A few season's now the League cup has given numerous chances to many of the academy lads which in turn puts them in the shop window. Looks a good way for the club to get money in like young Clark going to Salzburg due to decent cup performance. The reality is not many if any go through to the 1st team to play regularly. I fear with the teams now left in it there may be few chances to see the academy guys much but hopefully Slot will still mix a few in. YNWA.

I know that strikers have to be greedy and are supposed the be the last foot on the ball but not passing to a very open Elliot and trading it for a hesitant botched shot was not a good sign. If you can't play the final pass you make sure it was worth it by scoring instead.

It was a tough game with all the wind and rain.. And majority of the team was almost our team b.. Southampton came back very strong after halftime.. It's a job done.. Chiesa should have been on score sheet but I liked what I saw.. Regular game time with the main squad will help him a lot.. But he will find it difficult with squad is so strong and almost all the games are important.. And what a point blank save by Kelleher.. I hope we get Arsenal in SemiFinal.. Beating them will be a big booster for the season..

Darwin's problem is as a centre forward he does not get the service due to the low quality of the crosses and through balls from others and the slow build up. He would be a lot better if he could rely on the service. Some of Salah's passes are so wayward he should be embarassed. In many games the inability of Liverpool to go outside the full back more than a few times and centre restricts the effectiveness of a tradional centre forward. In general some of the inaccurate shots by Liverpool players, due to lack of concentration, is criminal. When shooting in training is very good but in a match it is bad it is due to lack of concentration or fear/panic. Southampton's goal was an example of really bad defending as we backed off instead of engaging earlier and allowed the attack to progress into the penalty box with ease setting up the chance of a shot. This has become a common weakness in our central defence with Virgil tending to do this in previous matches. Slot took a big risk picking this inexperienced team and made it worse with the substitutions. He was lucky to get away with it.
