You're genious, sir! You're so ahead of other explanatory videos on this topic. By far the best on the entire internet!! I've gotta tell you with a few of your videos you made me an expert for my lawnmower so I was able to repair it myself without actually having to send it for a service and pay money! Huge thanks to you!

Just stumbled across this and it's great. I've been repairing carbs for myself for a long time and this is right up my line of interest. I've always wondered about how the carb actually operates and you do an excellent job of explaining the theory. I am an engineer myself so appreciate knowing the how and why of carbs.

This makes sense and what I was thinking about intuitively. I've been watching videos about adjusting chainsaws and they seem to be using these terms and corresponding adjustments interchangeably and then contradicting in the next sentence. No amount of rewinding or searching in vain for comments pointing out the logical disconnect helped me to make sense of it all until I came here. Thanks.

That's a good simple example and like you said there are different carbi's, with my Yamaha AG100 1973 A model, mikuni VM20SH carbi, there is no high rev mixture screw, only one for idle stage, to adjust mid to high rev mixture it's done with the float level, a high float level is rich and low level leans it out, it's fun getting it right, my service manual says to turn carbi upside down after removing bowl, remove gasket and set float without spring in needle being compressed, from the high side of float to the surface the gasket seats against, is 19.2mm, though where I'm living in Cairns Australia, this tends to be a bit rich, there is a tolerance of 2.5mm of float level, I find at 20mm it runs good.

My bike (1975 Suzuki TC185) died after a short ride to the auto store to buy a new spark plug this morning. I thought my new plug might have been the culprit, or maybe the new gasket I installed last night. I pushed it a half mile home. I had spark, so I checked compression. All good there too. So I looked at fuel since that had to be the cause. I put a new fuel hose on thinking it just might be really dirty, then realized.... This morning I adjusted the richness, and accidently set it to all the way in lean for both sides. I set it to very rich, and started kicking the starter like it insulted my mother. It started chucgging, then held about 500rpms. So I opened the fuel mixture more, and voila! She ran. The new gasket I mentioned earlier was for another issue I had. When I got my bike up to 45-50mph, I would lose power and the bike would chug until I was under 35mph, then pick up again. If it looks like a compression issue, and sounds like a compression issue, it's probably a compression issue. I took the head off earlier in the week, and what do ya know, no head gasket. I cut out the a gasket yesterday and installed it last night. After fixing my problem from this morning, I took it out for a spin, got up to 55mph and held it pretty good for a half mile. Then the gasket blew. No compression. I had a socket wrench for my spark plug, but not for the nuts on the head. So no fixing it on the road. So I pushed it back a mile and a half. Luckily I live out in farm country, so the road I was on was almost a straight walk home on level roads. It's also in the mid 60's fahrenheit so that's a plus. I love two strokes because they are easy to fix, but man when it rains it pours.

Working on a carburetor of a chainsaw actually myself. After months of struggling with my Jonsered (Bad starting, when it turns warm it stops working). I'm actually finding out on how to adjust the T, L and H on the machine. I already cleaned out some carburetors, the one of the Jonsered as well. So I got experience on cleaning them, not on how you have to 'calibrate' them. Thanks for your video. It clears out a lot for me. What do you think about a tachymeter, to read out the engine's RPM ? Useful or not?

These videos man!!!! I still need help with blowback. I think it may be possible I need to screw in my "tic" idle screw and try my adjustments there. But I feel like it's something I'm missing. Would love your help!

Thanks for the explanation. I have a new Stihl km94rce trimmer that is hard to start hot. It went back and they replaced the carb, still same issue. It has been extremely hot outside so this could be the entire issue(?) but is it also possible it's running too rich? Thank you

My mercury 60hp carb has just on air fuel mixture screw on each carb. The service manual states 1 1/2 turn out. For adjustment do I only go out 1/4 to 1/2 more for better run performance so it's a bit on the rich side for each carb? The manual states RPM’S should be 650 - 750 in forward gear for idle. Does setting the carbs affect the rpm then?

Great vid mate. Question, I can set up the low screw to maintain highest revs, I can hear it getting rich anticlockwise and lean clockwise, but what is the best way to setup the high screw?
@STAYBAD5 жыл бұрын
So if my engine runs perfectly in idle and full power but after checking the plug it looks too rich. (Plug wet) I just need to close the high a little bit to make it leaner ?

Hi, really useful explanation but I'm having a problem getting my saw running nicely. I've just done a pot and piston replacement (first time) and now I'm finding that although I can get it to idle and sound OK once I work the saw the revs dont come back down to idle and obviously the chain keeps running. If I put the chain brake on then off again the revs will come down but not by much if I just release the throttle. What would likely cause this? Any help would be much appreciated 👍
@TheRepairSpecialist4 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear you have been having problems. It sounds like you could benefit by having your saw tuned properly. Please take a look at my video on how you can do this step by step. You can find in this link:kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWXTanmCoq6eodk . I hope this helps! Cheers Craig

Hi just seen your very helpful video, u have a small question my chainsaw is quick new not used very much, however I've tried to start it and I manage to get it to start but when I pull the trigger it dies, I changed the petrol but still it dies, also if I try and leave it to idle it still eventually dies, any ideas plse. The filter doesn't appear to be blocked either. It's a titan chainsaw from Screwfix bought last year
