Car Seat Headrest's Twin Fantasy: Young Love and Romanticization

My first attempt at delving into a video essay for the cult classic indie rock album Twin Fantasy by Car Seat Headrest.
This video analyzes Twin Fantasy as if it were a fictional story, even if I do discuss some meta elements, as it's kind of hard to properly discuss an album so outwardly personal and meta without touching on those pieces. Do not think anything I say here is some deep psycho-analysis of Will Toledo or the person he was with, I'm analyzing the ALBUM. Thank you.

Hi there! If you're reading this, thanks for checking this video out. I just wanted to take some time to mention the editing style, which might seem a little choppy. I promise it's all purposeful, but if you have any constructive criticism about this video, please leave it down here in the comments, thanks!

holy shit this analysis is so good. i don't think i've seen anyone so accurately show how messy of a song bodys is, especially with how the song sounds so much like something out of the climax of a romance film. also i like how you hit the nail on the head on why famous prophets hits so hard, and i didn't see how dysfunctional cute thing really is too before this vid. this was a really good watch, and i also like how you ordered everything to show exactly the narrative seen in mtm. especially since at first it seems like a romantic type of album but when you go through it again you can see bits and pieces already of how dysfunctional it actually is in the former songs. thank you for this vid.

Man, I didn't know this album was this deep. I normally never pay attention to the lyrics mostly because I can't really understand what they're saying. I just really liked the instrumentation and how the vocals sound quite angsty. I love albums like these, make me feel emotions I've never felt and probably won't feel in my life. One of the best albums I've listened to.

This was genuinely incredible man, I've always loved this album (2018 version) but didn't realize how perfectly executed of a concept album it is. I fucking love concept albums, you have given me an entire new appreciation for this album. I do have a bit of a question tho, I can understand why you would return to the 2011 version for the lyrics because it probably paints a better picture of the concept since wills feelings were more relevant since they were sooner. However, do you actually listen to the 2011 version? Personally, I just can't, it sounds like utter shit lol, I'm a huge audiophile, and another reason I adore the 2018 version is the mixing, it sounds truly incredible on a proper sound system, especially the interchanging part in sober to death.
@quoteth
@quoteth Жыл бұрын
On occasion, yes! But I more often listen to the 2018 version for the exact same reason. I just view the 2011 version as an amazing companion piece to the updated version, and for this video specifically, I used the 2011 version because in order to really understand the 2018 version's lyrics, you kind of need to analyze the 2011 version imo. I'm really really glad I could give you a whole new appreciation of the album though!! It completely deserves all the praise it gets.
@spinyjr
@spinyjr 8 ай бұрын
I feel completely the opposite. I discovered the 2011 version in 2015 around a time when I was going through a lot of the same emotions and experiences this album talks about. It really felt like something truly new and something only possible through the internet and this new era of self released music. it wasn't another album made by someone in there late 20s or 30s to appeal to teens, It was an album made by someone experiencing youth in the first person, in the present tense. The 2017 version to me feels like a cover album. It's not bad but doesn't feel like the same album at all to me. Makes me sad because the original is one of my favorite albums of all time. overall I think its a much more powerful work of art that gets overshadowed by the remake.

I have never really took the time to analyze the lyrics I've been listening to all this time. This is beautifully said in so many ways that I can't even think about. I think after watching this video I'll be listening to these songs differently and thinking about different things than before. Like, I didn't even think the songs were related!! I just thought the repeated verses were just catchy or something to will LMAO. Amazing vid and I'll definitely be watching your other vids. subed! Criticisms: Tbh I loved everything, the only thing is maybe invest in a better mic! or change ur mic settings or something.
@quoteth
@quoteth Жыл бұрын
I'm so glad I could paint it in a new perspective for you! I'm aware the mic isn't the best quality 😭 I'm fresh out of HS, gap year, no job, so it might be a bit before I can improve that, but I'm making do with what I can for now. So thankful you could enjoy this video despite it though! And as for the P.S.c I blurred out the name simply because it's omitted as well in the lyric books of the new physical releases of the 2011 version like the vinyl or the CD. I kinda did it for the same reason as that removal was for, I didn't really find it necessary to attach the actual person Will wrote this about to the art and my analysis of it, that's all!!

I really am excited for your review on the 2018 remake, I'm not very good about media analysis but when comparing the two it felt to me that the 2018 version was made from the perspective of a more mature and emotionally wise Will looking back on his experience with a greater understanding of what he went through. But it also feels more detached despite the firmer grasp on the concept of his emotions and memories. I really really like to 2018 version of the album, especially famous prophets (stars)
