one because every single clean car meeting those criteria in my area are listed on Facebook marketplace for between 13,000 and 17,000 dollars. It's insane. I just hope that by the time I turn 25 in 2028 and my insurance rates go down, I'll be able to buy a 2022 GT for less than 30 grand

@hondaboi_7578 it's nice, rwd is fun, it talks to the road a decent bit less than a civic, and it gets like half the fuel econ (but like v8 is better than good fuel consumption anyway) Tldr i love it, but it's just about the exact opposite of a honda civic in everything

I wonder if the >25yr Kei imports are gonna see the drop, despite never having really seen a rise. I've been wanting to get something among the Kei trucks and vans for a long time, and if they start consistently showing under $2000 I might, in some fever dream, be able to afford one. Sadly, Honda BEATs and similar are very unlikely to drop within that range, given they've been averaging closer to $10-15K where the trucks and vans have been averaging more along $3.5-4K.
@bubbleman2002 Жыл бұрын
Consider elevated service costs and down time with ownership because of the lack of parts availability. It may be cheap to buy, but it would not be cheap to own, given its size.
@kmemz Жыл бұрын
@@bubbleman2002 From what I've seen, parts are pretty widely available on most of them. Especially the more popular ones, like the Subaru Samber trucks and vans. Also, I have seen some maintenance videos on these things. Despite their small size, they aren't very mechanically cramped, if at all. About as much free space in the engine bays of these things as what's left over in a V8 F150, if not a little more.
