Hi, I left a couple of comments on Hoovie's wesite . The door sag is easily fixed by tightening the torsion bars for the doors. The gas struts are really only shock absorbers they will never carry the weight of the doors. If you remove the rear louvers, and the slotted valance above the rear window, you can access the torsion bar holder clips and the torsion bars themselves. Of course this is from the engine compartment, working toward the front of the car Tighten the torsion bars till they just hold the door weight with no sag on a cold day. Some deloreans have a little fuel door flipper access door, so you didn't need to open the door. By the way, I have the original parts and service manuals. Cheers, Ken

@jsloden1
@jsloden1 6 жыл бұрын
Sorry Ken but no, blown struts will definitely cause the doors not to go up properly. Ask me how I know. I assure you that you will never see a Delorean door go up without the strut attached to it. If you do then the torsion bar is way over torqued border line breaking. Have you checked the price of one of those lately. Just replace the struts.
@junekth
@junekth 6 жыл бұрын
Ok, well, the problem with only replacing the struts, is that they are gas struts. They are subject to heat and cold. If you Rely upon the strut, the door opens lazily but fully in warmer months, and conks you in the head in the winter. The doors are very heavy. Hence the recommended (in the manual) service procedure to tighten the torsion bars. Also the speedometer is driven by a nylon cup, over the hub on the driver side wheel. The square speedometer input gets stripped, that is the input to the angle drive, and the cable shown on “what is wrong with my Delorean” video. The fix is to machine a metal insert or sleeve. Sometimes the angle drive builds up solidified grease and strips the plastic drive. Anyway, best of luck.
@jsloden1
@jsloden1 6 жыл бұрын
Kenneth Hittson hot and cold don’t really have much of an effect it the struts are in good shape. Had mine for two years without issue. Never had to adjust the torsion bars. The fact of the matter is that adjusting the bars isn’t going to take the place of bad struts. Also, they now make much better angle drives than they used to. Also recommend using gear oil instead of grease in them and you shouldn’t have a problem. Using this method for two years now as well. Go on the forums to look up information now. A lot of those service manuals are at least 35 years old now. There are now updated parts and procedures which are much better in a lot of cases.

One of my favorite recent "fixes" was on a Ford 4.6L V8 with a misfire issue. Turned out that the connectors on several of the coils were damaged and would no longer clip on. Took two zip ties, one around the coil, one around the connector, interlinked them and pulled taught. Works great and cheaper than connectors or a wiring harness.

Yup, getting me a shirt payday. Why? I support local business such as the Wizard, and I like the guy. The Bob Ross of Automotive Masters. Asides from that, I gotta support my local guys from Kansas. Funny story, I've been chasing an electrical issue for a non-working gas guage for six months. (I'm not good with electrical) so, I take it to R&A automotive electric here in Salina and the guy pinpoints it to be a bad cluster. I go to the junkyard and get the cluster I need and slap it in. Works just fine now. The guy didnt even charge my for looking at my Blazer. That's what I call a good person, so I decided to pay it forward and put gas in random people's cars.

The boot of the Delorian reminds me to the seal of the gastank of my Audi a6 caravan. When I pulled it out I saw, that it was deteriorated very badly. I stopped the repair got a new seal and finalized it. I believe it is the fuel that starts ot take these seals appart. Mine was in there for about 20 years. The end of the story is, that You have to very much replace all the seals in the fuel system. Great video, thanks very nuch Roland from good old Germany

This thing needs an LS swap! As for crazy rigged fixes, the one that pops to mind for some reason at this moment is a time I was taking the missus out for a fun ride in the country on my 1970 BMW R 75/5, when it just up and died. I found that the distributor rotor had simply come off, it's bolt was simply gone! In her typically blonde fashion, she was chewing bubblegum, ever so blondely... I asked if she'd let me borrow it. She shrugged and gave it to me, and I glued the rotor back in with the bubblegum, and it got us all the way home, and it proceeded to get me to the shop where I could order a new bolt, which they actually had in stock, luckily! Good times. Sort of.

The brakes went out, line rusted and I just clamped a pair of vise grips on the line until I could get it fixed. I was careful though driving because you just never know. It worked though until I fixed it. Thanks for sharing. No sense in doing anything unless you do it right. Hoovie will be happy, lol. Ka-ching.

Haha, this so reminds me of how my Saab was when I got it. Pre-pump wasn't hooked up, the EFI pump (too small for the K-jet boot) was shimmed with an elastic exercise band, a hose was run from the pump down to near the bottom of the tank, and the same goo on the boot. Nasty!

😀 yay, are u going to drop the tank and wash it out? in the engine bay see if it has any Air Hoses, on audi's they crack all the time and cause Vacuum Leaks, a vacuum leak really fks up driveability because the mechanical fuel distributor needs a tight air seal for the fuel arm to swing up and down properly. Also pull out the fuel iniectors and install all new orings and sleeves, and chk to see if they all spray properly ✌😏🚙🚚🚛

I got in my VW Rabbit in Denver to go home to Pueblo. I could smell gas pretty bad when I started the car. I opened the hood and I could see gas spraying out of the middle of a fuel injection hose. I went to the BX and got some electrical tape, and some super glue. I doused the tape as I wrapped it onto the leaking fuel line. I wrapped it as tight as I could without snapping the tape. I made it to Pueblo, got a new fuel line from VW, and put it on. The VW guy was very surprised that the fix worked.

I've seen belts in tape decks and VCR's turn into that sticky tar like stuff like that boot. It happens with age to old rubber for some reason. I've repaired some vintage tape decks by replacing those sticky old gummy belts some times they are so sticky that it's pure gum that is stuck fast to the parts and just sticks to your fingers. and it's hard to clean it off.

My Father at the end of the day dropped off a DeLorean for me to drive the first year it came out in 1981, I took it to a Public driving range in Newport Beach, Ca to hit some golf balls, it sure turned a lot of heads as it was so different, only had it for one night though and since it was a school(High School) night couldn’t drive it around much. I didn’t even have a car of my own or even one to drive at the time, so it was one of the first cars I ever drove, it was an awesome experience and since I was so inexperienced I thought it was the best car in the World.

One thing that sticks out about hoovies delorean is someone has had an attempt to polish it, as its got some sort of a polishing mark on the hood, like I wonder if he's going to have someone in to try and redo the brush finish on parts of it. As the car seems abit all over the place with the way the stainless looks on it and its the only one I've seen with that faint DMC stripe along the side too, like I gotta wonder if this was literally one of the first ones out of the DMC factory as I've never seen that stripe before on any delorean period despite it having the august 1981 hood on it according to the wikipage on it, as they did used to have a gas flap for it apparently but since it wasnt lockable they removed it.

@@HollywoodF1 ✌😏 ok cool, i didnt know thats what Delorean uses as well, tell them to check for any air leaks & vacuum leaks, that will prevent the air valve distributor from moving up and down properly 😊🚙

That is such a common car, you can just run down to Autozone for all the parts needed.😉

Isn't there supposed to be a pickup sock (pre-filter) before the pump inlet? Pretty much every car i've seen a pump come out of has a sock on it to keep particulates being grabbed up by the pump and, well, in that pumps case, destroying itself. :/

"what in the world, what kind of rigging is that? I'm pretty sure it didn't come out of the DeLorean Factory like that" LMAO :) Wizard, you'd be surprised (some not in a good way...well a lot not in the good way) at what came out [engineering decisions] during it's short production run. It's what makes it so lovable...if you have the money and "know how" to fix Nothing else like it in the history of Automobiles. Sub'd and liked

Great post, like your dry sense of humor...I usually watch EricTheCarGuy, wonderful mechanic, loves his work, no sense of humor, and I still watch. Keep'em coming.(edit)..ohh the riggin', its what they used on the Titanic.
