I own the 48 set of these oil pastels, but I still haven´t found the courage to use them on a bigger scale. They are really soft and nice to work with. Before I got them I had a small set of a cheaper brand who were a disappointment and made me feel bad because the outcome was far behind my expectations. The Caran D´Ache showed me that I wasn´t to blame for the results. In one sentence: I love my Caran D ´Ache!!

I totally agree with your assessment, Sandrine; I often use the cheaper ones, eg Mungo (which is also really good value for money) for background filling and then apply Caran d'Ache and Sennelier on top to achieve more painterly-texture. Neo's are hard enough for detailed work and yet soft enough for excellent blending. The colour range is excellent and noticeably more pigmented too and complements Sennelier and Mungo's palettes, I find. Sennelier is also excellent but way too overpriced in my view and is not necessarily the best choice of pastel if you want control and detail. Thank you, Alpay. I agree about the Sennelier. They are too soft for details unless using some tools or a brush and solvent. It's going to be fun combining them all!

Been starting to use my oil pastels. At this point, got the 24 set Munuyo, and the 12 set Sennelier. Right now I have 25 Neopastel (mostly bought open stock) with more on the way. I keep my Neocolor I and 2 sharpened to a point. What I have liked doing is using the Neocolor I for fine points. Been learning, I really need to save the Sennelier for last. Did pick up a small set of Pentels with hopes of using them plein air. Your reviews are always so helpful. Thank you.

Meant that I'm using the Neocolor I with the oil pastels. Wasn't sure if that was clear.

I think it's a very good idea. I might try that too. It's not always easy to add details. I like using colored pencils for that.

They are very nice. The Neocolor 2 aren't the same. These are oil pastels. They are not water soluble.

They WERE sold at 2 something until like a week ago!!! Now they are 3 something!!!! I have been buying them a little at a time and when I saw the price yesterday, I was shocked! 😭

@@Sandrinesgallery actually they jacked up the prices to almost everything!!! At least that is my experience cause ALL the things I have in my "saved for later", are more expensive!!! The only 2 things I have there (and I have a LOT of things saved, cause I buy, a few items at a time, when I have enough money)well, the only 2 things they didn't change the price were the sand block and the shield eraser. Even the Cretacolor that were 1.09 each, are now 2.09!!! DOUBLE THE PRICE! And some sets of oil pastels I was looking to buy are TWENTY dollars more!!!! I am soooo sad! So I'm gonna have to stop buying and see what happens, cause this is ridiculous!

From what I've read and reviews from professional artists, Holbein's colored pencil line isn't tested for lightfastness using industry standards. This concerns me about the standard of lightfast testing for all their products. I own gouache, watercolors, and colored pencils from Holbein. At a lower cost I will just replace my Holbein products with products that test using standard industry methods. If lightfast isn't an issue using Holbein wouldn't matter, but at the prices they charge they should be held to the same standard as all professional grade products.
