The reason the old ones do so good is because, back then, safety wasn't airbags and crumple zones, it was stronger framework

I can assure you modern ones have even stronger frames But i do believe that there are easy reasons for win of older cars: tires with more profile and lighter mass is decreasing forces acting on the suspension and rest of car allowing advantage in two out of three tests And they are very likely very understressed regarding engine for last one

Not only that. The travel of the suspension on older cars are way higher than what is the equivalent of a slammed car on the newer ones , especially the first one, suspension and everything else was smacking off the floor, another thing to add is that the older car have more plush suspension so it just bounces instead of trying to reduce the forces like the shock absorbers do on the newer ones.

Revamped Ride Quality Test: somehow rig a bomb to only trigger at a certain Y-axis G-Force. Privilege is, I dunno what to set the trigger value to be... 😅 I guess by picking a vehicle (not being tested) that's known to be *good,* but definitely won't be closer to the _best?_ (so you obviously wouldn't pick a Baja vehicle lol) Figure that out and sky's the limit (no pun intended), as you could then use it to measure any condition... on-road, off-road, over a 1/4mi of speed bumps and speed _humps,_ and any other situation one could come up with. Do poorly and..... 💥BADA _BIIIIIIG_ BOOM!💥

There was a time when the engineers at Mercedes-Benz had a higher wage than those who ran the books. It wasn't the accountants building the cars it was the engineers building the cars and then the accountants selling the cars for a profitable price. That was how it was. Which is why all of those old Mercedes are absolutely destroying the new Mercedes. That's because I don't know when exactly but at some point the bureaucracy and the accountants started building the cars instead of the engineers which led to a severe decrease in quality and reliability. That is why I will take an old w124 over a 2024 Maybach. I wouldn't want one anyway those things are meant to be driven around in, I'm a driver I want to actually drive the damn car! It just doesn't have a driver in mind. That's why I want the SLR McLaren. That is that rare piece of real Mercedes engineering!

Hey you should recreate the challenge that Cleetus Mcfarland did in his most recent video in the $3k car challenge. The one at the end where they jump the cars. I bet it would be great with a bigger jump. Basically the car goes around an oval and hits the jump at 40mph and gets one point. If it can keep going and do it again it at 40mph it gets another point. And so on and so on.
