Newbie diy'er here with a mk5 and I just did the thermostat myself, you're not kidding XD Alternator, throttle body piping, tensioner/serp belt and charcoal cannister all off. Then it's still super tight and fiddly with the piping to the thermostat. 200,000km engine and hopefully that never needs to be done again. Loving your mk5 series, learning something new every video. I had my engine in this state last December. A bad smell of fuel, and poor starting each morning turned out to be 2 perished injector seals, so the rail lost pressure overnight. At 245K miles on my BPY there was around 13mm (1/2" SAE) of space on each valve of the 8 of the intake. The cold winter starts were almost not possible in Maine USA. Now it's dead, but the new engine coming will have this done on a regular. I don't have Wal nutshell blaster, but I used the best carb cleaner plastic /brass brushes and zip ties. They were nice, but nothing like your results. Thanks as always for you videos.

Surprised you don't have a catch can setup. Especially with the amount of crap that these D.I. engines build up and recirculate. They make a substantial difference. I.E. makes a nice one. Good call on the cam follower replacement. One of the only things that I used to see on these cars when I was at the stealership was varying degrees of carnage inside the chain cover. Smashed follower, flat spotted cam lobe, chewed up/ grinding marks inside the cover, etc. Some people hear the noise and just let it go... 😒🙄 The only other things that were notorious to replace at the stealer we're the PCV, manifold as a complete unit, and the purge solenoid. All common failures. Love this project! Keep up the excellent work brother!👍👍💪✌️🙂

Sounds like the AXX feed bolt if it's banjo. Seen them on a few BWA engines. On these we drill out the feed to the stainless line at the opposite end where the rubber hose connects, not the banjo part.

@@DecimalTenths I think that's the one I have as I also did Intake Manifold, and I noticed my rail sensor was orange. Car has a swapped MK6 Golf R engine with a Precision 5858 turbo, RS4 Injectors, RS4 PRV, TT-RS LPFP, TorqByte PM4 module and also Snow Performance W/M injection. I only need to do the 5mm drilling of the HPFP as the one you did. Its bonkers setup.

So the R is packing then huh 😂 No wonder the difference between the GTI and R is so notable, a stock manual R feels so much faster and pushy than a DSG GTI already with a few upgrades on it, the difference is actually absolute insane!

is it possible that the car runs rich with no fault codes when having severe carbon build up?
@DecimalTenths
@DecimalTenths 2 жыл бұрын
There is a potential for a lack of airflow, and therefore a small amount of additional fuel, however the fuel trims will take car of this and show so a logging session would most probably identify the cause. Is the overfuelling or just smell of petrol, which could be unburnt fuel from slight misfires which is also common.
@LinusF_

@@DecimalTenths can i log this with obd11? there is some unburnt fuel coming out the exhaust, at the yearly car inspection i had 140 hydrocarbon value on the exhaust test at 2500 rpm and the maximum legal limit is 100.

Nooo dont Remove the Flaps :( you have an Direct injection you need Tumble , gasoline will not good mixing with air without it ...... full Throttle they Open Full but less throttel they will affect a good Thumble for more Torque and less fuel consumption ! I Hope you have to fully fill your Highpressure Pump before start it !!!!
@DecimalTenths

We find that we are changing so much of the characteristics of the engine, and increasing torque over the full rpm range, that the flaps then become redundant.

The carbon cleaning? You'll want to do them all at once given that most of the effort is removing the manifold. Wouldnt want to waste your time doing that multiple times.

On a stock car, slight low down torque can be lost. On a highly modified car it's nigh on irrelevant.
