The 2011 Hyundai Sonata has a problem where the engine seizes without warning. The average repair cost is about $5,000 and the average mileage at the time of seizing is around 90,000 miles. A class action lawsuit in 2015 found the 2.4-liter engine to be defective.

Glad Hyundai discontinued those troublesome Theta engines in the Sonata's (2011-2019). Now we have to see how this new generation of Smartstream engines (2020+) hold up over time.

As a Lexus guy I'm trying to justify what I spent when I watch the reviews. I have not seen the car in person, but loaded at 35k is certainly from a money standpoint makes some sense compared to what I laid out. So the question kinda becomes is the extra cost justified in refinement, quality, and luxury? I suppose that's an individual choice, but your excellent and unbiased reviews help us make those considerations and comparisons. I know that the Lexus line is thought boring etc. by many, and their opinion is valid for them. I just think the overall combination of everything from driving dynamics, service, resale, and the "feel" of quality of Lexus in totality is worth the money to me. Keep doing what your doing, honesty is not always going to get you invited to parties, but it does keep guys like me waiting for your next video. Excellent review.

Lexus IS a far superior product hell a Honda Accord is better I just like driving this car but it’s not perfect. Lexus IS a lot of bang for the buck. Most worship Lexus for reliability but that is not why I like the brand at all, I like Lexus because of the drive. Which car do you have Jeff?

To me its kinda the best of all worlds, if kids, luggage, grandkids, groceries are involved the RX is great, third seat is not much use honestly, if your rolling somewhere nice, the LS is a pleasure to drive, and when you just want to think or take a ride with your lady, the old porsche is very analog, has good smells, and is just fun, and mine with proper care has been a pleasure. Great review. I appreciate the fact you are not beholden to any manufacturer or dealership. I'm convinced it is a more honest take. Hyundai and Kia are definitely stepping up their game. But they still have a long way to go to compete with the Toyotas, Hondas, Mazdas and even Subarus. I cannot get my head around the gloss Black in high traffic areas. For me it spoils everything. I recently bought the Honda Civic sport touring, nice review on that car by the way. They at least put it in areas you don't have to touch. I would love to see it banished all together. Thanks again and happy motoring.

I guess it's a struggle for carmakers to differentiate themselves from others, Or it seems that cars are just converging on a single, somewhat bland "ideal." I suppose this Hyundai has some styling that some might think is fancy. Maybe it's nicer or turns heads, but at the end of the day, you want function over form. I'm still not convinced that Hyundai has the function down entirely, as you discuss regarding windshields. But all carmarkers are chasing the costs down, so can't single out Hyundai. Recalls happen regularly to most brands. I like your idea of sticking to the standard models from Hyundai.

The catfish grill is ugly to some, beautiful and aggressive to others. But it is not elegant an neutral. It is divisive. Like Lexus. Grills that are not elegant and neutral turn off (some) buyers. Like the old sonata limited turbo where you can have a car that had a beautiful sunroof a camel interior no longer do you have the heated seats in the rear like my 2015.
