I want to thank you for your expertise. I took it to a big company that told me That it was cheaper to buy a new one. After ordering the kit and and waiting.. I bought the new blower (how stupid of me) . Once I got the $13.00 kit. I followed your instructions, put it back together, and the blower startedon the first pull. You are the greatest. I was so happy that I felt like dancing until my wife asked me what I was going to do with two blowers. Now I know why pirates always leave the wife at home, and get a parakeet. Just to remind them never to expect anything but crap on your shoulder ,and a lot of waste of time.

I bought a used bg85 and it ran great for about 5 minutes then died. I checked the filter, spark arrestor, plug, etc and was all good. I determined that it would die because the check valve on the top of the gas tank was sticking from the previous owners use of ethanol gas and, just before it would die, I would unscrew the cap real quick and she'd rev right back up. Fixed that issue by drilling a tiny, tiiiiny, hole in the gas cap so it wouldn't spray gas out while running and I used it all day long after that. Ran several tanks of premium ethanol free gas with Stihl two psycho oil at 50:1. Runs perfect

@@KyleHallwoodworker it's my pleasure. I quickly diagnosed it by unscrewing the gas cap when it would start to die and she revved right back up. Not a bad little blower.

i learned alot. i have to do this this weekend. i always dispose of the old fuel when i do a carb clean. i make sure the isn't any debris in the tank before putting in fresh fuel and attempting to start. that old gas can re-clog the tiny jets i and then you would have to take it apart a second time.

No disrespect to Kyle Hall's informative video and effort. With BG55s, if you can't back out the tiny jet with the #(?) slot, one size down from a #1 and strong enough that won't snap, buy a new carb. The 55, from cheap Stihl subcontract carb, has to be run every week if using pump fuel to flush out all the junk in the fuel. Owners buy and fill from the pump, use one weekend, and leave stowed in a shed for a month or longer and the gas in the carb, even 91 premium octane, at some point gums up and clogs the jet. Doesn't always happen, but from cold start to full throttle and the motor bogs and quits, it's the jet. If that tiny brass screw on the primer side doesn't pop out, the carb is toast. You can never get at to poke clean with a wire. The BG55, a great little blower, is designed for 100% paraffin fuel and to winterize with. The junk in pump fuel gums the jet, soots up the spark arrestor and the plug.

A new carburetor from Stihl is under $50, aftermarket ones even less. These blowers are about $150, the dealer won't work on it very long before you have that much in labor. I've been successful many times just cleaning carbs and dumping out old gas just like in the video. I've done this for neighbors, I tell them to get rid of any gas they have in cans. They don't, then put the old gas back in the machine and you know what happens.

I clean them anytime someone brings one in for repair, just as a courtesy. I blow out the props and inside of the case, check the fuel filter, then clean and gap the plug as part of my service. 9 times out of 10 they come to me for carb failure. My courtesy service eliminates a lot of potential problems. I also dump the customers fuel and replace with my own mix because I know it is less than 10% on the ethanol, it's fresh and it's mixed correctly. If these things run rough after a minute or two of warm-up, it's usually just a matter of adjusting the hi and low mix. Those Zama carbs only have about ³/⁴ total turn on the mixing screws, so they are very sensitive to the slightest turn. These little carbs are sensitive to ethanol. Reeks havoc on them. Like putting sugar in the tank it sets too long especially in warm weather. The lower the ethanol, the better off you are. Alrighty, I'm done talking shop. Lol...I look at these tutorials when I have exhausted all logic and I am stumped or I get in an older piece and I need to refresh my brain, and then can't get off KZbin. Lol If I can answer questions or help anyone with small engines just message me on Googlemail marksovine47. Please put the words small engine help on the subject line. Y'all enjoy tinkering!!

You won't find this answer _anywhere_ online: gas tank check valve gets stuck in the closed position and creates a vapor lock which won't allow the carb to suck fuel.

Been a long time since I fixed it and it still starts on the therd pull even if it's really cold out. It's pretty simple to disassemble the blower enough to get to the fuel tank and pull the hose assembly out. Two ends go in the tank and the other two go to the carb. I found tiny holes in the suction line with the filter on the end. They get hard and crack. I replaced the hose assembly, it's a molded assembly with the gromet that goes in the tank, with one I ordered online. I never have to prime it. I set the choke, squeeze the trigger on the first two pulls then release the trigger and she fires right up on the third pull before sliding the choke open to keep it running. It sure is nice for blowing off the car.

No indication in this video that anything was wrong with the Carb - a dust off with some carb cleaner wont do much buddy. You haven't check high and low speed jets, float needle, diaphragms for damage, fuel filter and gaskets just for starters .......best advice is to buy a cheap spare Carb. If your blower wont run swap over and only start fault finding when you really haven't anything better to do. These carbs and modern fuel are a disaster if your not using them every day IMO
