Hey Crew, how is the dusting? Any chance you can pull the air box apart for us and show us? Many thanks

Lowering tyre pressures also minimises damage to the track

The shock absorber fade isn’t just heat, it’s mostly aeration of the oil as the oil is constantly being shoved through the piston and valves. The shock absorber manufacturers started pressurising the shocks with nitrogen to limit the problem but once the piston rod seal became worn the gas escaped rendering the gassing useless really.

Sand driving tips. Tip no 1. Do not utilise low range as this just delivers all your torque digging the vehicle straight down. Utilise high range untill absolutely all else has failed, even now it will dig rather than strive to pull forward. Tip no 2. Turn off Stability Control. This doesn't disable Traction Control, don't be confused over this. Stability Control will be applying brakes attempting to keep all wheels proceeding at calibrated speed through body sway and turns, but that's not what you want, as its slowing your vehicle and requiring more throttle input. Traction control on the other hand will stop a wheel spinning delivering power to a wheel that does have Resistance/Traction and that's what you do need. The 300 with sand mode is basically doing this itself. Love the outback sand driving. It's a glorious place to be, you lucky lucky barstards. Am I envious? You bet I am.

Mt Dare is not the last place to fuel up before crossing the Simpson Desert (west to east) as mentioned in the video. From William Creek, which is where they travelled from, to the Pink Roadhouse in Oodnadatta, there is no need to go past Mt Dare. Not to mention the fuel at Oodnadatta is heaps cheaper than at Mt Dare.

Not sure you needed to drive with center diff lock engaged the whole time, should really only use it if you absolutely need to, probably didn't even need traction control or even low-4. Also, show us the air box!
@einfelder82622 жыл бұрын
You won't hurt the vehicle or the track with centre diff lock engaged. Who made you the expert saying you should limit it's use? Comment only after you've done a Simpson crossing yourself.

@@SideGateStudios Yes. You're talking crap. Stop giving advice when you are ignorant of the facts. To further your education, the 79 series that accompanied the 300 had it's centre diff locked the whole way too. Didn't hurt that vehicle either.

Sorry did that say $3.05 a litre? I’d tell ‘em he’s dreaming and hold out for the next servo if I was you.

You are taking the Mickey out of us aren't you? You do realise just where Mt Dare is situated don't you. Next fuel stop, Birdsville where I'd estimate similar or even higher pricing purely again due to location & freight costs. Imagine for one millisecond the cost of freighting fuel to this location, it would be horrendous, I'm for one thinking it a bargain. This was in June. I was paying $3.80, $3.50 down to $3.20 on K'gari in August. No where near as much freight involved, but your obligated to pay it, there's zero alternative.
@M8YM82 жыл бұрын
@@ianweal3081 no Ian there’s no excuse that just simply isn’t justified. They’re flat out taking advantage of desperate people. I did that same trip, filled up in Sydney and didn’t need fuel again until I got back. Did over 1800kms without a refuel. You just need to be prepared and not drive recklessly. It’s the only way these greedy small country town businesses will change their ways!!!!!
@ianweal30812 жыл бұрын
@@M8YM8There is an excuse, I've outlined it previously, the cost of getting fuel freighted here would be horrendous, hence we are to pay for it, he's not going to supply it at a loss just to appease his client's. In regards to Sam, hes driving a standard vehicle, no additional fuel capacity other than jerry cans being carried on another vehicle. He couldn't be more prepared in this vehicle which they are testing to see how it does fair on consumption. His scenario is typical of Mr average. I'm unaware of what your driving but your capacity must be out of this world, a standard vehicle traversing sand in 4x4 would require refueling twice to do the distance you're achieved. You're in a good situation over me, in my case I'd happily pay their $3.05.

@@ianweal3081 mate I’m driving a stock hybrid Toyota Rav 4. It’s all about how you drive. The car handled it great and the regen braking kept pumping up the range as we went. We were even towing a 2000kg camper trailer.
@ianweal30812 жыл бұрын
@@M8YM8 I was thinking hybrid from your previous content but I'd suggest your trip wouldn't have included the crossing of the Simpson, as if it did you'd be compelled to utilise Mt Dares costly fuel to get to Birdsville. In regard to K'gari, again you'd be compelled to utilise costly fuel, there's no escaping freight costs. Appreciate the input regard hybrid consumption though as it's informative info for us all. Without camper it may be better but braking wouldn't be as regenerative without camper as well. Good info. Can't wait until 4x4 technology becomes more advanced, many L/R are available with hybrid including Defender but the cost is prohibitive and presume hybrid drive technology wouldn't be any benefit towards a Simpson crossing.

Yep, it was closed a few times lately. It closed half an hour after we left Mt Dare on 15 Sept 2022, and we found out why they closed it :) Mt dare to Purni Bore was a nightmare of mud, slush, metre deep water.
