Carbon Fiber Rims vs Aluminum Rims! | Which Is Best For BMX?

It's 2021 and Carbon fiber rims are officially a thing in freestyle BMX but they are very expensive, more than 4x the price of the conventional metal BMX rims but they are nearly half the weight of the old rims, are they worth it? Today Matty tests the carbon rims by putting them through a tough test at the skatepark and tries his best to destroy them! Did he succeed? You'll have to watch and find out what happens!

Nostalgia has me riding a Heritage Pro Performer and I've been putting it on a hard-core diet. My original budget for wheels and tires was $800, but that's now my new rim budget. The hardest part about it is that I ride full brakes. The sets of rims tend to come with a brakeless front, so I will have pay a [another] premium for being a dinosaur.

The mass distribution of a rotating body changes the moment of inertia. Thats the term you guys were looking for when explaining bar spins with a spinning wheel being easier with a lighter wheel. You understanding was great though because when you said "rotational weight", you were spot on. The moment of inertia acts the mass when talking torque vs force. Physics 101

You'll flair a bunch of times without having to true the carbon wheel, that's the difference. If and when it breaks is the point where your alloy rim would also be unfixable. It's really only sharp impacts that tend to be their weak point, don't run low tyre pressure then case.

Additionally the purpose of Cush Core is to run low pressure on, under 30psi on mountain bikes in order to maintain grip pedaling up rocks and roots. Most BMXers will ride well over 30, often 60-90psi.
