Other than fiberglass, I've never worked with a more difficult, hairy, sticky (or not where you actually want the stuff to stick) material, so an excellent execution on your part, nice work!

Great job. Add a cut lap next time, strip of masking tape around the circumference to get a clean line. When it becomes rubbery and not sticky you can cut a clean line.

Fiskars rotary cutter works wonderful for carbon. I use that for cutting repair swatches. Best part is when the blade wears out you replace it instead of being out a pair of shears.
@barrynicholls34672 жыл бұрын
I would recommend using scissors or shears with a slight serrated edge when cutting fibre, carbon and kevlar. I found it gives a better cut as the material does not slip in the jaws when you cut it. The serrations do not need to be large if you can feel them with your finger that's fine. Unless you want to go the the expanse of ceramic scissors😃

Definitely. Proper shears or high end scissors make a massive difference when cutting CF

Just ordered my Rocket Sunset shirt. I'm finishing up my LOC Vulcan to hopefully go for my L1 soon. Though I'm not near ready to attempt glass or CF, your videos have been very helpful. I think it would be cool to have a White Wolf to add to my collection!

Nice looking! I found doing the peel ply in 3 smaller pieces gave me much less fuss. One for each fin, then a rectangle down the middle over lapping them. I got a tip to tip video I think I explain it in.

that's a great suggestion!

@RocketVlogs so you wet the peel ply with resin? I am a begginer and I have only seen peel ply used to remove excess resin. I suppose you're making sure there is a resin rich surface under the peel ply? Is there any risk in doing this where the peel ply becomes difficult to remove? Thank you. I am going to attempt doing this myself since I want a shiny surface
@jamesaddison812 жыл бұрын
You have to be a little careful laying up carbon on top of fibreglass as they have very different moduli. Because of carbons stiffness the fibreglass isn’t under any load and it’ll all go through the carbon layer.

So, how long do you wait for the resin to cure without the vacuum? Cheers!

clear wont stick to 2500 sanded surfaces very well. you could have gone to 600 or 800 and itd have been fine

Awsome video , thinking of laying up my level 1 loc IV fin can , is it possible if ive already painted ? Some club members told me its hard with it being cardboard
@RocketVlogs Жыл бұрын
Cardboard doesn't make it any harder, but paint will. Ideally, you'd need to sand it all off.

had a quick question about west system the mini pump set they sell is to long for some of the cans of hardener are you suppose to just cut to fit ? searched all over and can not find an answer to what im sure is a total noob question
@RocketVlogs2 жыл бұрын
Should come with different size straws to fit the Group A cans. If they're too long, you can trim them.

Why struggle cutting the carbon that way? You can easily get a piece of veil with some spray tack which will secure your carbon and allow you to cut nice and clean without tape.
