Yellow cake is perfect because you want to taste everything else. If you use spice or anything else you will be tasting the spice.

I think the spice cake mix would be great. I make these dump cakes but haven’t made this one. I have the apples and spice cake at home. Thanks Tom and Melissa.. Have you tried an Angel food cake mix and mix it with a can of lemon pudding? Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. That’s it, 2 ingredients and delicious.. Hope you will try it if you haven’t. Again thank you. I just love you both. And yes, Jesus loves you too. ❤❤

I use a butter pecan cake mix. In addition I use a 1/2-3/4 jar of caramel topping. I like the idea of the caramel bits. I also add a pinch of nutmeg and allspice. Definitely a fall favorite!

Tom, that looks so good. Also simple to make. Only difference is I would get some of the Caramel ice cream topping and drizzle it all over the top of the cake once it’s cooled.

This sounds like a great combination of flavors. As you were making it, I was thinking this seems kinds of cobbler-like. Knowing me, I'd have probably gone ahead and used the rest of that stick of butter on the top because, well, it's butter. Appreciate the new addition to the rotation of fall desserts.

It’s so funny you posted this , over the weekend I did an apple dump cake with the spice cake and also with pecan pieces , I added a cup of old fashioned oatmeal, for even more texture to the top , also if you want it a little more juicy you can add about half a cup of apple cider or juice , I prefer cider bc it’s got the spice profile you’ve already added in your layers . It’s phenomenal and my favorite fall recipes ❤fromTx

I'm going to make my own apple pie filling, homemade caramels and chop them up, homemade cake, shuck and chop pecans from my Pecan tree, grate fresh cinnamon and make homemade butter from cream. JUST KIDDING!! I'm gonna do exactly what you did!! 😂
