The dedication is insane. Love your work Alex Also didn't know camber affected how the car looks, really cool. Wish they could do the same to wings like Monza rear wings are smaller and monaco wings are bigger. Suggest that to Codies for F1 24, PLEASE!

MAIN INFO FROM THE TESTS & VIDEO and HOW TO REDUCE THE TYRE WEAR and still be fast: - WINGS: higher = less tyre wear lower = more tyre wear compromise (find the best balance to yourself) for better laptime - DIFFERENTIAL: as low as possible = faster lap & similar tyre wear (than max) * - CAMBER: high or low = about the same laptime & tyre wear best to be around the middle * - TOE: higher = less wear, but slower laptime best to be around the middle - SUSPENSION: as soft as possible (not necessarily at minimum though) = best laptime and same wear as in the middle * - ANTI-ROLL BARS: the firmer the better = less wear and better laptime - RIDE HEIGHT: as low as possible without bottoming out (hitting the kerbs and/or track bumps) too much - BRAKE BIAS: about 55%-60% in most cases * - TYRE PRESSURES: lower = less tyre wear, but slower laptime best to compromise near the middle, but tending to go as low as possible as well * = Elements that make the biggest difference in terms of tyre wear without making a big difference in laptime

Very interesting, especially with the tyre pressures. On F1 2021 especially I remember running the pressures very high because that resulted in less wear so long as you didn’t overheat the tyres. The intuition behind this is that when the tyres are pumped up their surface area decreases as it’s generally a ‘tighter’ surface so there’s less friction and therefore less wear. So either they’ve changed it and made the tyres more slidy with more pressure in the tyres, or max pressures at Silverstone cause overheating.
@NLR_Knuth
@NLR_Knuth Жыл бұрын
You've pretty much said it. It was already a topic last game with the tires losing a ton of grip on higher pressures even if you have less wear and no overheating, and this game the optimal pressure window is even lower because you basically have no tire wear advantage on higher pressures anymore, mainly due to overheating but also because the grip issues only get worse as the tires get older and you're never gonna make up that disadvantage because the more you slide, the more tire wear you'll have

This is a great first test but IMO is still missing a few things that will be important for race day. Front vs rear wear plays a huge role in how the car handles over a stint, and temperatures are also important to get right as they affect grip and tyre wear. Suspension stiffness will affect this both in how much you use one side vs the other, and how much temp goes into the surface. It really is invaluable to get into a practice session, check front vs rear temps and wear, and adjust accordingly.
@NLR_Knuth
@NLR_Knuth Жыл бұрын
If there's one tip that I can give to people who want to learn how to build setups, it's that finding a balance that feels good to you will almost always be more important than what's "supposed to be" better. Some people like it more aggressive and can handle the twitches and slides, others may prefer a more stable suspension or lower tire pressures to make sure that they get consistently good times without the high risk of ruining everything with just one or two snaps of oversteer. The TT setups are a good starting point but in a proper race you usually want to make the car feel a lot more natural and safe to drive if that makes sense. Especially now that TT setups are made for sliding on the brakes, which you don't want pretty much anywhere outside of TT

Consistent High Speed Cornering is worst on Tyres. Rear Toe - Increases rear Stability (Less sliding) Front Toe - More responsive (Less steering input). Less consistent lateral forces through the tyres maybe. Even tho the tyres are dragged on straights, that is the least stressful moment.
@AlexGillon
@AlexGillon Жыл бұрын
This seems like a plausible explanation!

with throttle input being one of the most difficult parts of playing on a pad, i've always resorted to a few clicks on the rear toe. without it, im burning the tires in low speed corners (baku). it's what i mess with most in my practice programs to get the best compromise.
@jedimarz1225
@jedimarz1225 Жыл бұрын
@@bradleyg1192 I play on pad too but I'm fairly good with Throttle. I like that you mention 'Compromise' cos it's not respected in game. Rear Toe will help Traction but at more cost than anything else apart from Wing/Drag. I've been trying to explain to people its not always a lack of Traction in slow speed. But Aggressive throttle with TOO Soft suspension causes you to Bottom & lose all Downforce. People try to Maximise Mechanical Grip too much which isnt good for Aero cars.

amazing work! what I'm wondering now is how the "lower tyre wear setup" affects the tyre temperatures long term. because the tyre wear might be better in one single lap but the tyre temps seem to settle in only after 5 laps or so. and if the tyre temps are constantly too high it’s not beneficial for tyre wear. hope you know what i mean. keep the good work up 👍🏻

Awesome Video. I think the highlights for me are that you shouldn't run 1-1 anti roll bar. I was surprised about your tire pressure findings. I have found that more pressure will help tire wear as long as you don't overheat the tires. Your default setup and high pressure setup may have been cooking the tires. I have a yt video about pressure and tire wear on a test i did in Qatar.
@NLR_Knuth
@NLR_Knuth Жыл бұрын
This, and I'm honestly kinda surprised that he didn't think of this. Yes, lower tire pressures are the meta in this game (mainly bc the difference isn't as big as in previous games where you'd run max tire pressures before they changed the way that overheating affects the grip, in 2021 and early 2022 I believe it was the meta) but generally speaking you're gonna get more tire wear if they overheat, and the higher pressures make the car less grippy (which you especially feel on older tires) which means that, despite the initial advantage, you're gonna struggle more and more to keep the car stable and that'll affect the wear much more than any kind of setup change you could possibly make

Ive been running very stiff springs compared to others. And found i can run stiffer rear ARB than i thought. Softer ARB better in slower corner exits. But car is lazy, bottoms & snaps when it goes. Stiffer allows me to rotate the car before accelerating. No bottoming & better in High Speed. I seem to have longer lasting stints than others on TT setups

From my understanding, increasing the toe helps with tire wear through the corners because the deeper the corner the “straighter” the tires are throughout the corner on account of the toe angle they have… when they’re straighter(more perpendicular to the turn angle) they “slide” through the turns more instead of rotating through them. To summarize, the toe helps keep tires on line and rotating through corners…. I think…. 😂

not entirely sure silverstone was the best track to do this on. Things like camber etc are (theoretically) supposed to help lap time more on lower speed corners, which silverstone doesn't really have much of. Realistically, a comparison to monaco or hungary would have been a more complete methodology

Love your analysis dude! :-) I haven't tested setups so much, but I've noticed it's ok to go with TT setups to at least 25% races without issues - unlike in F1 22... What I've noticed is that my own driving style is quite tyre saving in races and most of the time I can gain time against my opponents in the long run. Could also be because better ERS management, but haven't analyzed it too deep 😀 Would love to join you in the ranked lobbies sometime 🙂

it makes sense that you dont lose that much tyre wear with the TT setup. You mess up your tyres over time because it makes your tyres overheat very quickly, even with low pressures. if you do only do 1 lap TT setups are obviously gonna be strong

Did you have tyre temperature simulation on when testing the pressures? If yes, the increased wear is almost surely from the overheating, not the pressures. Higher pressures decrease tyre wear.
