We have problems with foaming in our RC plane fuel tanks using similar fuel. We put two drops of("original"!!!) armorall in one gallon of fuel. Don't believe it will work? @@TerryGilsenan yes but it must be the original armorall. Spray a tinyl amount in a drinks bottle put in some fuel and shake, no bubbles. I believe that the armorall efects the surface tension of the bubbles causing them to collapse as they attempt to form. Try the Spitz shake test.

Great to see your progress! I really like the Mikuni Round Body BN38 pumper carb, was used on a lot of 2 stroke jet ski's. It looks similar to your tillotson. If you are having an issue with the large crank volume, a pumper carb should work on an external pump that delivers pressure below the 'pop off.' Best thing about these carbs is you can tune them on the fly with the High and Low tuning screws - turn it out till it 4 strokes, then tweak it back in. Keep up the good work!

Funny, think I mentioned the problem of fuel foaming I had experienced with early KTM 125 water coolers a couple of years back in the comments when you were struggling with something related. Our solution was to build a clear float bowl first to verify and then visually see the results of out modifications , then was added weight on it until the foaming moved from a critical RPM to a not so critical one. Then eventually buils a rubber boot mount

If you are going to play with fuel tank height on a direct feed carburettor, then take cap off fuel tank and solder in a siphon pipe to the cap or lid so that the only way air may enter tank is via the siphon pipe which extends to the bottom of the tank. The result of this is that the fuel pressure remains constant as fuel level in tank drops.

Yeah, it's called a "chicken hopper" tank. The problem with these comments is that they're just... comments. A simple sketch would make up for hundreds of words. Hopper tanks, both atmospheric and pressurized have been used for decades without any problems and there aren't any moving parts. Very frustrating watching the fumbling around that's going on here.

One way to solve the foaming problem that I have speculated with some tuner guys is to add weights to the carb to shift the carburetor's "resonance frequency" away from the powerband. Also the intake manifold has to be soft enough to let the carb vibrate on its own in order for this to work. I would try this first with the normal carburetor before going into another rabbit hole with the engine dampener 😁 I think the float bowl carburetor has still been proven to work even with high revving setups and it has the advantage of adjustability and you know the behavior well. You could buy a quality float carb like a Mikuni TM or TMX. It has been praised among tuners here.

Alex has being experiencing fuel throthing problems going back over 6 years now. He attempted balancing the crank along with changing crank types with out success. What you must remember these cranks are not intended to rev so high and need correct modifications to help alleviate balance effects. We need to remember PiP and the Brute Force engine has ruined 2 sets of crank main bearings in a short time. Reduce vibration to increase reliability and performance. Just my opinion.

Hi Alex, I’ve been watching your videos for years and love them! My question is has the project lost direction? I thought the idea was a brute force engine with the blower and go a race it. But that seems to have now gone by the way side which is a real shame IMO. The blower seems to be now redundant and we are back to a normally aspirated motor. I understand that you like to dive down rabbit holes and explore them, it just seems that the job never actually gets completed and you get the motor in a bike and go and see how fast it will go. This really is meant as a true question, not just mindless trolling.

He said in a video that he wants to get the main engine running and working properly before the introduction of a blower i believe. So i believe he is just running and doing tests for that then he will introduce the blower, othewrwise he would have been in a continuous state of redundancy more of what he is in now. His brain also seems to work like mine where he has a very hard time focusing on one project at a time. Give him time to sort through his rabbit hole, it will all be worth it in the end.

They're called: positive expulsion tanks, "bubble less" tanks or simply Tetra-tanks, after the Japanese company that manufactures and distributes them. I invented the tank in 1975, couldn't sell it to any of the US tank manufacturers, and ended up publishing the whole works in the August 1977 issue of Model Aviation magazine. Of course Tetra jumped on the opportunity and stole the rights from me-so much for international copyright law. They currently sell these tanks in sizes ranging from 4-24 oz. It's not difficult to make one of these yourself; they work at any scale.

@2STROKE STUFFING I was watching an aviation video and Mike Patey for a stunt plane made a tall cylindrical gas tank with an inverted cone on the bottom to help keep fuel supply to the motor no matter the inclination of the plane (to keep the fuel pump from drawing air). I was thinking that an arrangement like this, a float bowl that was kinda long and skinny with an inverted cone on the bottom (a cone with the small end facing down) could alleviate the foaming some. Even better would be a small cone inside of the outer cone, sorta like a cylindrical rock crusher arrangement, would help calm the fuel down even more. Having to flow over the inner cone would act like a kind of damper to calm the fuel down...... maybe? Not sure. The only other thing I was thinking is fluid filled motor mounts, but finding some for your application would be hard, if not impossible. Extra thick, and soft grommets might work, just have to try a few things I guess. Good luck. Keep up the great content, I enjoy your channel. The trip to Germany was pretty cool. My favourite channel! :) Constructive criticism though: you really need a guard for the primary drive chain and hacksawing would be much easier if your vice was solid. Video quality is excellent by the way.

A mountain bike shock may work as an engine shock? The rear shocks are small. You may need to add a leverage arm to make the shock work. It is probably not weak enough.

When the drill bit wants to walk try a super short stubby end mill next time. Tiny pecks to take as little each peck. Side load on the drill press bearings is really hard on it, but if you work slow it should be OK. I've never tried this with steel.

Start by pilot drilling as big as you can without breaking through and walking. Then follow with the endmill to open the hole on size.

Any way to make a small window in the head, borosilicate glass window to see the flame color, mount a hi temp thermocouple too , but just for tuning. Hope it might help. The k jet can be made to vary the fuel, with a frequency valve for on off the pipe tuning

Fuel injection. I think it's time. Something homebrew and crude. like the 1980s Peugeot system that just had a big flap in the airflow to measure air flow (but, actually, use a MAF sensor) One map RPM v MAF would give you a system that you can tweak infinitely more than a carb. I think this could be done with an Arduino, in a fairly friendly way, but it's also very likely that you could use some forgotten corner of your existing engine management system. I am not talking entirely theoretically here, I spent 20 years mapping the fuel injection for diesel engines for a major car manufacturer, and I did start on an Arduino injection system for a friend's V10 model engine. too. But he is years away from that running, so it remains untested. But I do like my 2-strokes. I was taken to school in 2-stroke cars, which is _very_ unusual in the UK. We had a Goggomobile and a Wartburg. And 4 Austin Princesses. and a Talbot Alpine, Ford Anglia, Mini, Austin Champ, Austin LD, Bedford CF. I think my dad had an incomprehensible taste in cars but if Austin had made a 2-stroke he would have been happy. Anyway, with a GasGas EC200 and a 1921 Ner-a-Car Model A in the shed, I am certainly infected with the premix fumes.

Pumpers deal with vibration well but they are lousy at airflow efficiency the way most are designed. You should graft the fuel capsule(float) of the pumper to the body of a Lectron. I built one like that.

I like your camera set up, for a good microphone, have a look at the røde directional microphone, good bit of gear. I'd be putting on a spring loaded chain tensioner, that uses a sprocket with bearing to suite the primary chain to clutch. As for a damper, for motor, what about a gas strut used for car bonnets, set up at around half way of strut ride.

with racing rc boats a lot of them use remote mounted needle valves with adjustable needles and 1/4 turn rapid adjust so they can be tweeked with a servo on the course if needed i dont know if this would help
