Condensation on the inside of Caravan and Motor Home acrylic windows is a problem many caravan and motor home owners face. However there is a simple solution to this problem. This Caravan Tips and Tricks video will show you how to solve this and other problems associated with ventilation and how to prevent condensation from happening in the future.
People new to caravanning and motor homing, keeping cool while camping is a problem this summer. The high quality acrylic windows fit in most motorhomes and caravans are double glassed to keep us warm, but they sometimes suffer misting on the inside face, if you cause too much temperature difference on both sides of the Perspex faces on hot days. Proper venting of the window stops this from happening and keeps the interior cool. The blinds fit to these windows can cause the problem, if the window is also firmly closed.
Fly screens are a useful device not just for keeping the midges and mosquitoes at bay but for venting the windows.
Did you know, if you have a severe problem with misting with these windows, you can remove the bungs that seal them and on a warm day, the damp air will dry out and the problem is solved.

This is a great video, very helpful indeed. Just to mention if you use a fish tank air pump at least 45 liters of air per minute, connect a hose to it and pop it in one of the holes and let it run, this clears the window very quickly. Also filling the air space with scuba air is great because it's less than 10% moisture.

I bought and took delivery of my caravan on the day of lock down. I wasn’t able to do a proper hand over. So I’ve been watching many KZbin videos. And nowhere has anyone pointed out the middle locking section for air circulation. What a brilliant tip 👍🏻 thanks!!

Hi Cellini. In the hot weather ventilating a caravan can make a big difference to your comfort levels. Next tip for hot conditions. The fridge is more efficient if you park the caravans fridge venting intakes in the shade. Hope this tip helps you and if you need any advice, we are here.

Hi @@tigertruckerman You want a sunny warm dry day, so the moisture can escape. However there is no specific tool I know of, a pair of eyebrow tweezers used carefully should do it nicely.

Sadly, I attempted your remedy, pulling the grommets out with a pair of blunt pliers . Well as my grommets must be well 'decayed' by the sun, they both popped 'inside' the window ! :( So I was wondering, do you have any Tips and Tricks for getting the grommets out of a double glazed acrylic caravan unit?
@UsefulWisdom

Hi Jim, It is snowing here in the UK today. Probably better to leave them where they are and plug the holes with new grommets.

@@UsefulWisdom Janet, thank you very much for your prompt response, I must say I sort of miss your snow, but on the other hand I don't! I am off to order some new grommets!

Although you're video was informative. I must state, you would very rarely notice any condensation on days such as on the hot day you have shot your video on. Condensation forms when temperatures fall externally, where both cold and warm air meet such as cold surfaces windows, walls etc .

Thank you Peter. You could have added that condensation can occur with just 2 degrees difference in temperature between both surfaces. That is if the water vaper in the air (humidity) is very high, for example on a single sheet of glass. However the dewpoint will be affected by this caravans acrylic window, because of the thermal properties of this material have an insulating effect.

You're right Peter, these "tips" are really useless because I dont know anybody who ever had trouble with condensation ON A HOT SUNNY DAY. Its cold days and nights that give the real condensation problems, let me see some "usefull wisdom" tips for that...

@@UsefulWisdom Thank you for a most informative video, just what I needed. My situation (summer in Australia), my back window is condensed up. I believe that as my van is 8 years old and the sun has started to degrade the acrylic and we have the wettest of years last year, rain water has crept in. I will try to taking out of the grommets - today we are headed for 30 degrees Celsius.
