I love it that somehow in that drivers mind, going back and forth TWICE between railroad crossings will somehow shed light to the problem. Just glad that any train didn't hit it while performing that incredibly dangerous maneuver.

if they had trackside ramps at the crossings anyone who inadvertently drove onto the track would be able to drive off. I see the recovery driver made a ramp for the car to be pulled up he then drove it off the crossing. Making a permanent ramp would allow any silly car driver to do the same. And be much safer with less disruption to rail traffic. Alternatively make it like La Grange.

It would seem that better street lights illuminating the actual crossing pavement, and a wide white or yellow line on each side of the crossing platform to "bracket" the crossing surface in a fashion much like the sides of a bridge, would help avoid this at very little cost.

I think Fairport is 2, or was one of them in December...I liked the one in Fairport where the driver just kept going up over the rails and got off (finally) and just took off like nothing ever happened. I wonder how much damage he did underneath the car.

Maybe they can put crossing gates across the tracks? This way no one can drive on the tracks... and when the train comes through the gates go from down to up, opposite of what the gates on the street do. Just time them so they do the opposite of each other??? They could also try to paint lines on the street to follow if turning right or left at this crossing???
